When Do You Take Down Your Holiday Decorations?

Right after New Year's. I am having family party on Jan 3...so Jan 4th or 5th I will put everything away. I put it all up late too...like around Dec 10th (about 2 weeks before Xmas). So I get about 4 weeks out of it and that's enough for me.

January 2 and 3-we should be able to do it all in two days. We are having a small NYE party so we left the tree up. Normally, since it is pretty much an "all the way dead tree" by the 30th or so, we would have taken it down. I am the only one that even touches the tree both going up and coming down. I have many fragile ornaments including glass icicles that break if you look at them too hard and they have to be wired onto the branches and "unwired" so much less yelling and tantrums occur if I do it myself. DH and kids are of the-"well, we got most of them off and thrown into the storage bins" school of undecorating.

I wouldn't be surprised. There is a neighborhood around here where you need approval from the HOA on what colors to paint the inside of your house. This is a very upscale, rich neighborhood.

What good is being uber-rich when you are not allowed even to paint youur house the way you want to?

From what I've heard, the richer the community, the more Stepford it is. And that's the way the residents want it to be.

Just took lights down today. I had been wanting to take photos with the lights and snow but its been a very green winter so it wasnt until this past week when we got a ton of snow that I was finally able to take the photos I wanted.

My Christmas tree is still up and my stockings are still hanging on the fireplace. This is the weekend everything comes down. Really. :teeth:

we are just taking down our real tree today.
its being chopped up as i type.
even this is a bit earlier than most years but we have a kitten and have not been able to let her in the family room in fear she will start knocking ornaments off.

It must be really, really dry.

My parents just did their real tree this past weekend. You know how when you put it up, it takes like 3 people cause its so heavy? Well one person could drag it out. Though they had to cut it up to get it out the door. The branches were so rigormortified they wouldnt flex at all..lol

Yikes. At least my tree is artificial so it still looks great! But, it's gotta go.

DW has decreed that one fake tree will permanently remain on display in the foyer. She had some Valentine's hearts and décor on it, but took those down yesterday. I saw some plastic Easter eggs with strings for hanging so I suppose they go up next. Not sure if she intends anything for St. Patrick's Day.

Our indoor decorations will probably come down weekend after next. We're just back from a cruise, which kept our time pretty much full until yesterday, and next weekend we're going to visit my Dad's widow. Then maybe we can take things down. Although we still turn the tree on occasionally.

I finally evicted the Christmas tree from my room 4 weeks ago. I still have a small tinsel one on top of my computer that I've missed, oops. Lights are still up on the window because why not.

I kept the garland on my porch because it looks so Wintery and festive. I don't light it, but my DH has had enough and asked that I take it down. I like to put up and take down my decorations, but I think if I don't remove it fast he will do it!

It was a mild weekend so I went outside to pull the candy canes out of my lawn. I ended up ripping part of my fingernail off while tugging on the first candy cane. That was the end of that! :rotfl:

I know!!! I have all the rest down and put away, but I had bought some pricey kissing balls from the VOAG holiday sale and because my DGD was part of that project, I did not want to take them down until I absolutely had to. So....I left the holiday garland to match. Well now I REALLY do not feel like doing it, but if I let it go much longer my DH will do it for me, and I will never hear the end of it!! LOL!!!!!! He would have had every bit down January 6

There are 2 houses in our neighbourhood that still have their lights tuned on every night and one of them appears to still have the tree up and going (visible through the front picture window).
