When did you fall in love with Disney World? Was it love at first sight? Were you a reluctant trip recruit? When did you first realize you were under the spell of Disney Magic?

It took me quite a while to fall under the spell of Disney Magic.

The Awareness Stage

As a baby boomer I watched the footage from Disneyland on the Mickey Mouse Club (in black and white) and dreamed of flying with Dumbo. I watched "The Wonderful World of Disney" (on a black & white set), and Disney moviespopcorn:: were the only ones we were permitted to see (with the exception of Charlton Heston in "The Ten Commandments" at a drive-in on the 4th of July with fireworks).

Failed First Date Stage

In 1973:hippie: I teamed up with some co-workers for Daytona Beach spring break. After a day on the boardwalk, we spent a day at the Magic Kingdom. Frankly, I don't remember much about that visit except Peter Pan (Dumbo was not operating that day) and figuring out the ride tickets. No magic for me yet.:confused3

Second Chance Stage

November of 1994 I visited Disneyland. My Trade Association had rented the park for the evening and my very first stop was Dumbo. I rode ride after ride with little or no wait. It was fun, but I didn't begin to feel anything special until standing in the queue for the Roger Rabbit Taxi ride. It was an amazing queue. I began to look at the depth of detail in the Haunted Mansion. I might come back. Maybe. Sometime.:thumbsup2

Getting Acquainted Stage

It would be another 5 years before another visit to Disney, this one a 4 day hopper at Walt Disney World. I was enthralled with Epcot, amazed at the Animal Kingdom, thrilled at MGM, and infatuated with the Magic Kingdom. But I was not yet in love.:woohoo:

The Love Bug Strikes, but it’s not Herbie!

2002 - I needed a vacation somewhere I could have fun and be safe all by myself. I first searched for a cruise, but nothing was in budget. Then I saw the Disney World value resort sale advertised for $55 per night and I began doing some online research.:surfweb: I decided to try Disney World because nothing else was working out. And I began to fall in love on that trip.

After a red-eye flight and the Mears shuttle, I arrived at the All Star Sports check-in. I requested a quiet room on the top floor. No problem. That was during the "length of stay" packages, so I asked to have the cost of my departure day (early flight) deducted from my ticket price. No problem. It was 10 AM and my room was ready. WOW.:wizard: I grabbed a quick shower and the next bus to the Animal Kingdom. I discovered Primeval Whirl and the Tarzan show. Double WOW.:wizard: :wizard:

The next day at the Magic Kingdom, somewhere between getting a fast pass for Buzz and riding Astro-Orbiter, I lost my KTTW. I panicked.:scared1: I was traveling light with only $10 cash on me. No ID, nothing else. As I made my way to the exit to go back to my resort and hassle with the front desk (wondering if I could even ride the bus without my KTTW), I spotted Guest Services and decided to see if someone might have found it and turned it into lost and found. I was greeted with a huge smile and an attitude that made me sit up and take notice. "Oh, don't worry, that happens all the time. I'll cancel your charging privileges and get you a ticket for today so you can continue to enjoy the Magic Kingdom. You can replace your KTTW when you return to your resort this evening." WOW. They really wanted me to have a good time, even though losing my ticket was totally my own fault. They fixed it with no hassles whatsoever. After a call to the resort, I got my ticket du jour and I was on my way to the Jungle Cruise.

It was like that moment you look at someone and really "see" him or her. I started noticing the queues, the street performers, the costuming for cast members, and the landscaping. I was falling deeper and deeper in love with the Disney magic.

Like any successful relationship, the more I learn, the more in love I am. When I’m not planning my next trip, I read other people’s trip reports. I maintain spreadsheets for packing lists, adding or replacing when someone else’s better idea comes along. And it’s a warts and all thing. Hot weather, under deodorized crowds, late buses, and lines are no contest compared with the creativity and imagination present everywhere you look and, most of all, the Cast Members who make it all work. :cheer2:

How about you? When (and how) did you fall in love with Disney?

Ours would have to be the first trip, 1977, Contemporary Resort. The resort itself was the hook, never seen a resort on that scale, gameroom and dining. Our son was 5, seeing and hearing the gameroom was magic to him. Grandpa would sneak him down there and they would play for hours, bullseye pool was another favorite and then night came, and so did the EWP and we felt blessed, all this splender, in one area, never mind the Magic Kingdom and we left wanting to explore and experience more.

Well, we have, 41 trip coming in 11 days, children gone now but the magic still remains. No other destination holds the mystique that WDW does. We've gone other places, not enjoyed ourselves and spent more money but have returned to the one, all inclusive theme area in the US. As the trips unfolded, so have our interests and how we do Disney. We still do not rent a car and never have left the property once we're there, and have always stayed on property, Disney has it all. As long as our stamina and strength hold out, we'll stay dedicated Disney World fans.

Even before visiting "home" for the first time. I would always watch the Disney movies on tv opened by Michael Eisner and I had every Disney video and I would watch them all over and over again. One of my favorites was the Disney Christmas Sing-Along-Songs video and I would watch it all the time (yes even in the summer :thumbsup2 ) and I would always cry when it came to the end and it was the Christmas Parade in the park. It was my dream since I was little to visit "home" during Christmas so I could see all the decorations and see the parade - my DH finally made my dream come true last year and I got to experience that with my DH and my children it was so beautiful :cloud9: I can't wait to do it again. I cried almost every single day at every single thing because I was so happy just to be there.

For my children they fell in love with all that is Disney after our first family vacation there for my bffs wedding in 06 and they absolutely love it and get so excited when they know we are going back.

My first was when I went for the very first time in 2006:love: It was love at first sight!!:cloud9: Well, almost love at first sight. I was taking everything in and of course loving every minute of it!!!:thumbsup2 All of the fantasy planning behind it, the fact that I was there, and anything else that you could think of.

My fall in love point was when we were at MK and watching the Wishes fireworks...(getting teasry eyed as I'm writing this so excuse if it's bad spelling)...and listening to Jiminy Cricket talking and then seeing Tinkerbell flying across....I just lost it!! I was so in awe of the place and how I haven't felt this way about a place in a long time!!!! Ever since then, I've become a full fledge Disney fanatic!!!

A million thanks to Walt Disney for what he has done and accomplished!! I will never ever be able to tell just how much WDW means to me and what it does for me!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you...for everything!!!!:cloud9:

My first visit to the Magic Kingdom that lit the spark, was 1975 Grad Nite. Of course the girls tried to look good for the guysprincess: and the guys wanted to be "CooL".:cool2: We mostly looked like:hippie: (I am sure alot of you remember those days):lmao: Anyway I really started to fall deeply in love with Mouse when we started taking our kids. Boy! when you see the eyes on those kids light up........there is no feeling like it. Now all the kids are grown and gone.:sad1: Just me and DH, , but we don't sit at home. Disney here we come, (without the kids):cool1: Wow! what a difference in the way you view things. Flowers are prettier, shows are nicer, attractions like The Hall of Presidents don't seem to be too long anymore....:woohoo: Oops!!! here come the grandkids:dance3: . Awwwwwww....have fallen in love with Dumbo, It's a Small World, Winnie the Pooh and characters all over again. Me and Grandpa now feel like kids again...Thanks to Disney our life and outlook on it changes constantly.:thumbsup2 Can't wait to see what happens next............:wizard:

I don't know the exact moment that it happened for me, but surprisingly, mine wasn't the first visit either. I had a good time that first trip and a good time on the second trip, but I believe it was around that third trip, where I actually started booking the trip myself instead of someone else, where I learned about all the things Disney will do for you and how easy it all was. Then I started paying more attention to the details and learning more about the history of the parks and Walt Disney himself. Ever since then, its been one of the most important things in my life. Its what makes me happy day in and day out. :cloud9:

It was after I planned the first trip by myself and discovered the Disney Resorts. Now you can't keep us away and I'm an expert planner!

From as far back as I can rememer I always wanted to visit Disney World. It probably started when my grandparents would go there in the early years camping and always bring us back our Mouse Ears. Every birthday wish was to go to Disney World and finally in fifth grade (I guess I was about 10) our Christmas gift was that we were finally going to get to go. That was January 1983. We only spent 3 days there, but there was only the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT had only been open a few months. Went again in seventh grade with my best friend and her family. Then Disney kinda faded utill 2004 when my aunts started planning my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary party at the Living Seas pavillion. It was definately on that rtip that I totoally fell in love with the World  I think it was seeing it through my kids eyes that really made it and I got to feel like a kid again. Now I wish I could be there all the time. When I'm having a bad day I just think of Disney World and things seem a little better. October can't come fast enough.

It was love at first sight. My dad was a school teacher and I am one of six children. There were no family trips to Disney when I was a kid. Simply not enough money. So fast forward through a childhood where I was deprived of Disney. It was now my freshman year of college. A friend was going to Disney with her family to stay at the then pretty new Grand Floridian. She begged us to come down at the same time so she wouldn't be bored silly. So four of us got a trailer at Fort Wilderness for five days at the end of June. The first day we went to Magic Kingdom. Here I was a cool 18 yr old and I entered Magic Kingdom, looked up at that beautiful castle and started grinning from ear to ear. I then jumped up and down over and over squealing to my friends, "We're here! We are actually in Disney World!" So that was it..I was hooked. We had the best time that trip. One of those friends who went with me is now my sister in law! I still am not an annual traveler but I love the World. And now that I have kids to share it with it is even more special.

I never had the travel bug but DH wanted to go to the USA and we booked a last minute trip to Orlando - staying in Kissimmee.

That was probably 17 years ago and I am now planning our 11th visit to WDW. We try to visit every other year (or more money permitting)!

I think the more you go the more you want to go back!! :)

My parents took me for the first time in 1972. I was 6 years old and we stayed at the Polynesian. I remember seeing the castle and it was love at first site. I don't remember a lot about that first trip but I do recall all the magic and I feel the same way now. Each time I'm at the MK to see that morning train pull up and watch the show, I tear up and I am transformed to that 6 year old girl seeing Disney for the very first time. I have been fortunate to share that with my daughter and now even though she's an 18 year old college kid she still loves WDW and like her mom is magically transformed into a child each time she sets foot in the World.:grouphug:

My parents took us to disneyland when I was 17 and I immediately fell in love. Not with all the rides but with Mickey and all the magic. However as I "matured" into an adult I was too shy to tell others so I hid it. I feel so guilty about this. When my sons were young though I made sure they had disney birthday partys and disney toys. The more I aged I couldn't keep it
quiet!
In 1999 I received a cash bonus and at the same time won two round trip airline tickets. Some one asked where I would go and I said if I had my choice it would be disneyworld. Oh now it had slipped out--my addiction to disney. LOL Well my dh and I did go to DW! We loved it! I didn't or couldn't keep my love quiet any longer.
I was addicted 100%! My house is decorated disney, my car is decorated disney and all my grandkids now are disney addicts in training. Actually even all my friends at church know that I am an addict---to disney. LOL
My dh and I go every year and love it. Our next trip is about 160 days away. Oh I should mention that as our grandkids turn four years old we take just them to disneyland for a magical birthday. We have taken three so far and and 5 more to take as they turn the magical age of 4!
See ya at disney!

The first time I went was in the womb (1973) when my mom and dad took my older sisters ... and me ... the fetus. We went again when I was 4 (1977) and I was hooked right away. I don't remember that much but apparently we rammed around all day and I fell asleep every night at the dinner table. I was a park commando even then! :yay:

I fell in love at first sight. I was 2 and my parents took me to Disney for the 1st time. That was back when there was only one the MK and the Disney Marketplace. It must have made a big impact, because I have been going ever since!

:wizard: That's when I first fell in love with everything Disney. My first Trip to the World. Went to MK and Epcot and fell in love. Oh that Disney Magic!!

Maryann:surfweb:

I fell in love on our "one and only" FIRST trip to WDW - but not the first day! It was May - 1995 and I did not know about planning for our trip. We had read about the different parks and the rides - but no real planning. The first day of our "once in a lifetime" trip I was in tears and wondering what I had done to our vacation! It was the hottest week EVER in Florida (ok - so there was record breaking temps EVERY day! :) ) My love moment came about the third day when we walked in MK, headed up main street and my 5 yr old dd looked up at me and said - "This is where Mickey REALLY lives!" - the joy in her eyes! I was hooked. We have ben many times since then! So much for that "once in a lifetime" trip. Now when I hear someone say that - I simply reply - I sure hope not, that would mean you didn't find the magic!

I have to tell you that I have chills reading some of your love stories...they are great!! I fell in love at first sight  .....back when I first went in 3rd grade with my parents and my sister. We went a couple of times throughout my childhood, my best friend and I took our own trip when we graduated from HS, my DH and I honeymooned there ( his first time!!) and we took our own children for their first surprise trip last September.....I have to tell you, seeing it through their little eyes was soooo magical! :wizard: We can't wait to share it with our best friends and their children in just a few more months now. Thank you Walt for all the wonderful memories and the ones to come!!:goodvibes
