I have awhile to go until our trip, but I already made countdowns for our family, the other family we are traveling with, and my niece. The kids had been asking me when I was going to make them and I got in the mood to get it done so I have put them away for now. My question is....for those of you who do an actual paper countdown of some sort whether you made it or mark off days on the calendar, when do you begin the final countdown?
We have lots of tickers online, and I am sending cards to my neice once in awhile with the number of days left. Last trip I made a similiar countdown using scrapbook paper and post it notes and the kids would take turns taking off a post it each day. I had random questions and stickers and reminders with in the stack and they LOVED this and requested I made new ones for this trip.
The kicker is we went 3 years ago and I can't for the life of me remember when we started our countdown back then. :scared: can you guys offer me some suggestions and experiences? I don't want the count down too long or too short. Thanks in advance! :flower3:

My best friend and i are going in July... we leave July 6th... and we made a paper chain over christmas... it started January 1st... a one hundred and eighty nine day countdown... it hangs in my room all the way from the door aroudn the whole room and back to the door... it is amazing...

we also printed countdown calenders that are in our lockers at school.

I put up a picture of Mickey with the days until.... poster on the fridge. My dh cannot believe I take the time to do this!

I printed out calendar pages from the design board and I am going to give it to my little niece next Sat. and I have the days counted on the months for her...so it will be about 164 days until we go:)

We made a chain for my DD4. It started at 56 chains and we are now down to 16:woohoo: .

It didn't seem to get any smaller for ages now I can't believe it is so soon!!

DD4 loves to take a link off each evening and it helps her to know how many sleeps to go!!

I would LOVE to start the countdown now, but I am thinking the kids would get tired of it if I begin it too early. I wanted to start it at 100 days but I asked the kids when they would like to start it and they said at 50 days or so. That is probably reasonable. Meanwhile I am still counting down with my tickers and on my home calendar!!!:woohoo:132 days to go!

Another question - How do you get the countdowns on your profiles?

Click one of the countdowns you like. It will take you to its website. You customize it and it will give you some html code or a link to a image that you paste into your signature.

You can try it out in the test forum.

I just made one

This was our experience. If I started it too early, the kids weren't interested. They think I'm insane about Disney anyway. :confused3 So when we used to do the paper chain countdowns, we started around 45-50 days in advance.

Have fun building the excitement!!!:wizard:

We started out at 150 days. Its on our fridge and every day the kids take turns changing it. They look forward to the numbers getting lower...well DH and I do too..lol! And then I have my own personal countdown of when I have to start packing and getting stuff together...whew that's the real work!:scared1:

I have one in my signature. Its 61 days to go. I think it'll get easier to wait once Easter is here cause its 4 weeks after Easter that we fly down.

My kids are young, so I don't want to start too early.
They just won't "get it".
So, I'm going to start the countdown at 30 days out.

I think it depends on the age and previous Disney experience of the child. For our dd4 we are giving her 25 days notice before her first trip. Next time (when she's 6, 7, or 8), we might give her 40-50 days. My logic this time is that 25 days is what we use for a Christmas advent calendar, and that seems about right. Plus, we're doing a letter-a-day thing with our calendar. Each day she'll uncover a new character (A for Aurora, B for Bambi, etc.) and that's the story we'll read that night. The letter of the day will also help direct our online "research" for the day. For ex, on "R" day, we'll look at online pics of Riverside.
Any way you do it, though, a countdown is fun!

Cute idea! Sounds like a winner.
