When Do You Take Down Your Holiday Decorations?

That woman was usually fairly pleasant, so her response was kind of a shock. I'm not sure what her situation really was; she lived alone and maybe she had nowhere to go, or no one to visit her. Christmas can be depressing for some people.
Christmas time is a bad time for so many. I hope she feels a little better soon. And maybe she will talk to you.

Right after New Years Day. Growing up we would wait until after Jan 6 . DH did it much earlier so New Years is our compromise.

We still have a Christmas celebration during the week with SIL .

2nd January. It's bad luck to leave the decorations up any longer.

Until the Epiphany on January 6. While the RETAIL Christmas season is over, the HISTORIC Christmas season didn't even start until yesterday, Christmas Day and ends after the 12 Days of Christmas on January 6, the Epiphany. So ours will no longer be turned on after January 6, and weather and time permitting, will come down on the 7th or 8th.

On the other end, Christmas decorations should not be put up more than about 2 weeks before Christmas, and NEVER on the after Thanksgiving.

We still have 2 more Christmas celebrations ahead of us NEXT weekend due to travel and work considerations of family members.

Usual xmas night or the day after. This year we have one more celebration left, so not until that is over.

OP said this was 30 years ago, and the woman was around 70 then. She's probably not feeling anything now, if she starts talking...RUN;)

Nope, ours go up November 1st. We were late this year because I had emergency surgery with complications but they stay up through all of January so we still have plenty of time to enjoy them. Our outside lights will be up...and on... through Valentine's Day. Most of our neighborhood keeps the outside lights on until it at least then. If the weather's bad they'll stay up longer & we'll turn them on for St. Patrick's Day, too.

I usually take our down the weekend after Jan. 6 but this year I will be taking them down Jan 3 because we have a Disney trip planned for mid January and I need to have things back in the attic and our suitcases out of the attic!

The tree will come down on whatever day the Boy Scouts decree (a.k.a. - the day before they pick them up).

The lights will be turned off after Jan. 6th, and actually taken down on whatever day is good weather for it.

The other things will come down (and get packed up) a box at a time, whenever the mood strikes me. I tend to like to put things up early and take them down fairly quickly, but I got a late start this year, so I may leave them a little longer.

Outdoor decorations will come down next weekend; indoor will start slowly coming down this week. :(

We don't do lights so no problem there. I leave the wreath on the door until the falling needles on the floor drive me crazy, usually February. I have a nativity set that stays on an end table year round. I also have a small artificial tree that stays on the end table year round.

BUT the tree is a "holiday" tree and has decorations for ALL the years holidays.

Most years, everything starts coming down on January 1st. Some years, we leave everything out until 1/6, but that's normally the date by which I try to have everything put away.

Our DD's bday is 1/5, so, some years, I try to have all the Christmas décor put away by her bday, while, other years, we've left everything out specifically for her bday, since her bday is the 11th day of Christmas.

This. We follow the Christian calendar and take down our decorations after the Christmas Season ends and Ordinary Time begins. So this year we'll take them down on January 10.

We take down our non religion decorations on January 1st. Our nativity stays up through the epiphany.

When I get up and decide I don't want them up. I will keep them up this week though because I'm having people over New year's eve and the lit up Frosty is a good marker for people to find my house.

The outside lights are being packed up as I type this. I would of de-Christmas'd today but it was still warm enough out to be outside and help build a basketball hoop. Tomorrow the boxes will come, down from the attic and the tree will visit it's cousins in the woods behind out home.

We took our tree down a few minutes ago. That being said - we get our tree (go and cut it down) day after Thanksgiving - so we have had it up and decorated almost a full month.

Probably tomorrow or Monday or when I feel better, blessed with a cold this Christmas.
