When did your DD outgrow Princesses?

I was thinking about doing a Mother- Daughter breakfast at Akershus on our next trip. I showed my 7 year old DD a youtube of it and she said "That's just for little kids." Then I showed her Princess Fairytale Hall and she said "I've seen all the Princesses already, I just want to go on all the rides."

On the one hand I am quite happy to save money on an overpriced breakfast and not have to stand in line for characters. On the other hand, I am sad that this time in her life had ended

Mine lost interest at age 6 ( She is 9 now) .She likes characters, but there are a precious few that she feels the need to see or dine with.

I think it happens at different ages for different children. I can see even in our 1st grade class, the girls are starting to move on from princesses and fairies Some of them are moving onto things that aren't that appropriate for that age group but I digress.

I would book Akershus anyway if you want to go. It's still a nice breakfast and she might like it more once she is there.

we are doing a girls trip only in a couple of weeks. My dd wants dinner with cinderella and we have FP+ to see Rapunzel. She is 21.

My DD is 13 and she still loves to see the princesses. The experience is different than when she was a little girl and believed they were "real" but we still have fun. We have done Askerhus and 1900 Park Fare since she was a toddler and it wouldn't be a Disney trip without them!

My DD is 6 1/2. Before school, when shopping for lunchboxes and such, we went to the Disney store for their sales, plus I had a coupon!! I thought, great, I will save tons of money, maybe I'll even buy her two so if one falls apart she'll have another.

She couldn't decide, I pointed out the Princess one, the Little Mermaid, the Rapunzel.... "Mommy, all of these are so babyish!!! I don't want a princess lunchbox!"

Ugh... it was like a dagger to the heart. 6 years old!!! I thought I had at least a few more years of Princesses. LOL

I think they outgrow it at this age, then love it again when they're older. I'm 38 and I love princesses.

This was a sad day indeed.

ETA... I think that she "secretly" still loves them but there's girls at school that say they're babyish, and she is probably falling into that peer pressure. At 6 ugh.

Around age 5-6, although it was never a huge thing for her to begin with. She never really connected with the whole Princess Thing. Then once she got a taste for the rides she didn't want to waste time in line for M&G's.

That said, she will make time for it for specific characters.... truly she loves the characters for who they are in film & what they represent to her... talking to them in character & asking questions as if she just stepped into their movie & was hanging out.

She had an absolute blast meeting Wreck It Ralph & Venelope (sp?) because they were fun characters. Vidia was hilarious with her eye-rolling, snappy attitude. She wanted a pic with Marie in Town Square because she sleeps with a stuffed Marie every night & thought it was hilarious to have a pic for her room. Merida was her #1 must-do M&G - she melted once she heard that Scottish accent & Merida started off about her being a redhead & "had she seen that girl Ariel yet.... Ariel had recommended that she try to use her Dinglehopper to tame her curls but she's pretty sure it got lost in there... do you see it anywhere, in the back???" I have pics of her searching through Merida's mane for a missing dinglehopper.

ETWB is perfect for a kid like her because it takes the whole M&G to a different, more immersive level where it's not just about a quick autograph & picture. The last M&G we did was the Tremaine Family just after RD at MK. They came out, grabbed up 2 little girls, marched them to the Carousel & rode along, taking the girls back to the M&G area when it was over. Their interaction with DD was HILARIOUS, they had people all around us rolling with laughter. We laughed until our faces hurt, it was contagious & magical.

DD was about 9 or 10 - the last of her friends to do so, though her BFF was really into the fairies after that age. DD is now 15 and is very insistent that we go to BOG because Belle was her favorite and "the little girl inside me really wants to eat in Beast's castle". I am just hoping we do not have to come home with any B&B dishes to be put away for the future.

She is really loving the idea of Frozen, too. Should be interesting because I think she likes the idea of how strong Anna looks and since DD has a second degree black belt in tae kwon do, strong girls are her favorites.

(She really never did get into Cinderella at all, but loved Aurora's and Snow White's dresses.)

CRT meal was at age 8. We booked a BBB appointment at age 10 but she wanted a hair wrap instead.

There was an element of peer pressure involved. She did dress up as Merida for Halloween when she was 9. She's a natural red head. But she stated that Merida was a not a normal princess so it was okay.

My Daughter is 7 1/2, and I always made her customized autograph books for all the special meals and the character meet and greets and she has told me she doesn't want me to make one for our NYE trip. She will just want to see a few and get a few pictures, and character meets are not on her priority list. While I am excited that she is more interested in the rides and wants to ride Rock N Roller Coaster and such, but at the same time my daughter is growing up to fast. LOL

MY DD9 is the same; natural redhead & she said she flat-out refuses the notion that Merida qualifies as a "Princess", that it's "really ridiculous when you think about it Mom... have they SEEN the movie?" She can't walk past any of the new images of Merida since her makeover without making remarks.

She's driving me mad looking for a REAL Merida costume for this year - she wants the turquoise dress (not green), without the embelleshments, from the movie. I can't find it anywhere, I'm going to have to ask my mom to help me make one.

Well, 13 years and counting. I think it helps that my oldest is just really into Disney. She likes other characters better now, for sure, but she is excited about our Princess breakfast and dinner at Park Faire.

I'd say 3rd grade. We went with friends and their DD started in 2nd grade because of older cousins.

Sad cause one DD loved tink, so of course has tons of tink, and then poof.....like overnight......no longer interested. But that DD now 13 just bought a modern sleeping beauty t-shirt with her own money?? So who knows.

The kids are tired of Disney at this point. We live 100 miles away( just moved to fl) and are going next week. So they are excited to try universal but I asked them if they still wanted to do Disney and they said yes?? . And DD had to go on the Epcot field trip with her class, but is never excited about going to Disney.....but yet once they are there they have fun. But the same thing happens with the pool, seems DH and I are the only ones using it.

So, my advice is to do what you want.

I bought into DVC for me not the kids, I bought our pool for me not the kids, I went on a cruise for me not the kids and I'm going to Disney next week for me not the kids. Heck if they have fun...great!

She is also tired of Disney. We've taken the kids too much I guess. She told me she likes Disneyland better than Disney World because it's not as spread out so there is less walking.

I guess that means I'll have to go back to Disneyland. LOL

My girls are 13yo and 11yo. They still love the princesses! Love to meet them, get their autographs, trade for their pins, buy their merchandise and watch their movies. After reading others' responses, it appears they are really weird but I love that they are still little girls in their hearts

2nd grade was the last time our daughter enjoyed seeing the princesses. Now she's to "cool" for that since she's soooo grown up.......insert rolling of the eyes here since she's only twelve!

I think part of the issue is that even though the princesses themselves are adults, for the most part anyway....Disney markets the princesses to little girls from about two years old and on. So by the time a girl is 7, she can perceive them as babyish.

My dd is 15 and still loves the princesses. We've stood in loooong lines so she can meet princesses.

My daughter (or son for that matter) and her friends never up grew the Disney characters or the magic of Disney.

They did want to try the major coasters and thrill rides other parks have, but I have seen that about the time they were in college they renewed their love of Disney and the Disney magic and now go as much as when they were young.

I guess the thrill ride wear off pretty fast, there just isn't any Magic to them.
