When Do You Take Down Your Holiday Decorations?

Do tell who this all-powerful "They" are that can dictate what goes on inside your house?

Well, we have a contract with the local company that performs all of our exterior landscaping services and installs and removes our seasonal and holiday decorations per the guidelines of our existing contract. The "They" involved in the interior doesn't dictate what goes on inside the house, but the contract we have concerning the cleaning, maintenance, decorating and seasonal aspects of our home does. My wife and I do the initial dictating with the terms of the contract and we have had no issues with any of the deadlines with either group in all the years we've used them.

Usually I take our inside Christmas things down yesterday or today but one of my sons and wife aren't flying home until tomorrow night so I will keep them up until then. :)

Interior decorations put away this morning by adult kids home from college :)

Cleaners arrived this afternoon to spruce the place up.

Will feel so good to come home from work today and have it all done.

At least 150 different HOA's belong to this organization. More than we have in Sacramento and we have 30% more people.

Community Associations are NOT HOA's. Membership is optional and they do not make "rules" for the neighbourhoods nor do they have any powers of enforcement. Please trust me when I say you don't know what you're talking about here.

Ok.

our tree will come down once we do Christmas at home on sunday. so it will be down by next Monday

Just curious and I know this is a little OT, but what happens if you just ignore the ridiculous demands of an HOA? HOA's are really not a "thing" here aside from possibly condo boards in multi-family complexes.

If they're in your HOA agreement they can fine you per the agreement and attach a lien on your property. If it's a CC&R the city can fine you.

Yep, the stricter HOAs can and have fined homeowners and put liens on their houses if they refused to pay. And some have such really ridiculous rules and regulations I'm surprised anyone would agree to live there. Don't wanna abide by the rules? Don't live there.

My community has a HOA, but they're pretty much laissez faire. As long as you don't paint your house pink with purple polka dots they leave you alone.

That's very early to take down your decorations, especially when you are sick. I decluttered/gave away all our holiday stuff last year when we moved, so we didn't have any to put up this year. Waiting for post holiday sales to buy new decorations that will fit into our new storage locker.
Hope you get well soon!

I plan on doing it today- finally feeling better. Tomorrow is my birthday and I like for everything to be put away before then. Congrats on your move and hope you found great sales for next year.

We always get everything down before New Year's Day. I got everything but the tree put away this morning. We usually do the tree in phases.

Took our stuff down yesterday and even though it's freezing here in North Texas, I almost feel like spring cleaning. Steam cleaned the carpets too. I'm ready to tackle 2016

It sounded more like the management of a strip shopping center/professional building when exterior and interior holiday decorations of individuals stores or offices must be taken down.

I HOPE it's not for a private home. I can see a HOA demanding removal of exterior décor by a certain date, but interior???!!!

Hopefully he will come back to answer your question.

I wouldn't be surprised. There is a neighborhood around here where you need approval from the HOA on what colors to paint the inside of your house. This is a very upscale, rich neighborhood.

What good is being uber-rich when you are not allowed even to paint youur house the way you want to?

Another Canadian here, Ontario. I also agree that homeowners associations, other than condo boards, are virtually non-existent. Neighbourhood associations have no control over anything on your private property and you pay no dues to them unless they have a community pool or something like that.

We usually take ours down the first weekend after new years. We have out of town family so we usually celebrate our last Xmas on New Years Eve. Once everyone is back home, its usually back to work, hence the weekend after New Years. :)

I try to take down the front porch decorations at that time too, but depending on snow etc.. I sometimes have to settle for just unplugging the lights until its safe to get the lights down :)

I took mine down on 12/26. I don't know why...I just want it done and I had the momentum that day.

We take our most decorations down, after Epiphany. I remove the ornaments from the trees and pack the outdoor nativity. DH does the rest with help from our yardman. I leave the candles in the windows, until Candlemas has passed.
