Our family of 4 will be at the world in December. When do you buy park tickets? Since we are staying off grounds, is it necessary to purchase tickets before we get there? Is there any benefit? TIA!! :)

There are reputable discount ticketers, for example Undercover Tourist (who I've personally used) and Maple Leaf. If you choose to order from them, then you should probably go ahead and do so.

We ordered ours online so we could do the Fast Pass+ in advance of the trip. We ordered annual passes though and are DVC emmebers, so I was fairly confident we would be able to have access to it (I don't think it's available to everyone yet).

Otherwise, I wouldn't get the tickets in advance unless some sort of discount is involved because then you don't have to worry about losing them while traveling and it's easy enough to get them at the hotel if you're staying on property.

You can buy them at a discount at AAA, too - if you are a member - and get the Diamond Parking pass.

Or you can just buy them at the parks

I like Undercover Tourist, especially with the subscription to the Mousesaver's Newsletter. There is a link in the letter that takes you to the page with a nice discount. This year I got a $25 off of gate price. Sometimes they have "additional day free" deals. I think they have one now.

You would need to buy far enough in advance to have them mailed to you unless you want to pick them up locally and they have details on where you can do that on the site.
