When did they start allowing flash photography on rides?

Nope, I don't agree. These anouncements are made after loading & before the ride leaves, when security announcedments are made. You should be paying attention then, especially if it is your first time. Also please see the following post. It is important, I think.

Not defending people who break photography rules, because really, what ever happened to the concept of people using common sense and courtesy??? :confused3 Absolutely drives me nuts. I have to say I love the flash in their eyes and the water gun ideas.:worship:

On the topic of announcements though, I can completely understand someone not hearing what is said. How many rides are there where you can clearly hear and understand everything said during an announcement? Between bad speaker quality, loud background noises and speed talking/mumbling CM's the announcements kind of became a running joke during our last visit.

Last trip there were TONS of kids (doggone pop warner week!!! popcorn:::rolleyes1) snapping pictures on every single ride. AND SCREAMING in the HM... I have it on video. I also have on video my discontent :lmao:

When is pop warner week?

Lovely Pop Warner this year is Sat 12/4- Sat 12/11 I believe, I marked it as DON"T GO THIS WEEK on my calendar.
Sorry but crowds of teenage girls screaming their heads off on TOT or marching down the streets chanting "we are the winners, you are the losers" with their oh so "proud" moms marching behind them does NOT make my trip magical, lol.
I know they arent all like that but after getting caught that week with them years ago it seemed at every park we were at, I will plan around that from now on.
Not Disney magical and not Christmasy,lol.....
Also, not sure what the comment about the line cutter picture was about. I don't care if I catch her in the act and post her pic and noone knows what she did. I know what she did and I thought it was a funny idea, along with others. By entering Disney you give the right for your likeness to be used, it used to be on the tickets. I know this can be a huge discussion, just saying, when we take a photo, we don't go and ask all the people in the background for written permission....
I'm looking forward to my mid August trip ,if the CMs dont want to make sure the rules are followed, I will remind the photographers that they really don't need the flash, it only lights up a few feet in front of them and not the scene 20-30 feet away.....I will be nice, I promise....:rolleyes1

If someone really screwed up the ride for you and you complained right as you got off would they let you ride again?

This is the new breed of Disney visitors. The rules do not apply to me, just everyone else. Sad, but true.[/QUOTE

Not just Disney visitors but it seems like a majority of the people in America. They want their free ride and handout. Let someone else pay for it.

You obviously do not have the photography bug. Over on the photography board, getting good in ride shots comes up at least weekly. Many of us simply enjoy the challenge. Almost all of us are using DSLRs with fast lenses though.

I like photos, but c'mon...It's not like every inch of WDW hasn't already been photographed a million and one times already. No matter how good a photo you take, one that is just as good has already been taken and posted onthe internet already. That's one ofthe great things about the internet.
So even if you DO take that great shot, well... so what?

Hoenstly, true professional phtotgraphers don't consider pictures of PotC a legitimate challenge. Sorry, it just isn't. The subject is just WAAAAYYY too common.

Once upon a time folks were MUCH better about repecting all the WDW ruels. they just were. It was such a magical place. I think the fact that it was SO clean and perfect, that folks felt the need to preserve it. Every time the cleanliness slips a little, so does the customer response. Look up chaos theory.

Now all that said, I've always understood that WDW late at night is a differnet beast. If you feel you must take photos on a ride, do it late at night when the rides are (nearly) empty. Make the small courtesy of minimizing the impact of your selfishness. Chances are very good that if you are taking pictures after 11pm, the majority of folks who are on the ride with you have already been on it a number of times.

That said, nobody needs to take 10000 shots of one ride. One or two pictures is more than enough.

Oh, and the same goes for video. Every ride is already available online, many times over.

I do the exact same thing. Of course, there was the time I was on Pirates and the people in the row in front of me repeatedly took flash photos. So...when they turned around, to take a shot of Johnny Depp as he came out of the barrel, I had my camera ready...flashed right in their faces. They were completely shocked. They started with a comment, but I quickly told them that flash photography is NOT allowed on rides because it ruins the effects for everyone else and blinds people!!! The camera got put away quickly. /QUOTE]

I am so going to keep this in mind next week!! :lmao:

Sorry, I don't buy the excuses. Went the first time back in the 70s as a kid and knoew not to take flash pictures in the attractions.

Didn't need a CM or sign to tell me, just a little common sense that sudden flashes woudl be rude and distracting to others.
Um, I've been going more or less since the park opened as well. Announcements about not taking flash photos have ALWAYS been part of the WDW experience. Indeed, once upon a time there were many MORE live CM's actively explaining the ruels to guests. I'm pretty sure the announcement in the HM has alway sbeen there - that the ghosts won't appear if you flash.

I think one thing to consider though is that cameras in the 70's were not nearly as good as the ones we have today. Also, since they used real film, you paid for every shot to be developed. I recall CM's at some attractions warning guests that it wouldn't be WORTH taking a photo, because they woudln't come out, so guests should not waste their film. I also recall that there were frequent announcements that there were several locations where guests could buy both postcards and slides. I recall the display cases of the strips of slides very well. Also, kids could buy Viewfinder disks, but those weren't necessarily of the rides.

My family actually HAS some of those slides still...:) They were, and are - a treasured item.

Now as for guests having more common sense and manners back then, that I agree was true.

Flash Photography on Rides = No!

Anyone ever had someone around them during Mickey's Philharmagic or Star Tours attempt to take flash Photos? I have! Oh boy they paid the price of embarrassment after I was done with them.

On our most recent trip, while riding POTC, we had 6 cameras total (of course, with flash) going off just about every 2 seconds in our boat. My father-in-law eventually said something to the two that were in front of us, but they ignored it and just kept on snapping.

If I'm the only one on a boat, and the boats in front of me and behind me are empty, I see nothing wrong with taking flash pictures. I'm not bothering anyone, and it's certainly not bothering me. Pirates of the Caribbean is my favorite ride, and I like to have pictures of the details of the ride. So, yes, if I'm not bothering anyone, I'm going to take as many flash pictures as I want. :rolleyes1

Worth a shot. If enough people complained that might improve the situation.

Why shouldn't you? :confused3 If you were one of those people who argue, "Nobody complaining, so I can be rude," I'd disagree, but since you specify a situation where no one else is there, go ahead and take flash photos. I might ask, myself, because some museums I've been in have forbidden flash photos for reasons I've never figured out, but I'm fairly certain the rule at Disney is for the benefit of other people on the ride.

If I have that problem of people going bananas with their flashes on my AUG trip, I will ask to re-ride, we are bringing a first timer and I want her trip to be amazing. She just turned 18 and is my son's girlfriend and I am bringing him and her to Disney.
As for the idea of telling people to ride it late at night or during EMH , SHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh NOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo...lol..that's the only chance I have for a FLASH FREE ride! lol.......;)

Hi! If you do ask to re-ride, please come back & post how it went. We're not going til Sept. so I'm interested to see what happens if you ask to re-ride.

I'm going to try that next time I get pulled over for speeding......but officer, I thought it was a 55mph zone!

Most speed zones are accurately marked with signage - there is not enough signage for the no flash photography rule as well as the announcements are not always effective.

See, this is the problem with these threads in general, why did you need to embarass them so bad? Between flashing pictures in peoples faces, threatening with squirt guns, and embarassing people... you want to know what I think? That many people on here feel that if someone is rude to them first, they have the right to be just as rude if not more rude to that person. Why do people feel the right to possibly ruin someone's vacation because of a flash picture?? I guess I just don't understand and I never will!!

And as far as the sezure thing, I totally understand that, ok - but you flashing a photo in someone else's face - what if THEY had a seizure problem that you were unaware of???????????? So you trying to teach them a lesson could in fact harm them more than you think.

So that makes it ok? Why? What if I don't notice the speed signs, will that work if I tell the officer I didn't see/pay attention to them?

Freepixie, I was joking about the flash in someone's face in retaliation. However I will vocalize how they shoudlnt be doing that and God help them if my husband were with me and they didn't stop. My husband's health and others unseen health issues come first over someone's goofy pic of POTC that isn't going to come out anyways cause flashes only light up a few feet.So if people choose to keep doing it after I ask them to stop? I will make comments to them.I'm sorry if they don't stop then they are the ones who have issues. The rules have been around forever and people pretending they don't exist or they "didn't know" when it's common sense?
That is just ignorant.

You're a nice person-most of these dopes who take flash pictures on rides are not.You shouldn't feel like to have to justify your aggravation with people breaking the rule..most know about it, they just choose not to follow it. At that point, I don't care if they're embarrassed or not. They SHOULD be embarrassed-stupid behavior has consequences.:confused3:sad2:

And I was not joking about using the flash in the face method, BTW.;)
