When Did they Change the Pirate?

We just got back last week from a combo cruise/WDW vacation. When we went on Pirates of the Caribbean (always our first ride in the MK) all 6 of us noticed that the head on the pirate (who swings his hairy leg over the boats) was switched with the pirate sitting to your right.

When did this happen and does anyone know why? Sorry if this has been covered before. I did a search and didn't find anything..

Well, I'm not sure when it happened, but I would NEVER have noticed that because I'm always staring at his gross dirty foot! I don't think I've EVER looked at his face before When I was little I always swore that mud was going to drip on me and I blame him for my foot phobia!

I noticed, too, that his face was different! But didn't see that his old face was on another body nearby. Would love to know also if there was any reasoning...

I remember this from our trip in January!
One day the head was of a "spanish" looking pirate.
A different day it had the head of someone who looked like "Niles" from Frasier!!
Neither time was it the "original" pirate. I had forgotten all about this.

sounds like there might be some funny Imagineers lurking about. Now I'll be carefully examining his FACE everytime we ride on our upcoming trip!

That's funny...I actually thought I noticed the same thing but was not sure. I noticed it back in May of 05 so it had to of been before that.

Do you mean 2004? If so, wow! I'm surprsied that this has not been talked about much (or at all) since that was a year ago.

Anyone going soon, see if you can find an old picture of it someplace, maybe even a postcard and you will see the difference. The guy whose head was on the hairy leg guy is now swilling rum with the pigs.

It was mentioned on DIS a few weeks ago. I noticed it back in 2/05, but thought I was just confussed...but I wasn't, others noticed the same thing, too.
