When do you restart or when did you start 2005 School year?

Here in Wisconsin school starts for both my daughters on 8/30/05. Younger daughter's last day for the school year is June 1st, older daughter has exams June 1st and 2nd and then she is done.

Schools here started Aug. 15 and get out mid May. We start Christmas break Dec. 19.

Our schools started on August 4th. They will be out for Labor Day, 3 day weekend the 1st weekend of October (yeah, Food and Wine, here we come!), a 4 day weekend for Veteran's Day (if we don't have to miss anything for hurricanes, then they will only have a 3 day weekend. Wed, Thurs, Friday and the weekend for Thanksgiving, and if the hurricane gods are good to us, they will be out on the school for Christmas the end of the day Dec 16th and not go back until Jan 4th... we have 2 hurricane days built into the 1st part of that break, and 2 into the last. We have a 3 day weekend for MLK day and a 3 day weekend for President's day. We have a 4 day weekend the end of the 3rd 9 weeks in March, a week for Spring Break and are out for the year mid day on the 24th of May. :cool1:

Elementary school in our district started July 20 - Middle and High school started last week. We also go year round- 9 weeks on 3 weeks off and the last day this term is @June1

Here is the school schedule for my district:

Wow! I was really interested in the CO and MI schedules of nine weeks on and then XX weeks off, etc. with a year-round school schedule. How does that work for day care? If all the schools do that, I assume the day cares work that way too? I've always advocated for year-round school and now that I know how some do it I can look at it a little closer.

On Cape Cod, everyone starts a little different but everyone starts after Labor day (because of the tourist industry). We start on Tuesday, 9/6 and get out June 23 if there are no snow days. Three days off at Thanksgiving, one week at Christmas, one week in February and one week in April -- boy do I wish they would at least just make it one week in March and let us out a week earlier. This year all the schools got out June 30th because of all the snow we had. It would've gone longer but union contracts didn't allow for any extension beyond that :cool1:

Our (Colorado) off track care is broken up but basically runs from 7:ooish to 5:30..You can pay for 7-9(before school)9-4(during school but when you are off track)and/or4-5:30(after school) it is all done at the school. They have a lot of field trips, etc for the off trackers. It makes child care easier because you have year round care....the only exceptions to this are 2 weeks in summer and 2 weeks at Christmas.

Well, I recently dropped out of high school, only because of the fact that I was so behind from being in the hospital last year due to depression issues, not to mention the fact that I had to deal with being terrorised for being "different" (for example, dressing in black, baggy clothing, and having odd-colored hair, lol) and my choice of friends, so I'm going to the college to get my diploma that way. Everybody else started school at the college last Mondy (Sept. 22nd or 23rd), but I have to start late because I need a waiver before I can even be allowed on campus. So, now I'm just waiting for the call from my old principal telling me that he sent them the form, and then I can go register. My first semester ends Dec. 13th, but I'm not sure when we go back for second.

I'm a teacher here in England, I teach Year 2 (6 & 7 year olds), I'm always interested to read about US school systems, so I thought I'd tell you about the system here in England. School holidays vary slightly across the various counties, but are mostly the same. Most primary schools (5-11 years) start around 8.45 am and finish at 3.30pm with a morning and afternoon break and a lunch break. School starts on 5th September for 6 weeks, then we have a week off in October, then 6 more weeks, 2 weeks off for Christmas, 6 more weeks, a week off in February, 6 more weeks, 2 weeks off for easter, 6 more weeks, then a week off in May, 6 more weeks then a 6 week long sumer holiday July/August. The 6 week blocks can vary, sometimes it could be 7 and 5 or 8 and 4, but we always get the same amount of holidays. We do not have snow days, if the school is shut for snow it does not carry on at the end of term for extra days.

We home school too! My 2nd grader tells everyone her summer break never ends :rotfl: but that doesn't speak well of my teaching!! We LOVE that we can go to WDW for 2 weeks in October and don't have to pull her from school. I have been searching to tie Disney into my lesson plans for those 2 weeks, but I started the school year 2 weeks early just in case we want to do nothing but FUN while we're there!! (I also have one in Pre-K and a baby, and without our "school room" we might not be able to get much done anyway. We'll be at POP and I hear the rooms are small)

Here in Central Indiana, schools started last week (DD'S school on 8-16). We get a fall break consisting of at least 2 days off either the 3rd or 4th week of October (my DD has off 3 1/2 days and I'll pull her out of school for the remaining 1 1/2 days that week to go to WDW). We have 2 weeks at Christmas time, 1st week of April for spring break (sometimes it corresponds with Easter Sunday, mostly not). The last day of school is the 1st Friday of June.

We started August 19, have 2 weeks off at Christmas, spring break last week in March and out for the summer on May 25. Other days thrown in here and there and end of school depends on snow days missed.

My daughter starts first grade on Sept 6th - just got the letter yesterday informing us of her teacher. School ends in late june - don't know the exact date, don't have the calender in front of me now.
