When Did I get Voted Off of Skinny Island #2: Castaway's Land Ho!!!!

Good Monday morning everyone!! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I know I did. Very restful (including 14 hours of sleep on Friday night.) I must have been exhausted but, it was a loooong summer and then vacation right on top of it. I am feeling almost human again.

I am +2 for the week. And too be honest, I'm :cool1:. This is my first offical weigh in since July and given the stress eating I did in August and September and the Disney vacation where I ate what I wanted, I'll take a 2 pound gain. Now, it's time to get back at it and make the next goal!

Hello castaways!

It's been probably about a month since I've posted over here, so I"m not even going to try to catch up, but I wanted to come say hello and let you all know what's been going on in my life.

For starters I think I mentioned to you all that over the summer we discovered I had a partially collapsed disc and two eroded vertebrae in my lower back. Well, I've now had an MRI, disc aspiration, and CT myelogram, and it's not good. I've met with numerous doctors and they said there's nothing pain management can do; pretty much my only option is to do a single level fusion there at L2-L3. I go to my doctor Wednesday to schedule, hopefully for right after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the level of deterioration means that I'll have to skip some of the more vigorous rides at Disney World.

So b/c of that, I've been able to do very little exercise. I'm not logging my food, but trying to make smart choices and eat sensible portions. I'm hoping to pick up on both again within a month or two after my surgery, once I get through the initial phase of recovery.

Otherwise, I've been really busy planning thinks. DD's birthday party was last weekend (wanted to do it before our trip, but not overlap with Halloween next weekend), and our trip to WDW for DD's third birthday is only 12 days away! I've been making lists left and right, and hope to start packing over the weekend. We were SUPPOSED to be going to a church retreat, and DD is going to spend the weekend with her uncle, but our flat-screen TV went out yesterday, so we ended up dropping a BIG chunk of money to replace it. So now no retreat, and no video camera before the trip. Throw in the fact that DD and I both had to go to the local walk-in clinic tonight (both of us have strep throat) and we're just a big ball of fun!

Anyway (now that my feverish self has just thrown a little pity party) just wanted to formally say that I'm not going to be around for awhile. If any of you are on FB, feel free to look for me there (Elizabeth Matherne). Just tell me that you're from Skinny Island in the friend request! Congrats to all of you who are losing or maintaining, and I look forward to rejoining you all in a couple of months!

Morning all!

I am back and I did not check here at all for the whole time I was gone. Explain more of that later but just wanted to let you all know I will clear my inbox from any weights sent minus yesterday. I am just going to post this week and move forward. No time to go back and do 2 weeks worth plus this one.

Miss you all. Heading to WW today or tom (Carsyn might join and if so - will probably start back at a local one and need to look up times) but I think I gained less than 4 pounds. That was yesterday after flying so we shall see what todays damage shows.

Miss you all - can't wait to catch up!:lovestruc

Hooray, Dawn's back!!!

:cool1::yay::woohoo::dance3::cheer2::banana:

Lizzy, so sorry to hear about all the yucky stuff going on in your life.

Sending you :hug::hug::hug:.

Glad you had a great weekend (and weigh in) Stacy.

Barb, hooray for the lowest number in 20 years!! That's so exciting. :cheer2:

Had another NSV yesterday (they're amazingly easy to find once you really start looking for them):

I was doing :laundy: and started tidying my drawers a little at the same time and came across some undies that I had purchased loooooong ago and tucked away for the time when I would be able to fit into them. I've been complaining to DH for a month about the fact that mine were all ill fitting and loose and droopy but unwilling to buy more when they too would be ill fitting before too long. So I found these ones still in their packaging and got really excited because they fit slightly snug and can be worn for a bit before beginning to be too big!!:banana:

On a related note, I then tried on all my pantyhose and had to get rid of several pairs and I opened two new packages that I now fit within the weight category of (bought them too small and now they fit!!) :cheer2::cheer2:

Emboldened by such happy discoveries, I did my measurements again and found that though I was the still the same in bust and hip measurements, I had gone down another inch in the waist!! :dance3:

I went shopping again!!!

And I'm definitely blaming Barb this time.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I thought I'd run into Reitman's and check out the size 15 stuff...

you know, just to get a feel for how far away I am from that size. I'm so excited about 15 because it's their largest regular size and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to being out of the plus sizes.

And they were having a sale!!!

Take an extra 20% off of their lowest ticketed price.

So I thought, if I find a pair of jeans that fit (regardless of the size), I'm going to get a pair. My jeans are all too baggy and they slip down and I HATE hiking them up all the time, so that was my plan.

Well I tried on TONS of stuff...all in size 15 and...

IT ALL FIT!!

So, then I had to make some tough decisions, cause I couldn't buy out the store (so tempting!!) and here is what I came home with...

I didn't really need any more skirts, but I just couldn't resist this size 15 and the fooler sweater will go with several of my other ones also. The top came in other colours but unfortunately they didn't have any left in my size.
015.jpg

Here's the jeans and the sweater top that I got from Ricki's the last time for $4.99. The jeans muffin top me a little bit so I'm going to wait a few weeks before wearing them in the hopes that I shrink a little bit between now and then.
017.jpg

It's a bit hard to tell, but these pants have a pin stripe to them. They are so comfortable it's like wearing my jammies!! The top comes in several colours (as you will see) and it also EXTREMELY comfortable.
020-1.jpg

These pants are similar to the ones above and the top is the same, just a different colour. I also got this top in navy, shown below and tan (not pictured.) My photographer could not be torn away from the XBox for any more photos so DH had to finish up for me.
059.jpg

These dress pants were sooooo slimming. I couldn't stop staring at myself in the mirror cause I couldn't believe I looked that thin!! The clerk brought me these to try on and I was so thrilled that she had found something so AWESOME that I had obviously missed!!
061.jpg

That's all for now folks!! But I have to admit...I was so tempted to take all of my plus size Reitman's items and triumphantly toss them into the donation bag. I restrained myself (since some of them still have tags on them and some DO still fit properly) but I'm only waiting about 2 weeks before I begin thinning the herd!!!

Hooray for regular sizes!!

:cool1::banana::dance3::yay::woohoo::cheer2:

JULIE!!! Way to go girl! :cheer2::cheer2:
YOU LOOK AWESOME!!!

I'm getting by with my few things that are fitting properly. That's the hard part about losing weight - you have to spend all this money on new clothes!! I need a bigger budget (for so many things!)!
Lizzy - I'm sorry you are having to go through the pain and more surgery. Prayers that things go well and improve!! Glad you still get to enjoy WDW some!!
Stacy - I have been conspicuously absent for a bit as well - I think I need to at least come and read to keep my head in this weight loss journey a bit longer! Hang in there - we are all in this together!
Barb - WOO HOO for your lowest weight in 20 years!!! You ROCK!!
Welcome Back Dawn!!! I hope you had a great trip and the kids survived at home!

I am sure I missed all the posts yesterday (and for a while before that!) - I totally forgot about weighing in. But this morning, I am at
+/- 0
I will gladly take that! I seem to gain/lose the same two pounds lately. I need to make a bigger effort on exercise and just get down those last 5 that I really want to lose!! 10 would be great, but I don't care that much. I'm happy with 5 more!

I'm back again. I really missed you guys. I've been having a really hard time getting back into the swing of things after vacation.

Just a quick drive by post (lunchtime at work) to log in my weight. I'm +2.4 from my last weigh in. Not bad after vacation (and the unending eating that has occurred since we've been home).

I really need to get back on track and start logging my food. So far today:

B - Raisin Bran w/ff milk
L - 1/2 Pulled Pork sandwich w/ sweet potato fries, yogurt and fiber one bar
(see the unrestrained eating is still continuing).

I think I need to give myself a mini-goal. I had wanted to lose weight for vacation and now that is over, I don't have the willpower to pass up the candy and goodies around. I'm committing to coming back tonight to let you all know what that goal is and get my mojo back.

Evening!

I haven't felt good the last couple days so I'm just now posting what I ate yesterday.

brkfst - yogurt, banana, coffee w/creamer
lunch - deli turkey (3 pieces), 5 crackers w/laughing cow wedge
dinner - baked potato, roasted broccoli
dessert - skinny cow ice cream sammie
misc eating - grabbed a few chips & goldfish

points 20
exercise - ran 4 miles

oct 25 done
veggies done

today
brkfst - banana, coffee w/creamer
snack - 1/2c cottage cheese
lunch - 3 pieces deli turkey, 5 crackers w/laughing cow wedge, roasted broccoli
dinner - chinese (mixed veggies w/tofu), 1/2c steamed white rice, few crunchy noodle thingies

I was REALLY good at the chinese restaurant, I only ate 1 serving of my meal, & brought the rest home. I'm guessing I can eat two more meals off it. The old me would've eaten the whole thing, plus all of everyone else's leftovers. I'm pretty proud of myself. WW says that what I ate was only 7 points, I'm going to figure in more b/c I have a hard time believing it was so few points. KWIM???

points total for today 22 (even if it wasn't)

oct 26 done
veggies done

exercise - swam 2000 meters in 45 minutes.

Ok, I'm so happy I actually made it back to the site!

Like I said I need to find something new to motivate me to get back on the raft towards skinny island. Well, I may have a big one. In 2012 I will be turning a milestone age. YUP the BIG 5-0. I told Jim that I wanted to cruise on the new Fantasy since it is coming out that year and what better way to celebrate. Normally I'm the one to hold back on spending that much cash for just the two of us (no idea how much it will be, but I'm certain it won't be cheap) so he was all for it. Thinking about it now I'm leaning more towards taking one of the Alaska cruises instead of the Fantasy just because we aren't much in for the beach and since we both would like to visit Vancouver again. I guess we'll just have to wait to see what the itineraires look like when they finally come out. BUT I want to be down a couple of sizes before that happens. I mean wouldn't it be fantastic to weigh less at 50 than I did at 21?

Now I just have to get my brain to realize my plans and stop self sabatoging my efforts.

Finishing off my food log:
Dinner - Mu Shu pork

Tomorrow is another day and one in which I will log back into SparkPeople and get back to tracking with calories!

Wow some gret posts over the weekend. I had to unexpectedly had to run out of town for Mon/Tues. We are home now, 1400 miles later and very tired but home safe and sound. Needless to say I missed weigh in again this week!:confused3 I am still on the raft, maybe one leg is dangling in the water but I am still floating. I will weigh in next week for sure since it has been about a month since I have officially weighed in and I used to be so religious about it.

I did however have a great NSV. Hubby found me 45 minutes of traveling time that I could run into JC Penney and see about getting some new jeans (boy was he generous - 45 min wow :lmao:) as he was sick and tired of watching me hike them up all the time and the ones I was wearing I had actually taken in quickly with my sewing machine. Anyways I found out that I am down 2 sizes in tops (thought it was only 1 - so most of the new things that I bought recently were really still too big) and 1 size in pants. It has taken me a while but I am learning how to tell if clothes fit or not.

Wow you guys! I am so excited for all of you who are buying smaller clothes. That definately earned some of these: :cool1::banana::woohoo::worship:

I have a question for all of you. If you have ever fallen off the excercise wagon, how did you get back on? I was doing so great in the sprin and early summer but I simply got too busy. I mean, when you are literally working 19 hour days, something has to give. Now, however, work is back to normal but I can't get back to the gym. Every day I say "Gym tonight after work" and I feel excited but by the time I get home, I have 14 reasons I can't go. Now, my mind says "Well, it's Wednesday. You know you can't work out Thursday or Friday because of events so you might as well wait until next week." Help!!

Jane: Glad you're back and so happy you've found a fun and exciting way to celebrate you birthday AND motivate yourself to lose that last little bit of weight! I'm hoping to weigh less at 36 (Dec 4, 2011) than I did at 21 so I'll jog along with you there, if you don't mind!! :thumbsup2

Heather: Great NSV!! Two sizes in tops!! :woohoo::woohoo:

Isn't it great when shopping for clothes starts becoming fun again??

Stacy: I just set a really low goal (like 20 mins, three times a week) and then after 3 weeks (they say it takes three weeks to establish a habit) I start increasing time and frequency at that point.

I find if I try and jump right back into it where I left off it never happens. But 20 mins three times a week is something that requires minimal effort so I know I can bang that out easily. Then, once the pattern has been established, trying to talk myself into going longer or more often is an easy job.

HTH!!

I also have a question about exercise - when do you guys find is the best time to exercise that you can stick to? I know this is probably different for everyone, just curious how you do it.

I always tell myself that I want to get up and do it in the morning to get it out of the way, but I am not a morning person, so I have a hard time sticking to that. I drop the kids off at school and get home around 4:00 each day, so I definately have time in the evenings, it's just making myself do it.

We were having exercise classes at church every Tuesday and Thursday, and I was enjoying that (as much as you can enjoy exercise), but this is the final week of that :sad1:, so I'm going to have to try someting different. We met there from 7-8 which worked out pretty good on nights the kids weren't running anywhere during that time. I came home and showered after class and was then done for the night, but I just don't think I'll be as apt to stick to that routine at home. For one thing, the tv's that I could use to exercise in front of usually have someone watching during the evenings and I'm sure not going to do it with someone sitting there watchiing me :scared1:!

I might try a few evenings of just doing it when I get home in the afternoon. DH is usually not home yet, so I could use the upstairs tv and be done and cleaned up by 5:15 or so. I have DVRed some zumbas that were on tv, so I might try that for awhile and see how it goes.

Anyway, lots of rambling, but just wondering when everyone else fits their exercise in.

I'm a stay at home mom so I do mine usually in the 11 o'clock hour, right before lunch (just finished in fact) but on the days when the folks are home (holidays and Saturdays) I just tell them to clear out of the living room and let 'er rip.

I was self conscious in the beginning but they don't watch me (not exciting enough I guess :lmao:) so I gave up caring about that. My kids are 5 and 7 so I figure the best way to teach them about the importance of exercise is to just set the example. We negotiate over breakfast when I am going to get the tv (it varies widely) and then I give them the choice of joining me (they never do :sad2:) or doing something else somewhere else in the house. Once I'm done, the tv is theirs again!!

I think your idea of doing it in front of the upstairs tv before DH gets home sounds like the best idea for your zumba workout.

You could also walk. You could do that at night and wouldn't need the tv nor have anyone watching you.

HTH!!!

As a 54 yr old that just lost 30 pounds and got to a size 32 waist I am hear to tell all the 50+ folks out there - you can do it and it feels great to be back in the same size I wore in the Vietnam war era 30 years ago - don't give up and don't let setbacks derail you - get up the next day and get back on track - good luck to all

Good Monday morning everyone!! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I know I did. Very restful (including 14 hours of sleep on Friday night.) I must have been exhausted but, it was a loooong summer and then vacation right on top of it. I am feeling almost human again.

Next time you go shopping, Take Me With You!!! I'm sooooo jealous!

I'm aiming for Christmas at this point. I'd like to lose just 9 little pounds by then. I would feel so much better and could spoil myself with a new outfit! I'm getting very jealous of a certain someone and all their new clothes.

Anyway, lots of rambling, but just wondering when everyone else fits their exercise in.

I've been walking in the evening after work. Just enough time in between to throw some dinner on for the family and then out the door. It only works when I have my sister going with me. It's too easy to bow out when she isn't around (like this week, she's on another business trip ). So, for me it isn't time as much as having a partner to Make Me Go!!!

My replies were getting long, so I thought I'd post seperately about Emily's visit to the Retina Specialist today. Doesn't it just figure my hours researching Macular Holes, and she doesn't have one. :headache: That's what I get for jumping the gun and not waiting for confirmation from the specialist.
Anyway, she actually has a condition called Ocular Histoplasmosis Syndrome. Histoplasmosis is a disease that is very common in this part of the US, and generally doesn't cause anything worse than flu-like symptoms. But, in a rare few cases, it spreads to the eye, and Emily is one of the unlucky ones. It causes spots on the eye and these spots can spontanteously start growing unhealthy blood vessels that leak. This causes scaring and vision loss.
There is no way of knowing when she was exposed to Histo, it could have been years ago. But, she has vessels growing behind her retina/macula and they are leaking. This is what has caused her current vision loss.
At this point they are going to treat the leaky vessels with a cold laser surgery that should essentially burn them closed. The surgery is scheduled for Nov. 12. It may take repeated procedures, but it usually works. It doesn't sound like it will bring back the vision she has already lost, but it will prevent it from getting worse. We'll just have to see, the doctor said it wasn't impossible that she'd get some vision back. I guess there is no way to know until they stop the leak.
The treatment for this is "easier" than the treatment for a macular hole (which had a very uncomfortable and lengthy recovery time). But, since she has spots on both eyes, it also means that these flare ups could happen at any time in either eye throughout her life. So, she'll have to monitor her vision closely to try to prevent flare ups from damaging her "good eye" and to keep the "bad eye" from getting worse.
I'm still learning alot about this, but that's what I understand so far. Not exactly great news, but we're hoping for the best and will stay on top of things from now.

I have read the past pages since I left and the bad is we had a dead thread for a bit but the good is that saved me a ton of reading!!! :lmao:

There were some very funny quotes and sayings and I love the idea of having a list of things NSB that you are proud of!!! (Not scale based right?)

So much has happened since I got back and I am shoving myself at WW tom and Carsyn is joining me. She went jeans shopping the other day and called me and asked if she can join with me. That is huge for her and I am excited to have her with me in this journey. I know I am up since I left but the only way back down is facing the music and moving on.

The trip was good, we changed the house we will be renting for the wedding and I have tried more cake and frosting than I ever want to again.

That being said...I need to get my @rse in FF pronto. Wedding dress shopping by next spring. For those who have had a wedding dress...how close to the date can I push finding one?

Julie - you need to post some side by side pics of you now and you when you started...your legs are looking shapely in those skirts and that tummy is flatter than ever!!!

All of us adrift in the sea of fat globules...lets start doggy paddling like we were Tom Hanks in Castaway and our volleyball just got picked up by wind and is heading away fast and furious!!!

There are some serious things to look forward too..including a cruise for two I hear!! Nothing like a suitcase of new nighties to spice up a cruise! pirate:

This week has been just brutal. Getting caught up with house cleaning and kids...Carsyn and Baylor had eye doc appt's and Treyner is changing his major. I need to get back to devoting myself to some me time and walk again and track again.

Glad to hear also that Emily's eye diagnosis is better than you thought and prayers for a speedy recovery to her.

Lizzy - will find you on FB...we are all thinking of you!!!

As far as weigh in's...It does not matter to me if you guys switch it to Fridays...just send me the info by Monday. I will start going to WW on sat probably since it is the best time for me and Carsyn together and so I will do weigh in's with that weight as well.

Ok - need to get more work done. Will start my tracking here tom again.

I need the accountability as much as ever!!!

Alright Dawn. I'm going to attempt the side by side comparison.

The before pics are from Disney last April (approx 35 pounds ago) and the after pics are my most recent ones from last Tuesday.

The calves:

Okay, this before picture seriously makes me think of the Fat Albert song/sound effect. :rotfl2: Thank goodness for the after picture!!

I think we need to add to our mantra: Just keep swimming....HAMMER TIME!! Hey, hey hey!!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Julie!!!!! OMGoodness is there a huge difference!!!!!!! I am so elated and I am printing these out for my fridge!!! :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

I did start back to tracking yesterday and had 34 points, 4 of which is into the flex points but wayyyyyyy better than the past week of eating.

I hate that I cannot copy and paste into here what I ate from WW.

I ate yesterday:
Breakfast
1 - Everything Bagel Thin
1 - egg
1 tbsp of Pace 4 cheese Queso
3/4 serving of ground turkey
chopped onion

Lunch
1/4 cup ground turkey taco mix
1 tbsp guac
1 tbsp sour cream
1/4 cup mexican style shredded cheese
1 - 8" flour tortilla
1 tbsp medium taco sauce

Dinner
1 serving hamburger helper 3 cheese with 1 cup milk/2 cups water & turkey meat

Snack
1 sugar cookie
1 chocolate chip cookie
1/2 cup cottage cheese
2 tbsp french's dried onions (so good with cottage cheese)
1 everything bagel thin

So here is the question for you WW folks.

I was lazy and did not separate my food into morning/lunch/dinner/snack. When I went to add my 2nd bagel from my snack last night, I just changed the serving size on the one entered earlier at breakfast to 2.

One bagel is 1 point :lovestruc
Two bagels were 4 points!

Now what the hay bales is that about?

I checked and 3 bagels were 6 points.

So should I be adding all the things together if I eat multiples of the same a day or separating them? I mean that is a 2 point difference I would have not allotted for if they were entered separately.

Ok - thanks for any advice!!!

Weigh in day tom!!!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THE CANDY!!!!!!

Or at least treat yourself to a few pieces so you do not go overboard and find yourself 1/2 asleep in a bowl of wrappers at 3 a.m.!!!! :lmao:
