I have lost 20 lbs and I am trying to figure this out. Things still fit (mostly t-shirt /strechy materials) but they are getting baggy. I am afraid if I buy some thigns now I will not lose anymore. KWIM

So do you wait until you hit your goal weight or do you do but a few things every so many pounds?

I like to reward myself with a few things. After losing that much weight you should be proud of yourself so go buy something nice for yourself.

Good Luck!! I am on a mission to lose 20 more pounds by 11/30- my next disney trip!!

I started to buy a few new clothes after I lost about 15 lbs or so. I actually bought a few things that were a little tight to start with. I'm working on losing a total of 80lbs or so, and I have lost about 50 so far. I work full time as a physician, so it just wouldn't have worked to continue to wear clothing that was too loose. I have been skipping sizes. I started at about size 20 or so, and wore a size extra large lab coat (which was too tight). After losing 30lbs, I was able to fit into a size medium lab coat. The first new clothes I bought were size 14.

I actually wore my size 14 clothes a little too long, and I skipped size 12 entirely. Earlier this week, I tried to wear a pair of size 14 pants, and realized that they were so loose that I was in danger of losing them. They were without belt loops. Luckily, I gave them a tug before leaving the house--they came off entirely without unzipping. So, all the size 14's are bagged for Goodwill. I haven't lost as much on top, so, my large tops are still wearable for the time being.

Buying the smaller clothes a little tight gives me an incentive to continue losing weight and encouragement when I notice that what I once could barely zip is now loose.

I buy 1 pair of jeans for every size I go down. It means I only have one pair of pants to wear, luckily I work at a place where jeans are the dress code.

As for shirts I wore them until they were just way TOO big. Then I went out and bought some (it was my birthday present to myself). Luckily shirts wear a lot longer than bottoms.

Oh boy shopping! Good for you on losing size! Be brave and daring. Go ahead and buy something!
:dance3:
One thing though, throw out something too!

I actually like the idea given to buy something just a bit snug to keep the loss going in the right direction. Smart.

Keep on keepin' on. You are doing it!

I've been buying myself a few new pieces as I go along, usually new pants. Skirts I can fudge for awhile, but the pants started looking pretty droopy and bad rather quickly. I feel 100% better about myself when I'm wearing smaller sizes. I also use it as an opportunity to get rid of the too big stuff. I like to get rid of it right away, either on ebay or goodwill. I don't want to have them sitting around the house at all. I want no excuses to put that weight back on at all!

As a general rule every 10 pounds equals a clothing size, so I would definitely buy a few pieces now that you have lost 20 pounds. If you don't want to put a lot of money into a new wardrobe yet try shopping at the thrift stores, you can get cheap in between clothes that will tide you over until you get where you want to be.

I am lucky, I guess... or unlucky...

I put on all 70 of my lbs in the last 5 years (gulp). So, as I lose, I just move down my closet. I started at a tight 18 (wearing all stretchy things because I refused to buy many clothes in that size), and I am now a tight-ish 12, can fit in the 14s but they are loose. I tend to buy things in classic styles and colors so most of it is still wearable. My coworkers keep asking me if my clothes are new.
