When do my banked points expire and one more question

Ok so when we bought into AKL back in June, we got 100 developer points. We are using 96 of those points for a week in a SSR studio, and since you can't transfer or bank developer points the other 4 are going to expire.

But all 100 of 2008's points are being banked to use later on, I just can't figure out when I need to use them by.

My use year is April and I think that may be throwing me off...

So when will 2008's points expire if I bank them?


Also, if I bank 2008 into 2009, can I then back 2008 and 2009 together into a trip in early 2010??
Like say March for example purposes?

Your UY runs April 1 - March 31 of a given year. So, here's the way it works:

2008 Points - Deposited on 4/1/08 and are good for trips 4/1/08 - 3/31/09
2009 Points - Deposited on 4/1/09 and are good for trips 4/1/09 - 3/31/10
2010 Points - Deposited on 4/1/10 and are good for trips 4/1/10 - 3/31/11

Anytime you bank, you are placing this year's points into the next UY. Any time you borrow, you bringing points from next UY into this UY. Banked or borrowed points can't be returned to their original UY and will expire at the end of the UY they are banked/borrowed into.

So for you, your 2008 points will be banked into 2009. That means you can begin using them on 4/1/09, and they have to be used by 3/31/10. Since these are banked, they cannot be banked again.

For a March 2010 trip, you won't need to bank, as long as you complete the trip by 3/31. Your 2009 points (and banked 2008 points) are good from 4/1/09 - 3/31/2010. If you decide to travel in April 2010, you'll need to bank your 2009 points, so you can use your 2009 and 2010 points, but you'll still have to use the 100 banked 2008 points by 3/31/2010, or they will expire.

just be aware that booking a reservation that close to the end of your UY is risky.

if you have to cancel the reservation (even a month or 2 in advance) you would be past the banking window for your 2009 pts and your 2008 pts would be close to expiration also, so you would risk losing 2 years worth of pts...

Sorry to be confusing. I would want to use all of the banked points and borrow my 2009 points to book a trip before my UY would start.

yes.

yes. (you can still book a reservation 11 months in advance at your home resort obviously...so if you banked your 2008 pts, you can book a reservation with them and your 2009 UY pts, in early july 2009 starting right now.)

you can combine your banked 2008 pts with your 2009 pts to book a reservation in your 2009 UY (april 1, 2009 through march 31, 2010). if you don't use up all of your pts to book the reservation, make sure MS uses up the banked 2008 pts first.

UY has nothing to do with when you can book a reservation. nothing at all.

I'm not exactly sure of your question but I think you are asking about taking a 2009 trip. In 2009, between 4/1/09-3/31/10 you could use your banked points and your current points for a trip. If that's not enough points, you could also borrow from your 2010 allotment. The banked and borrowed points could not be moved again if you cancel. The current year points (2009), if you cancel 31 days or more from check-in and are within your banking dates, could be banked in 2010.

Chalee94 - Thanks so much for your help. I'm hoping to book HHI at 7 months out again for the first week of June. We had a great time in June on our first HHI trip and would like to go again. I will call in Nov and use my banked points and borrow 2009 points. This is the first time I banked points.

yep, definitely call in nov to book a june trip. just verify with MS that they used banked pts first (and double verify it on the website) and you're good to go.

(minor nitpick BTW, but for your april UY, a reservation made for june 2009 is in the 2009 UY, so you would not technically be "borrowing" pts.

it's common to think of pts being "deposited" on april 1st of every year, but that's not exactly accurate - and i'm not trying to give pam a hard time, i probably use the same language sometimes. go look on the member website and your 2009 UY pts are already there and ready to book at your home resort. if you call in november of 2008 and decided you wanted to stay longer on that june 2009 trip, you could borrow from your 2010 UY to complete the reservation.)

Banked points expire at the end of the use year you banked them to.

IE your use year is March. you bank this years points. They will expire at the end of Feb 2010.
