When do most schools return from their winter break?

We are planning a January 5-10 trip and are concerned about excessive crowds due to winter school break. Our child's school in Illinois resumes their schedule on January 3. What about the rest of you?

Northern VA returns Jan 3. I think you'll find that is the date in most locations.

Those were our trip dates a few years ago and the crowds were fine. They shrunk each day we were there.
