When do the children go back to school after Christmas?

Hi

I'm so excited cos we've just booked to be at WDW from December 28 2006 to January 6 2007. I'm expecting BIG crowds but been lots of times before so mainly there just to soak up the atmosphere and see the decorations.
My question is when do the children go back to school after Christmas? I'm guessing this will vary from state to state. Hoping we'll get a couple of quieter days near the end of our vacation before the marathon crowds move in.

In the USA, schools are controlled by individual cities and towns. I posted to one of your countrymen yesterday that I live on a small island, 60,000 people, 3 school districts. My county has 25 school districts, and my county is one of the smaller counties in the state of New Jersey. New Jersey alone has over 600 school districts, and New Jersey is just one of 50 states. So as you can see, there's no single answer to your question.

As a generalization, though, you can expect American kids to be back in schools as early as January 2. Not too many schools stay closed the week AFTER New Year's.

Colleges and universities each make their own rules. They often don't reopen until the middle of January or so.

I was going to say you can check out crowd level predictions at http://www.touringplans.com/BestDays.htm, but I just checked and as of now it only goes through December 31, 2006. You can check back there in a few months, perhaps.

I would expect closer to the end of your stay it should be quieter. It seems the crowds start to clear out the 2nd or 3rd, from my experience.

It is a beautiful time at the parks and the resorts as well.

If you have time while the parks are crowded, visit the resorts. They are not to be missed. We did this during my DDs break this year as we did not want to be in the parks. One day we did the MK resorts, and another we did the EPCOT resorts and AKL.

We are in GA and go back the 4th or 5th. It really varies state to state. The first week of January used to be slow, it is much busier now due to a lot of school districts taking more days off after New Years.

Sarasota County in FL goes back January 3. We were there that first week in Jan a few years back. It got quiet by about the third, but not as quiet as you would expect. We encountered many, many Europeans and South Africans; maybe they are off that whole week?

Georgia - we go back Jan 8th just like this last year. Was there 2-8th and it was crowded. Note that the Disney Half & Full Marathon & 5k (30,000+ runners and families) is January 5-7th.
