When someone sells back directly to Disney, I've heard they pay around $55 a point. Does anyone know if that varies if the contract is stripped?

Could you qualify this a little more? Do you mean the first right of refusal during a resale? When you contact Disney?

Member Accounting should be able to direct you to the official answer. Please keep us posted. :)

Have fun!

I'm thinking if you just skip trying to sell resale and sell directly back to Disney (no ROFR).

I just tried to call Member Administration to ask the question, and they only have a mailbox, and only send that type of info by mail. So...I requested the info, but if anyone knows the answer, please post it. Otherwise, I'll post as soon as I receive it.

if you want Disney to buy it, why are you worried about ROFR????? By the way, the average ROFR price seems to be almost $30 higher than $55 per point......

I'm not worried about ROFR. Sorry if that wasn't clear; I was just answering Mickbee's question when I mentioned ROFR.

I am just curious if Disney adjusts what they will pay for a contract when you offer to sell it back to them depending on the status of the following year's points.

I doubt they would care if they are getting the points at that price. Unless you really need the money in a hurry why not go through a resale broker. You would end up with more that way unless of course you are trying to sell a VB or HH contract and then maybe the shorter time to get it done would be worth it. I wonder if they pay differently for different resorts.

We had a contract ROFRd a few months ago. They paid us the price the buyer offered - which was $83 per point iirc. I don't think they buy back contracts separately, just ROFR on existing offers. Whatever price and terms are already in the signed offer are what they abide by with their purchase.

People on these boards have reported being told they could sell directly to Disney but it is at $53 or $55 a point instead of what they might get going through a resale broker. Some as considering selling because of the non smoking policy and just don't want to wait for the whole resale, ROFR process. I guess if you bought in at the original prices or in the low 60s per point it would be okay. If a contract is stripped it might also sit on the market quite awhile since there are those out there that aren't.

To OP = since HH is listed at between $66-71 on the TSS site I think you would be just as well off at $55 from DIsney depending on who pays closing etc. Good luck and let us know how you make out once they get in touch with you.

While it has been reported that Disney has offered to buy certain contracts, it should be clear that this is not the norm. In fact, in the only case that I read about, DVC contacted the seller and offered to purchase the points.

If it were me, I would put the whole idea to bed. If in the unlikely event Disney actually would buy your contract skipping ROFR, the price would be far too low. :smokin:

The only case I read about was indeed $55/point. However, that offer was for a BCV contract. :smokin:

I think that is more of a distress type of resale. I would check out the reputable timeshare folks who can put it on the market for you. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I think some folks don't understand the intent of the question. We'd just prefer to have BWV points instead of HH, but are in no rush to do anything. I just got to thinking how much easier it might be to find someone who wanted our 2007 points transferred, and then the $55/point is probably about equal to what we'd get on the resale market after commission and any other costs that there might be (?) are subtracted, but a whole lot easier. Also possibly without haggling over who pays MF up until when, etc. Then we can pick up a BWV resale (to add to our other BWV and OKW contracts) and everyone's happy.

If no one knows the answer, I'll let you know what I find out when Member Admin sends me the instructions.

Thanks, T

Well, I got the documentation from Member Administration today on how to sell a contract. Step one is: find a buyer. No info about DVC directly buying a contract back other than through ROFR. I've sent an email with more specificity to my question to MS to forward to MA, so maybe will get a response next week....

I spoke to someone at Member Administration because I had a question about selling my points because of the new no smoking policy at the DVC resorts and I was told that there are certain days when they are given the authority to offer a member a buyback offer. It is not an everyday thing. I was offered $53/point for my 200 VWL points and I was told that the offer would remain on the table for 1 week. I was shocked that the offer was so low when you think about what Disney will turn around and sell those same points for. I already have my points listed for sale so I told her no thanks. So it appears that having Disney offer to buy your points would be a hit or miss thing. It wouldn't hurt to call MS and leave a message. Someone will eventually return your phone call.

Thanks Jeanette...that's helpful to know! I was hoping someone who'd actually talked to DVC about this would chime in.

I just got a call from member administration. Although they would be willing to "direct buy" my Boardwalk points, they are not interested in buying back HH points, so wouldn't even make me an offer.

Apparently it has something to do with how many "developer points" they already have available. Oh, well, it was a thought.....

In other words, they are willling to buy what they can sell for a HUGE profit! LOL!

Good Luck with your decisions!
