I never dated in high school until about one-month before I graduated. I met a guy outside of my HS (just in time for the Senior Prom) and dated him then for 3 years. But no dates at all in HS.

My DD (17) seems to be the same way. In fact, most of her friends in HS don't date -- they may meet a group at the movies, but that's about it. They don't even have dates when they go to the Homecoming Dance -- the girls go in a big group and meet up with the guys at the dance and leave separately.

I can't say I'm worried (in fact, I'm kind of relieved), but just curious about you and your teenagers and what you/they did/do?

Sophomore year in high school. I dated one girl throughout high school, and when we started dating, she was 16 and I was 15, so she picked me up for dates. :)

I wasn't allowed to car date until I was 16, except for special occasions like Homecoming. I really didn't date very much until I met DH. It was the end of my junior year and, well, the rest is history!

I was like you, FOJMO. I had no dates until I was out of high school. Maybe I was just akward, but the only guys/boys who took an interest were after one thing, and when it didn't happen, they lost interest very quickly. I graduated in '95. I felt like I was the only one, but now that I think back, there were lots like me. Just average kids! I think it is normal.

I started dating when I was a freshman in High School.

Same way here...did not date until I was a senior. Most of my friends and I would just hang out together. Guys and girls.

My DD-17 is the same way.

Kind of nice not to have to worry about her having a "Serious relationship" while she is so young.

i started dating at the young age of 14! my dad had flat out said no, but mom and i convinced him to allow me to double date. i wasn't allowed to go out with a guy alone. he and i dated for about a year and a half starting at the end of my freshman year. we had an odd relationship for a couple of teenagers. he ended up moving in with my family! he didn't have a great family life...but anyway, he no longer lived with us by the time we had broken up (we had moved to arizona and he was is iowa by then). after him, i dated 1 other guy while in high school for about a month...and then no one until sophomore year of college!

oh, and by the way...that first guy i dated in high school...he's now my husband! it took us 10 years to back together, but it was worth it in the end. :)

I think I was almost 16. It was his junior prom. Nothing serious though.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my sister just the other day. (Keep in mind she is 22 yrs. older than me). We were talking about my kids and the girl that moved in next door. It is obvious that she has a crush on my son and she asked me if I would let them go out....on a date. I said no...none of my kids are going anywhere alone with a member of the opposite sex til they are 16. Kids today are growing up so fast...I can't stop it but I sure as heck can "slow the train" down! :bounce: They have enough going on in their lives with school, and just all the stuff they are going through with growing up, the last thing they needed to worry about was girlfriends/boyfriends. This all makes sense to me, but she tells me I'm being a prude and sounding like our mother! I said if kids start dating at 13, kissing (serious) by 14...what happens next? She told me I was being ridiculous! I was tempted to point out that she let one of her DDs date at 13. By 14, I thought she was dating a vampire she had so many hickies. She came home one day an unwed teenage mother (granted she married the guy after the baby was born and they are still together 16 yrs later).

Age 12. I took Ellen Weinstein to see Gone With The Wind in San Francisco. Her parents loved me, but good ole Ellen was a littttttttttttle cautious :D .....

Hmm.. I was 15. We never really did group dates or double dates but more one on one.

I llived out in the country, so to coordinate a group of people together was a logisitical nightmare (people lived MILES apart) when most of us didn't drive yet.

So wer would go to school dances, and then that turned into meeting at a halfway point like the movies/mall or something like that.

my first real date was when i was 15. :)

About 16, junior year. It was mostly group stuff - I think only once it was just two of us.
Other than taking guys to dances, I never really dated, not even with DH. He went to a military college, so dating consisted of walking around the parade ground without touching.

Freshman year. I had long term relationships though so I only dated two guys all through hs. The second one is my dh.

We let Ashli start dating when she turned 16 years old. Until Titus her relatioships didn't usually last over 3-4 months so she's had time to date a few young men through hs but not too many.

15, he was 16, and I kept him throughout high school til he went to college. Got back together halfway through his freshman year at college, and now its my turn...eeek!

Just went out in groups of friends in JR High School. I think it was the Valentine's day Dance in 8th grade that I had a first real planned date. Although since neither of us was old enough to drive, we just met at the dance. I do have a rather awkward looking picture of the two of us from that night taken by the photographer at the dance. Found out later that he thought we were going out, but he had never asked me out, so I didn't think we were. Then one day he "left" me for another girl....I thought this was all very funny as I never thought we were "together" in the first place. I have a friend who still to this day teases me about something I had said that V-day dance night. I guess she sort of "suggested" that he kiss me. He leaned in so quickly and then just pulled away. It would have been my first kiss, but I don't think we even made contact. :) My friend asked me later what it felt like, and I said it "felt like air." She repeats this line to me every once in awhile as a joke, even though we are both now in our twenties.

My first real boyfriend did not happen until the summer between 10th and 11th grades. I was 16. We then dated only each other all through high school.

I think I was 19....

I went on my 1st date a month before my 17th birthday. My date rode his bike to my house (from the next town over :D ) and we walked to an end-of-the-school-year BBQ at a friends house.

some group dating in HS and a on and off BF junior and senior year

met DBF(now) at a college function and we'll be together a year at the end of the month
