When did your child first fly by themselves?

Spring break is next week for us and our daughter is going to my sisters for a few days. She is seven and about to take her first flight without us. She is 7. Quick easy non-stop flight.

You do know that a thumbs down sign. This is the question mark

I see you're still using the wrong post icon, MMD.

My child has never flown without me on the plane. In a few years, he'll be 18 and he can fly by himself then.

I was five (day after my fifth birthday - you had to be five to fly unaccompanied, so my trip had to be moved by a few days).

I had no problems at all and loved it. Of course, I had already flown quite a bit by this point, but always with an adult (not always my parents), which might make a difference.

My DD is 10 she hasn't flown alone yet but I am planing to let her this summer. I am not worried at all, she is quite outgoing she will fly as an unaccompanied minor so I will walk her to the gate and a flight attendant will take on and off the plane.

her father is going to have a fit but he likes to helicopter her.

She was 6 as an unaccompanied minor and by 12 was flying totally by herself NOT as an unaccompanied minor.

Never had a bit of problems.

They haven't. Well, my oldest, then 10, flew a plane we weren't on, but it was a cessna and the pilot was right there in case he made a mistake.

My youngest is 8 and has anxiety and sensory issues. No way would I let him fly alone and I'm not sure when I would.

Define "alone". DS14 flew to China without us but he was with his high school band.

The kids have never flow "alone", never really had the opportunity to do so really. We don't have family out of state and no real reason to travel alone otherwise.

If you let your child fly alone, why are you using the thumbsdown icon? Thumbsdown would imply you disagree with the practice. :confused3

Can't remember exactly, but they were probably 8 and 10. They had to fly to go visit their dad for the summer. When they were in middle school they flew from North Carolina to Guam by themselves. It was a little stressful for me, but they were fine.

I was 11. My parents sent me down to Florida for spring break to visit my grandparents so I wouldn't be in the house when my mom started chemo treatments.

I was 19 the next time I flew alone... back to college from Disney! (My parents flew home and I go to school out-of-state so it made more sense for me to fly to school). I travel alone all the time though (I either take the bus or train to and from school or I drive if it's a longer break).

OT but I really hope one of my kids is a band kid....they take the coolest trips! I dropped out in my freshman year. I could have gone to WDW, Hawaii, Europe, and LA. Grr...

Anyway, I flew by myself to WDW in 1992...so I was 14. I would let my kids do it around 11 or so if need be.

Dd14 started flying alone when she was 10. By the time she was 12, I no longer paid the extra fee to have someone watch out for her. They were direct flights, and she had her cellphone on her (which was a good thing, because once SIL was late picking her up at the airport ). She flew without me this week across the country, but with school.
