When Disney bites, bite back!

Can you imagine what the DIS boards would have read like if DIS was around in the days when there were no value resorts or value suites, there was no perk for resort guest like keeping the parks open 3 hours after closing or opening an hour early just for them at no extra charge, there was no such thing as Fastpass so everyone had to wait in 60+ minute lines for every ride, everyone was treated the same regardless of where they were staying & rides were breaking down just as often?! :scared1: That would be scary. I'm grateful just to sit on the curb at MK with my Dole Whip, because I remember those days. I am grateful for all those perks that have since been added at the expense of Disney that they didn't have to do at all. If I'm gonna get myself that upset at Disney over ten minutes of sitting idle on my favorite ride, than I'm in for one miserable life.

If people are gonna get that upset over 10 minutes than please give them fastpasses & give them to them without them even having to ask, like requested. I'll just be sure to stay clear of fastpass lines from then on, because when those lines are all backed up & moving just as slow as the standard lines, the last place I want to be is around those same people who will then be just as upset, but this time not over the ride pausing 10 minutes, but now that their compensated ticket put them in a long line. Then what will they demand? :confused3

I respectfully disagree with much of this thread.

Why do we think we are entitled to things? Why should any company be expected to a standard of nothing ever going wrong? When is it "just life?"

This is a vacation. Even a bad day at WDW is better than a good day at work. I don't hold Disney, or any one else for that matter, to guarantee me that every part of their facility will be without a problem. If they want to offer me something graciously, I would be delighted. But they don't "owe" me anything.

I spent three hours stuck in a mud hole in Kenya. My husband, the other travelers and I even tried to help the driver push the van out of this guck. Who knows how many animals we missed because we were too late for one of our safari excursions. I never held the company accountable for "life." We didn't insist another vehicle come out and take the paying customers on to our destination. We hung out. We waited. In 100 degree heat. And have a story to tell.

I think it is all about expectations. I don't expect too much and I am always happy. :D

I think getting a fast pass is completely reasonable. It's not just the 10 minutes--it's the ruined experience and the time they waited in line to ride.

I don't think it's really about entitlement, but rather about accountability. Disney should (and often does) understand that people waited a long time to go on a ride, and if possible, they should deliver the ride as promised. A fastpass is the logical way to do that.

:rotfl2: That is FUNNY!
Love it.

I take two relationships in life VERY seriously- Disney & the Mets, I won't cheat on either!!!

Plus, Yankee fans literally make me sick. No, really. I actually have to take medicine when I'm around them. And God forbid if I'm around them while at Universal, well, we'll just leave it at that. It's not good. I really need to move out of NY, no wait Yankee fans are everywhere- it's easy to root for the 200+ million dollar team that always wins, I mean that used to always win. ;)

OMG! What would you do if you ran into Derek Jetter in Magic Kingdom? Make sure you go directly to guest services and demand a refund for your Disney experience being ruined.:lmao:

Buzz during busy periods. LOL, that thing was stopped more that it worked when we were on it in April. I swear, I could handle the dozen or so stop/starts during the duration of the ride (especially since you can keep scoing points!) but hearing the darn announcement over and over...and OVER, aaaaauuuggghhhh! I get, i get it, technical difficulties!

The OP was stuck on the ride for a whole ten minutes! The horror!

Actually, I think asking for a fast pass was not a bad idea. But I can also see that Disney cannot hand them out for every ride that is delayed 10 minutes. The fast pass lines would be enormous! There is no need to take your pitchforks to Disney World and demand compensation. Rides break down sometimes. Fact of life, or act of God, take your pick. But to get so upset over it that you want to lead a revolt is silly.

I wrote a big long rant, but I think it may be better to just leave it at this: Disney should've cheerfully given the OP a FastPass when he asked. Should they offer a FastPass to everyone waiting in line, including those that just got in line? That doesn't seem reasonable, but for those who wait up to an hour or more, only to have the ride break down, I don't think that a FastPass is unreasonable. Is it the end of the world? Certainly not, and I don't know why some people are suggesting the OP thinks so; not every issue brought up has to be mocked as the end of the world, and it's rather arrogant and disrespectful to essentially say, "shut up and relax; it's a just vacation."

Others park don't offer anything. At Kings Island we had multiple rides break down and some closed on our day there. I think that is part of risk with mechanical rides. I wouldn't expect anything but- what is a fast pass if someone asks for it. I think they may not be able to offer it to everyone everytime a ride is interrupted though. That may be to many. And then what good is the fast pass:confused3

(may be repetitive since I didn['t read the whole thread)

If I was caught in a ride breakdown, I would feel free to take pictures including with flash. Nice way to record an unusual event.

(changed my mind about something I said here yesterday so that sentence is deleted)

If a guest got stuck on a ride (or anywhere else within the World), things like other fastpasses that expired, and restaurant reservations, should still be honored.

Let's go METS! Speaking of entitlement, take a look at the Yankees. Sheesh, when they don't win a World Series they act like they should have just because they are the Yankees. DH gags when he sees Yankees commercials on YES. Go Red Sox!

 Can you imagine?! They would have to guarantee me the castle suite for life, because that's just uncalled for & frankly very unDisney like, if you ask me. Letting someone like that in the most magical place on earth! What a cruel world we live in. What's next? You'll tell me the Patriots are cheaters & that most of the big name players in baseball (& other sports for that matter) use steroids?!

I totally agree. I am not a fan of Universal or the Yanks.
I had an absolutely horrible day the last time I went to Universal and any team that tries to BUY championships SUCKS big Yankee foul balls.

Regarding your quote, I love Disney but not so much the Mets. They knocked my Astros out of the playoffs once. But since the Astros also suck this year (partly because we lost our pitchers to the freakin' YANKEES) I will root for the Mets (even though they stole Beltran).
lol
This is getting confusing.

OH and not to get off track of this thread, I fully support FPs and short lines and freedom of speech.
Broken rides should be fixed and, SUCH AS, in the event that you should get stuck on a ride and/or in queue for one when it breaks, then and only then, should you be awarded compensation, SUCH AS a FP; unless your wait time does not exceed more than fifteen minutes wherein such case or probable cause you should receive a coupon for a free treat, SUCH AS, a Mickey Bar in consideration of your inconvenience brought upon you by either a broken ride or excess time required to board a handicapped or disabled person or persons excluding cleanups due to rider illness or panic or disorientation caused by the subject ride and only the ride and not by some illness incurred prior to boarding and/or queuing said ride, SUCH AS, from bad food from a UNIVERSAL STUDIOS RESTUARANTE or SUCH AS, from Da Iraq or even SUCH AS South Africa, not to be confused with SUCH AS the Animal Kingdom which you will see on your world map is nowhere near South Africa or Da Iraq.
There, that about sums it up.
I have safely now with safety in mind removed my tongue safely from my cheek safely.

I appreciate your mets support due to your ailing team & your hatred for the team that buys post season.

I will tell you that when Beltran was in the process of leaving you guys he wanted to be a Yankee & only a Yankee. He even lowered his contract price to appease them & they still wouldn't take him. Bet they're sorry now. They chose Damon over Beltran. How's that worked out for them so far? It's worked out great for us. Once the Yankees were a dead issue he chose the mets. Thanks Brian Cashman!

DIS needs to start a sports talk forum. So many of these forums end up talking about sports. I'm in favor of it! :thumbsup2

Here Here!
All life is a game of luck!

I think that's a great idea.

Yeah we all thought Carlos would be a Yankee.

GO METS!

Ok. I see a lot of things being thrown around: "Age of Entitlement" or whatever. Here's the bottom line:

I've been saving for this vacation for a long, long time. My family has been looking forward to it for a long time. After this vacation, we don't know when we will get there again.

Now, I am paying Disney for a service. The service Disney is providing is to give me and my family a vacation that is fun, that is special, and that will be remembered.

There have been a total of two times that I have been effected by a broken ride. The first (and honestly coolest), was during a ride on Space Mountain. A tram got stuck at the top of the first hill, and they turned the lights on just as we were going down. I rode space mountain with the lights on.

Kind of a tame ride, the darkness does add to it.

The second time, it was for dumbo. probably a 20 minute breakdown.

Both times we were offered Fast Passes. The dumbo we took them, the space mountain we didn't. How often do you get to ride space mountain with the lights on?

Regardless: in both instances, Fast passes were handed out quickly and without having to ask. When we go to Disney, we have the right to expect things to be running smoothly. We expect that the ride will perform as it should. When it doesn't, it is an inconvience to us, and we should be reimbersed. That's just part of the deal. If this was Kings dominion, or six flags, or whatever, it's different. But this is DISNEY, it is significantly more expensive, and takes a much bigger commitment.

How many times have you gone to six flags for 7 days in a row, and seen something different everyday?

In addition, the example if "if your car broke down on the highway...." blah blah blah... it just doesn't apply. Last I checked, nobody PAYS to follow behind me on the highway. Nobody flies to Rochester and follows me around the roads for 7 days, paying out the waazoo to do it.

And the whole "a bad day at disney is better then the best day at work" doesn't apply to everyone. My best day at work, I helped save a two year old little girls life. There is nearly NOTHING on the planet that is better then that.

just my 2 cents. pirate:

The monorail stopped for about 10 minutes on our way to EPCOT one day. A woman in our car immediately started ranting loudly about maybe being late for her dining reservation and that Disney was going to "pay big time" for her inconvenience. She carried on the whole time we were stopped. Her family looked completely embarrassed. My DS5 whispered in my ear, "What's wrong with that lady? Doesn't she know she's on vacation?" Frankly it's mighty silly to think short ride stoppages are worthy of a consumer uprising and demands for compensation. Maybe the CMs should have done a better job of disguising their annoyance, but I don't blame them.

In customer service, it is all about doing the little things. At WDW, people expect to stand in line and wait. People also realize that rides will break down whicht can be a bummer and you might not get to ride. However, if you are on a ride that breaks down and you have to be evacuated, then a FP would be a little thing that would make most of those people happy. And you shouldn't have to ask for one. Also, if the FP was for any other ride in the park and open ended, The FP queue wouldn't fill up like some posters have suggessted.

On a ride like Test Track, you wouldn't be stopped on the course while they load a disabled person. If you are stopped on the course, there is something wrong with the ride.
