I remember in the early days of the GF that Narcoosee's was open for lunch. I'm thinking this stopped during the mid '90s. When did this stop and why? Was the lunch menu very different from the dinner?

I think I remember seeing gator on the menu once.

Don't recall seeing gator on their menu (but I do remember seeing it on the Coral Reef menu in 1997 or so).

At any rate, I want to think Narcooses stopped serving lunch around 1997. I just don't think they did the business to justify keeping it opened.

I agree that Narcoossee's stopped serving lunch around 1997 or 1998. The gator was actually a gator spread for the different types of breads that they used to give you prior to the arrival of the sour dough. It was when the menu got a little weird, departing from seafood (before it changed back). We used to enjoy eating lunch here and loved the gator (the gator sausage appetizer at the Coral Reef was delicious too).

They did offer gator tail as an appetizer with ipswich clams for $6.95 on an old menu we have...no ides why as we never collect menu! On the same menu, Florida Gator Steak is listed as an entree for $19.95. This was a dinner menu.

I too remember the gator butter which was offered with two other types for a time and then later there were just two I think.

I miss Narcoossee's for lunch and think Anne's guess is about right. And I think as more parks and resorts were added, there just wasn't enough lunch business to support Narcoossee's and GFC.
