When do Disney assign rooms

Hi Guys, a week today myself and my gf will be sat on our flight over to orlando we will be staying over at Old key west and would like to get a room request over to them and am hoping somebody will be able to point me in the direction of the best place to email/phone for this and also does anyone know when disney assigns your room? or is it done on the day of check in.??

Disney now tend to ignore room request by phone or e-mail. best bet would be asking for your request at check in before your given the room as usaly they give you the first room ready,if you have somewhere you want ask as soon as you get to the desk "have you got any rooms in ...." they will try there hardest to accommodate you

How and where do I do this? ive never seen this option before

I've read on other threads that online check ins are best suited to people who don't mind what room they get
I phoned our hotel(YC) to request an area and she told me they don't take room requests until 10 days out, and to call back then.

They did mine last August but was totally ignored when it came to it. I won't bother in future just ask at checkin for where I want to be.

we called last time about a week out from our hols and they took the request and we did get the area we wanted. We don't normally do this but it was for a celebration so thought we'd ask. Normally we just ask at check in and have always got our request as well. BUT, we don't normally go when its busy so have no idea if it would have been a problem at peak times. We always have a 2nd choice as back up

When we stayed at POFQ we were allocated a room on the absolute outskirts of the resort. Not intentionally but I broke down into tears our flight was delayed meaning we'd arrived a day late, we had missed our first morning lilo and stitch breakfast - I was just shattered and as chief booker and organiser I felt I had failed the family.

The CM was fantastic and gave us a central room
right by the boat stop (fantastic on the hot days as we could wait in the aircon room till the boat arrived) we had a stunning view of the river which I did not find out till after we were home people pay more for.

As others have said Disney pretty much do their best to help you when you arrive, if it is available and not taken you will be ok. On arrival at OKW the following year we asked for rooms near turtle pond tennis courts so DH and DS could play and they obliged fantastically.

Two times we have stayed onsite I did online check in with a preference. Think I also called and added it to the reservation.

Got what I wanted both times.

Were 'reasonable' requests though eg at OKW asked for turtle pond area upper floor not a specific room/block.

When i called I gave them 5 different buildings so fingers crossed we'll end up in atleast 1 of them

The online check in requests work better as they are tick boxes and the computer sees them and as I understand it free form requests have to be looked for by a CM and again my understanding is that when they upgraded the software they went to automatic allocation as much as possible.
