When do schools go back in september?

Wondered if anyone could clarify (broadly) when school goes back - beginning or end September ?

It varies widely. My kids school starts Aug. 17th. The schools in So. Ca. go back any time between the 2nd. week of Aug. through the 2nd. week of Sept.
