When do rooms get assigned?

I want to send a fax to the AKL requesting a specific room. When should I send the fax to the hotel, that would give me the best chance of getting my request filled?

I have always been told they do not get assigned until the day of check-in. We have only once requested a specific room, but have always sent a fax about two or three days before arrival to indicate our preference for a specific building.

From what I have been told by several other DISers most resorts dont even look at the faxes. If you want a certain room request, call your TA or Disney (however u booked) and have them put a note on your reservation.

The best thing to do is add your requests to your reservation. They do pre block rooms several days before your arrival. But until you are standing at the desk checking in it could be changed.

No need to fax.

We have done both...put it in with our reservation and faxed it. Last year, they actually had the fax at the desk that my DH had sent to them when we arrived.

Thanks for the info. I know its a longshot, but it cant hurt to send a fax

When I changed an ADR this week the CM asked me if I knew what room we were going to be in yet. I said no, I didn't know that was possible and she transferred me to reservations. The CM there said I had to call the resort directly and would be able to find out what room we were assigned 5 days before our arrival. This will be our first trip so I have no idea if she was right but they both seemed to think that is how it worked. I guess we'll see!

I think that trying to accomidate room types is hard enough never mind room numbers. It would seem that the room number would be tough to do. you would have to either go during value season where occupancy is lower or be lucky and hit the exact date someone before is leaving.

I do thing the computer can assign room numbers prior, but not accommodate.

I think you were given wrong information. Last year when we checked into POP our rooms where not ready. Even though they had assigned our rooms in the computer system, they would not give us our room location. They told us what building we would be in, but we had to wait until around 4:00pm to call and find out what room we were in.

Most resorts, will see your reservation about 9 days before you arrive, sending a fax within that timeframe is helpful, we do look at faxes and will try to accommodate you based on availability, just dont forget they are requests and sometimes cannot be fulfilled to 100%.

. . . Most resorts, will see your reservation about 9 days before you arrive . . .

1) I have never seen individual ressies (names) more than 5-days in advance.
2) One can see numbers of ressies several weeks in advance for ANY resort.
3) You must have a different system, maybe?

I have to ask..why would Disney Dining ask if you knew what room you were in yet? Just curious.
As for when rooms are assigned..to the best of my knowledge, they are blocked out about 3-5 days in advance. But, nothing is etched in stone at that point. If you're standing at the front desk, checking in, and you find that the room you have been given is not acceptable, many times you can get a different room. Until you get that key card in your hand, it isn't your room. Way too many variables to be able to say, with any certainty, that a particular room is yours until you have checked in.

You know what? Good question! Now that I think about it, it kind of creeps me out. Why WOULD Disney Dining want to know our room number??????
