ok - I am getting antsy! Pool season is approaching. :sunny: When do you open your pool? I live in Maryland & this will be our 1st season....we had our pool built last fall and haven't used it yet. Can't wait! :goodvibes

Well, we usually wait until it gets really warm, but we bought a propane heater last year so I'm hoping to have it open for Memorial Day Weekend, but it all depends on the twirly bird thingys that fall from the trees . . . :teeth:

We live in Minnesota, so when we open depends entirely on the weather. The earliest its been open is April 19, but then it snowed the next week. We usually open sometime in the middle two weeks of May.

We're in TN - will open within the next week or so (have a heat pump, as long as outside temps stay above 45 it will heat).

I know that feeling!! I was just gazing out the window and noticing that most of the snow has melted around our pool area and I can see the pool cover!

We had our pool put in last August and only got a few weeks use out of it before we had to close it. I can't wait to get an entire summer out of it!! :goodvibes We probably will open it the first or second week in June. The pool company will send us a day and time for when they'll come out and get everything hooked up and running. It looks way too complicated for us to do and I want to be sure it's done right.

We also have a lot of landscaping to do in and around the pool, and we want to have all of that completed before the pool opens.

I live in Ontario, Canada and I open mine the first weekend in May - without fail!

I'm actually surprised at the responses. People are actually answering the question - I was expected all kinds of snarky comments, like "we never close ours" we live in the South. etc........

Well played

We had an above ground pool and always opened it memorial day weekend (in SE PA). Usually didn't get much use out of it though until at least mid June unless it was unusually warm during that time period. We didn't have a heater or solar cover, and it didn't stay warm enough at night so the pool lost a lot of heat. It was nice to give the pool a week or two before we were ready to use it heavily though because it gave the chemicals time to get balanced.

Massachusetts - Typically the weekend before Memorial Day. Probably earlier this year for some unplanned maintenance (Mystery leak just after closing).

as soon as the night time temps go over 70 degrees we will be swimming.
The pool is most comforatble between 82-86 for swimming/lounging. but we will jump in quickly for a refresher when its in the high 70's. :goodvibes

we can't wait either. We will be swimming in April. :goodvibes

We open ours at the same time. And we can't usually use it until mid June, even with a solar heater. That heater was a great investment though. All summer long the pool stays at a constant 80 degrees.

We open ours early so that we can take that time to settle everything out with the chemicals. Lately when we open it we have had no problem with algea or cloudiness. But there is a mystery leak this year. (Glad to see we aren't the only ones.)

We usually open around early to mid-May. Then we start actually using it around early to mid-June. This year we are thinking of pricing a heater for it- since it seems like it would be a good investment.

For years we opened it Memorial weekend but we didnt get to swim till June. Now my husband refuses to open it till first week of June. I wish we lived where it was warmer longer! :sunny:

Not being "snarky", but I've never even heard of closing a pool! Here in California, it's gets too cold to use it for a few months, but we don't drain it or close it.

I have no idea when our pool will open since it's a neighborhood pool. I can't wait though! This will be my first summer here with a pool, I'm soooo excited. I'm hoping that since it's already starting to get warm here that it will be open by May. *fingers crossed*

Anywhere from mid-May until the end of May. Depends on how the weather is.

We usually open end of April/beginning of May...then we put the solar blanket on it till Memorial Day weekend. :sunny:

Snarky here! We swam in it last weekend. We do have to heat it a little but the weather was pretty nice, cool but sunny. We live south of Houston and our pool runs year round. From about October till April if you want to swim you have to heat it but it will heat up in just a few hours. The downside is the gas bill gets pretty big and since we never shut it down we pay a lot more for chemicals and electricity to keep it running all the time. In our area you really never can drain your pool because we have so much groundwater that if you did drain it the ground would heave it up and ruin the pool.

we never close ours... we live in the south.

:rotfl2: :teeth:

sorry. but i couldn't resist. ;)

now while we don't actually "close" the pool like those in the north have to do, it has been purty gosh darned cold in that water and we haven't gotten a chance to really spend any time swimming in it. We just had our pool finished in October.

OK.. with that said. I have been as antsy as everyone else. Yesterday the water temp crept up to 68 degrees and I simple couldn't resist any longer.

YES I got to go swimming

I kept yelling at the rest of my family "come on in.. the water's freezing!"

They just gave me one of these looks :sad2:
