Took DD shopping for new clothes yesterday.

She got

2 jeans
3 shorts
1 sweatpants
1 pair capris
2 shirts
2 t-shirts
1 tanktop
1 sweatshirt

Total = $360.00!!!!!!

I doubt that my mom spent that much on back to school clothes for me and if she did I'm sure I got way more than that. We didn't even get shoes yet! :scared1:

When did clothes get so expensive!?!?!?!

That's about $27 for each piece of clothing. I'm glad I have boys that wear $12 jeans and shorts!

I think it all depends on what store(s) you shop at. I refuse to shop at the stores with the $$$$ prices. I really don't care if that's the style. Old Navy has jeans for $10 and that's find by me :-) Of course, your budget maybe a lot higher than mine. I just can't afford that.

I love uniforms! 3 tops, 3 pairs of shorts, white socks and a pair of sneakers. That will keep me until mid-October when I get 3 jumpers, 3 blouses, 3 pairs of tights and blue dress shoes. Oh yeah, and the shorts still fit from last year so we're good to go!!! :thumbsup2

girls clothes are always more expensive I think.

We just hit the jackpot at JC Penney this weekend for my DS11.5. Their clearance on tshirts for boys was incredible. We got him 7 shirts for $4.99 each, plus 4 pairs of jeans between $19.99 and $22.99 each.

We also had the coupons for $15.00 off of &75 and $10.00 off of $50.00 which helped too.

This year does seem really bad to me!

My daughter grew an inch, so pretty much needs all new clothes, plus she was "emo" last year and now wants to dress in more feminine clothes, so we don't have ANYthing from last year's closet.

I think I'm going to do what I did last year. Shop the week AFTER school starts and see what goes on clearance. We made out like a bandit doing that last year. I did get her a couple of tops for her first week back, but that's it.

I had better luck earlier in the summer- buying on sale ect. friends and family sales.
My dd I spent around $300 but got TONS of stuff. 7 pants, 5 shirts(long sleeved tees) 2 tanks, 3 sweatshirts 4 skirts, leggings, scarves ect.

Dd13 went to the mall with her gf's yesterday, and spent $100 on 2 pairs of jeans, 3 tshirts, and the jeans were bogo 1/2 off (Deliahs, AE, Pacsun). I usually wait until everything goes on sale, since they're still wearing summer clothes for the first couple of months.

Me too. A decent clothing retailer here was advertising the other week:
- 3 polos for $4 (100% cotton!)
- school trousers for $5
- school jumper for $4 (100% cotton!)
- school skirt for $5
That means that, even if your kids had to have clean skirt/trousers and jumper every single day of the week, you could get the lot for $53!

I did my back to school shopping. It consisted of a new pair of smart black flats - $25 (down from $90) -, a new tailored dress ($40) and a new pair of heels - $15 (down from $65). The heels are purple! The whole lot was $80 and the shoes are all leather (the dress is cotton/polyester).

I don't think I've ever bought a single item for work that cost me more than $40: I get EVERYTHING on sale and from good shops, and I buy classic styles that can be easily jazzed up (e.g. tie a scarf around a dress as a belt). I still have trousers and skirts and dresses from 6 years ago!

I bought mostly everything on sale but one pair of jeans and one pair of shorts. They were $60 and $40. :scared1: I was happy to buy shorts that didn't show her butt cheeks.

This is DD's first year of HS so I really wanted her to have the clothes she wanted. We actually agreed on most of them. That in itself is shocking! lol

When the weather turns cooler we will do it all over again. Yay...not!

I shop sales and clearance, and I didn't have to spend much at all. My 12 yo likes Aeropostale, and I got some great deals. Jeans came out to $12.50/pair, t-shirts were $5.99, and hoodies $17.

Uniforms can get pretty expensive as well. DS7 goes to a private school and we spent a couple of hundred dollars for everything he needed (not including shoes - getting that either this week or next). In the past, he has had hand-me-downs from friends of ours, so we really didn't need to spend much. This year, since DS7 has gained weight and is now into a husky size, we had to but him everything.

His school has a logo, so we have to go to the uniform store that the school uses. We bought him 2 sweatpants, 3 gym shirts, 2 polo shirts, 2 or 3 gym shorts and 3 size 28" waist navy pants. His white dress shirts we bought from outside.

We started getting his clothes 2 days after school ended back in June and finished in July. I'm so glad it's out of the way!

All depends where you shop. DD12 got 3 pr jeans at Old Navy for $19 each during their sale last week (kids were only $10), bought a few tops at Target and Sears, a jean skirt (holes and all :scared1:)at Aeropostle, splurged on $40 Converse sneakers, and we picked up underwear, bras, socks, and camisoles at Walmart. She also got jean capris and a nicer top at Macys, both at 60% off. I think we spent a total of $210 and then another $30 on supplies.

On other hand, she has a friend who did all her shopping at Hollister, Aeropostle, Gap and other more expensive stores, not to mention $80 for sneakers at Journey. Her total was more like $500.

That would NEVER happen in my house. That is what part-time jobs are for, to supplement the budget I set for school clothes:thumbsup2

My DD12 has discovered, to my dismay, that other stores besides WalMart and Target sell clothes - lol. We actually buy most things at Justice now; they just had a 40% off everything sale, but I did get some jeans at Aeropostle when they had a BOGO sale, and they had their shirts marked down to $4.99, so she got four. :goodvibes

Just watch for sales and you can let your kids have the names they want for the price you want to pay. :thumbsup2

Where are you shopping? My 11 year old DD gets clothes from Children's Place and Target (on sale) and we spend a fraction of what you spent.

We shopped at Holister, American Eagle and Abercrombie. She doesn't like Aeropostle clothes anymore. :confused3

Well there's your problem ;) School clothes didn't get expensive, your daughter's taste did!

Have you tried giving her a budget and seeing how that impacts which brands she likes?

Luckily my son is still in the same size jeans he has been wearing for the last 2 years. He got several pairs for Christmas and they fit perfect now. I also found when we moved that he has a ton of shirts, both long and short sleeves. He got a new pair of tennis shoes after school that he barely wears and he is good to go. :) I didn't have to buy any clothes...supplies are another story. The list grows and grows every year!

Thankfully DD15 is not into name brands. She likes them IF she can get them on clearance or at Plato's Closet.

And that's why you spend so much. How old is she? When I was a teen if I wanted the name brand stuff I bought it myself.
