When do you go with your digital camera and when regular??

I've just gotten a digital camera for Christmas and I'm pretty comfortable with it. It seems that people on the boards sometimes use digital and sometimes go regular. Which one do you choose and why? Also, what is the safest level to put it at for good pictures that will not likely be blown up so I'll be able to put more pictures on my memory card? Thanks!

I never use my regular camera anymore. I use my digital for everything and they DL the pictures to Shutterfly.com where I have them printed. I love my digital!

I use digital 95% of the time; DW uses 35mm 95% of the time - we have the best of both worlds! Of course, my pics are better;) .

Thanks for the info! Bojo, can you give me an example of when you switch to 35mm in that 5%?

We just got our digital camera and haven't taken it to Disney yet, but we have used it for a few other things already.

The digital has a bunch of advantages over the 35mm.

1. Its small enough to carry in my pocket. Our 35mm is big and bulky and really a pain to carry around your neck for any period of time. It also came with a nice case that loops through my belt and holds the camera, batteries and memory cards.

2. The 256MB memory card I bought holds 260 high resolution photos, more than enough for virtually anywhere I'm likely to go. Consider that is equivalent to almost 11 rolls of 24-exposure film. So not only is the camera easier to carry, I don't have to carry a bunch of film too.

3. I can delete photos that don't come out well immediately and save space for the good ones. I only need to print good photos so no money is wasted printing pics that aren't good.

4. I can go to many stores and print my photos by popping the memory card into the kiosk and following a simple process. I've already printed photos at my local Target for $.27/print. That is as cheap (or cheaper) than processing 35mm film and, as noted, I only print the photos that I want rather than having to pay for and print every picture I took, good or bad. If I'm on vacation and fill up the memory card, I can find a store, print out the photos and/or burn them to a CD and clear the memory card to shoot more.

So what's the downside? I have noticed that red-eye is a significant problem. That never occurs with my 35mm because the flash is not near the lens. On the other hand, it only took me about 10 minutes to edit out the red-eye on a batch of about 50 photos I took last week so it is a bit annoying but not enough reason to switch back to film.

The only time I would probably choose the 35mm is if I was going to be taking action shots - sports, dance, etc. There is a momentary shutter lag on the digital that doesn't exist on the film camera.

I went digital in 1997 and I haven't used my non-digi since. It sits here waiting to be used. I have a ton of cool lenses but man the instant gratification of seeing photos... :D

I use Costco.com to print photos....

I haven't used my 35mm since I got my digital for Christmas. The only problem I have is that I tend to take more pictures with my digital than I ever did with my film camera (and I take a lot of pictures anyway). That includes pictures I delete. I started out not printing many of my digital pictures; I would burn them to a CD and print a few at home. But I'm the type that likes to see pictures in an album, so now I'm doing double duty. I burn them onto cd, and I download them to either Target or WalMart to be printed. I LOVE my digital, although it isn't exactly small and compact (it's a Canon PowerShot G5). But my husband picked it out and bought it for me, so I won't complain, because I do really like it. Have fun learning to use yours, you'll love it too!

I am another Shutterfly fan. We usually use our digital for everything. I just have them print the ones I want. I also like having prints printed and mailed directly to grandparents. I am bad about letting copies sit around forever before getting them in the mail. This way, I know they are on their way.

We took both to WDW this April and ended up using the digital the whole time.

I thought there might be times when we'd be afraid of getting the digital damp or something....but it was fine.

Being able to see you photos on the spot is priceless especially at a place like WDW. Image how many people get home only to learn their photos didn't come out...we checked all the important ones on the spot and retook a few we weren't happy with.

And now we can edit them.

Digital is the way to go.
