When did WDW change the refurb schedule on the waterparks?

I must have missed it. I saw on the front page of the forum that Blizzard Beach is going to be refurbed in Nov-Dec and Typhoon Lagoon in Dec-Jan.

I purposely scheduled our trip this winter to coincide with Blizzard Beach being open!! Now it's going to be closed!!

This is the last straw for me. Disney can close attractions when it suits them, but I can't get a park schedule for my own planning purposes until the last freaking minute.

Next year I'm vacationing elsewhere. I'm sick and tired of Disney and the games they play.

The schedule was changed because the Typhoon Lagoon refurb is going to be more involved and needed more than just one month. Supposedly they have received funding to expand the waterpark to allow it to equal the capacity of Blizzard Beach. This way if it runs over there will be one waterpark open.

That still doesn't explain why BB was switched. BB has always been closed AFTER TL.

Just schedule TL earlier if it's going to take longer.

This just shows that the people who make decisions do not look at the big picture or consider things from a guest standpoint.

I'm 100% positive that I'm not the only person who scheduled a vacation around when BB has always been open.

We didn't schedule around, but we were quite pumped up for the wave pool and shark reef for our trip after reviewing previous years and expecting BB to be closed.

We've done both and we much prefer BB over TL.

When we left this Feb, we all agreed to come back when BB was open.

When you live in Alaska, waterparks are HUGE part of a vacation.

Thanks Disney, for freaking NOTHING!!

I personally would never plan a trip to Disney during a time when I knew BB was going to be closed. It's a great waterpark!

Well, I think it makes sense even if it doesn't make everyone happy.

Doing Typhoon Lagoon earlier means they would have had to close it in October and the water parks ares still to busy then to have one of them closed. This way at least you know. If they stayed with the same schedule and use contractors I would assume they ran a risk of both water parks being closed. (It has been my observation that construction projects seem to always run behind!)

It still doesn't make a difference. If they have overruns on TL, it will impact the Spring break crowd. If they are truely expanding TL, do it first and get it out of the way. If it takes longer, no biggie, just slide BB's schedule back until TL is done. Once TL is done, everybody is going to want to go there to check out all the new stuff anyway. That gives the perfect time to refurb BB.

I just don't see the rationale.

What's even more frustrating is their official website doesn't even list anything.

Typical Disney. Ignore the fact that people may actually want to plan a vacation more than a week or two before they come.

I share the frustration as my DD has been talking for months about taking the surf class at TL when we go at the end of Feb. Now it doesn't look like that will be possible. Fortunately she is a "glass is half full" kind of kid and got pretty geeked up for BB after looking at pictures on the web.

We have been to WDW and had to work around the rehab schedules of the big three mountains... that's life, we just deal and enjoy the trip. After all, anything beats Michigan in Feb.!;)

ArcticWildMan,

It is all about you!!! Disney will check with you prior to your next booking so nothing you want is closed.

disney has to do what think is best regardless of your schedule.

 Yet again, if a person dares utter a word of frustration or dare say anything bad about Disney, the trolls come out in force.

Do me and others a favor, and ignore my post if you can't reply with something that is semi helpful or at least intelligent.

But then again Eeyore, I've seen lots of posts by you and that is what your are best at...taking pot shots at others who have a different opinion than you.

Mr Wildman,

At 5200 posts I am far from a troll.

Why is that you can whine about Disney destroying your vacation by doing something they feel the need to do but I can't point out the ME ME ME mentality. If you can state your opinions I think I can state mine.

If you go back and read my posts I'm consistent and not of the entitlement mentality. If you think me stating my opinion is taking potshots I think you don't like someone that doesn't jumnp on your bandwagon.

 BFD, you have 5200 posts. It still doesn't change the fact you are overbearing, rude and obnoxious half the time.

Thank you, I'll take it this as a compliment.

I definately do not want to jump into the middle of this cat fight, BUT does anyone happen to know when BB will be reopening?

My trip is planned for 12/7/03 - 12/16/03 and I was hoping to go to Blizzard Beach as opposed to Typhoon Lagoon. If it doesn't work out.......oh well! I guess we will just have to check out TL on this trip.

Thanks for letting us know when Blizzard Beach is going to be down for refurbishment. It's good information to have.

Sorry you are so disappointed that Disney changed their schedule. I guess that they were just thinking of their own best interest and since they are in the business of making a profit they are going to do what works best for their bottom line.

I know it's frustrating and we don't have to like it but I don't think there is much you can do except email Disney and express your anger and dismay over this turn of events.

I'm going to close this now, tempers are flaring.

Katholyn
