A question for those with GTY reservation who booked directly with DCL or otherwise had access to your reservation on the DCL website:

How far in advance of the cruise did your GTY status change to a room number?

:bounce:

Most of times we had booked GTY we did not find out our stateroom until arriving at the port.

The DCL website will only shows your ressie up to about 2 weeks before sailing then they are no longer available to view online. It think I was told that they start to figure out all the assignments during that time so you would not know what you have unless you called DCL and inquired. They may or may not be able to tell you what you have yet.

Are you saying that when you received your docs they did not even reflect a room assignment?

I may be totally confused, but I thought that most if not all docs had one's room assignment?

Sometimes you find out when you get docs, other times not till you arrive at the port. We've had it work both ways.

Seems that the longer it takes, the better the chance that the upgrade fairy comes to call.....

i didn t receive the room number too, just " Stateroom #: GTY ", please, what means GTY !?

thanks

GTY means that you're Guaranteed to get at least a stateroom in the category that you booked but they haven't assigned the specific cabin yet. Most folks think you have a better chance of an upgrade with a GTY room. If you get an upgrade you'll get the better cabin WITHOUT any increase in price. In my book, GTY is good.

We are sailing September 30. I checked my ressie this morning and my cabin number is there - 6089!

How exciting! As my cruise neared, I would probably check a dozen times a day -- I guess it is probably good for me that I don't have access since I transferred the reservation to a TA. ;)

My trip is planned for the 23rd of September and we have our room number already and were upgraded from Cat 12 to Cat 9. From what I can tell our cruise was sold out about a week before that, there are a couple before ours that are still not sold out so I don't know how those work.

As I was moving to the next page of posts and checking my reservation in another window, I was thinking "I should just post and ask how far in advance it might change from a GTY". Lo and behold this thread was at the top of the next page!

Thanks to everyone for the answers. I'm still months away and now that my full payment has been applied, I could probably stop checking every day! It's a habit now, though, so unless they notice at work and tell me to stop, I'll probably keep checking!

I booked my specific cabin when I made the reservations through the TA. Or at least I thought I did...right?

Thanks, but the question was if you booked GTY when it changed to a room number on the DCL site. Like Tarabelle, I think many people check repeatedly and some of us probably want an idea of the earliest it could happen!

Sorry, I was just hoping I wasn't going to get a surprise thinking I was booked into a certain room and finding out differently.

I think that is always a possibility. Cruisers with assigned staterooms are upgraded sometimes.

Upgraded is fine. I was more worried about being not mid-ship or on a lower deck or something. Upgraded? Really? Woohoo! That'd be amazing!
