When Did I get Voted Off of Skinny Island #2: Castaway's Land Ho!!!!

Wow!! Big losses all around.

Jane, Sheree and Aimee....welcome to the LARGE LOSER CLUB!! Anyone with a big loss for this week is automatically pledged in!! Plenty of room in the club because...we're all losing so much weight. :lmao:

I need a "wiping tear from the eye while laughing" smiley cause my jokes are just too darn funny!!:rotfl2:

We never do anything special on labor day weekend (unless you count lazing around at home--we do TONS of that) so dieting isn't tough here.

I went to the grocery store this morning and found SEVERAL NEW WEIGHT WATCHERS 1 POINT SNACKS!! They've had a rotten selection all summer so I was all Eeyore when I hit the aisle ("Well I'll look, but they're not going to have anything I like in stock.") and then I practically did a dance and snatched up SIX boxes of treats and strode away triumphant!

Now if I can just keep DH from eating them and push him towards the frozen ice cream bars instead.
:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

Hey Skinny Islanders!! How is everyone doing?? I looked over the past few pages, and it seems like there are a few people here from when I was last here about a month or so ago. I just wanted to update everyone on what's been going on in my life.

For those who remember, I had a lump in one of my breasts in July, went to health services on my college campus who suggested I get it checked out. I had a ton of papers due at the end of the summer semester and kind of put it out of my mind. About 10 days ago, I finally went to my regular doc to see what he thought. He referred me to get a mammogram. So this past Tuesday I went for an ultrasound (since I'm only 28), and a mammogram. They said it was definitely something that I needed to have biopsied, and they weren't sure what it was. They had an opening the next day, so I had a biopsy scheduled. The people who performed it were great, but they were unable to fully numb the mass and the area, so I was in a TON of pain. OUCH!! Well, they called on Thursday afternoon with the results, and its definitely a cancer. I have an appointment on Tuesday with a surgeon to find out exactly what kind it is and what the next steps are going to be. I know you guys were so supportive for me when I was working on losing weight, and I was just hoping that you would keep me in your thoughts while I was going through all this. Everything still hasn't hit me yet. I still keep thinking I'm talking about someone else.

Note to everyone: Check your ta-tas! It doesn't matter what your age or if you have a family history of the illness. I was 27 when I found the lump, and am 28 now, and have no family history.

Obviously, my focus is going to be on other things during this time. I had every intention on refocusing myself to myself and working on losing weight and dedicating myself to the boards. I apologize to Dawn for not responding the PM's that she sent out earlier in August. August really got away from me! My summer semester ended, I moved back in with my parents (before I knew about my diagnosis), and I was trying to get all the kinks worked out for the fall semester (which I have now had to change). Thank you all for your flexibility and for being supportive through my weight loss journey. When I am healthy and ready, I hope to rejoin everyone on the path to skinny island!

Oh Crabby Amy  The diagnosis is bittersweet, because while I'm sad to hear that it is cancer, I'm glad that you now know what it is and can begin treatments right away. These next few monthis will be difficult, and we will be here for you in whatever capacity you need. When you need to vent, or feel rotten, or get some good news and want to celebrate, please remember to come back and share with us. I know we've never actually met in person, but you are my friend and I will continue to support you whenever you need me.

Congrats to all the "big losers" this week - those are some pretty impressive numbers y'all are posting! I'm so proud of and inspired by each and every one of you! Let's keep the momentum going in the right direction. Remember, Patrick is readying all of our beach-side cabanas for us. ;)

I'm -1.2 this week. Slow but steady progress :thumbsup2 That puts me to 9.4 pounds away from my goal weight.

I have to say.... losing weight is expensive. I have already gone through all of my skinnier-clothes in my closets and they are all either too big  or badly out of style. So I basically need a whole new wardrobe! And that's good (shopping - YAY!) and bad (VERY expensive).

One thing I finally realized was that I would need to buy all new bras. Yep, the undergarments all needed updating. Honestly, I think bra shopping is quite possibly worse than bathing suit shopping. I tried looking online to figure out how to measure myself, but there are about a bazillion different ways and I had no idea which one was right. I finally worked up the guts to hit the Bali store at our outlet mall and sheepishly asked the ladies there to help me measure. I was shocked when she told me my band size went down by one, and my cup size went down by 2! After spending an obscene amount of money on garments that will never be seen (well, maybe by DH ;) ) everything now seems to be in its proper place.

Have a great week everyone!

I am -3 for the week :cool1:

School starts tomorrow:woohoo: DS will be in 7th grade so it *should* be a little easier in the morning :rotfl::laughing:

I am happy for the most part with my weight. I am not where I want to be but, I think I have made it to the sand bar. I know that there is a drop off, but I can touch and my head is not underwater.

Patrick: Awesome achievement and you are a huge motivator to young and old around here! :cool1:
Thanks!

Patrick - what are your maintenace goals? Calories a day, etc? Sorry for being nosey!

I've been sticking with approx. 1500 cals a day, and it's been working so far.

Have a good weekend everyone!!! College football started today! :cheer2: :cheer2:

You'll probably hear more about this from me than you want to! I'm a huge Texas Longhorns Fan! HOOK em!

Hehehe...feel free to talk about football as much as you want, I love NFL, College, and any other types of football. My high school's team just started playing and well, we've lost our first 2 games..but that's okay.

As of this morning I am *drumroll please* -4.8. I was down 4 Sat morning, and a little bit anxious about dinner out, and dinner at the ball game, but it worked out.

Woo!

This island is NOT just about weight loss. It is about the journey to get to the best you and the best you is even now through this struggle.

I will speak for others here and say we could care less if you lose, gain or maintain through this. We just want to support you and lift you up when you need it so please come here to rant and rave and give us the good the bad and the ugly. This thread wants you just as you are and just where you are. There are more important things than being skinny to all of us and depending on the day or the hour, that weight loss mission fluctuates between 1 and 100 in our focus and dedication for a whole variety of reasons. You just have a very big one right now and good for you for putting priorities where they need to be. Not everyone is smart enough to do that. :thumbsup2

I love this...just saying.

Today though...you blew me right out of the water!! :rotfl: You're going to be our next Patrick!! Good for you!!

Uhhh.....wow. I never thought I'd be referenced as for meaning someone who exercised a ton... I kinda like that.
I'm down 2.9 as of this morning.

We're bringing Skinny back. Yeah...
Them other peeps don't know how to act Yeah...
I think you're special, what's in that snack? YEAH...
So turn around and get back on track! Yeah...

:lmao: :lmao:

Congratulations!

And, that makes me laugh.

Remember, Patrick is readying all of our beach-side cabanas for us. ;)

And I'm having to fight off the alligators! Somebody help me get here quick! (lol)

So, I've come to a question.

Would y'all rather hear about my real life, or let me go creativly nuts, and write about a story here on "Skinny Island" I'll do both until I get a general consensus.

Real Life:
School....ugh. However, I've maintained for this week! Literally no change. 185.0 lbs.

Story:

Patrick's Log:
Time: 6:43am
2nd Day here on Skinny Island. My mission for today, get the transmission radio back up and running to my friends out on the raft..so I can be in good contact with them. It doesn't look to hard....

Time: 4:52pm
Day 4 of finally transmitter construction...I guess if you're reading this It's working. The sun's bright. I see a raft floating out on the horizon. I wonder who that could be? Someone's getting close. Hmm, I really wonder, Hey, you get back here!

Time: 4:56pm
Day 4
Stupid crab...thinking the transmitter was a shell. It tried to steal a leg of it. Oh well. I stopped it. The sun's bright. Woo! I can feel the sand in my toes, ah. So nice. Time to start construction on those beach side properties! Hopefully the rain will hold off for a little bit.

Over and out.

(I promise these will get better)

-Talk to y'all later.

Have to weigh in tomorrow morning, was out of town today. It's ok if I don't make the combined list this week, but I do still want to post. See ya'll in the A.M.!

I vote for both (real life and Skinny Island), It's nice to get to know "real people" on here.
BUT, I'm loving your Skinny Island transmissions. I think I might have picked one up on my raft radio just today!

See You Soon!

Hey Patrick !! Good to hear from you! I'm sure school is keeping you busy!

You want to talk football? How about Vikings v. Saints: The Rematch!!!
Favre is back! I'm sure the Saints will be looking to beat up on him again!

Today: (so far)
B: mini bagel w/ nutella
L: Baja Sol Fajita Burrito and chips and salsa, raspberry iced tea (I'm still full 4 hours later!)
S: (I know - I said I was full) handful of gummy bears, about 5 pita chips w/ hummus.
D: - probably not much. I'll update later.

Way to go Losers!!! I love seeing all those MINUS signs! Let's keep it up!
My girlfriend and I went to lunch and afterwards walked briskly about 1.5 miles. I didn't measure it, it might be a little more. It felt so good! I'm going to be "working from home" tomorrow, first day of school for my kids, so I think I'll take a nice long walk with the dog. It's supposed to be chilly, so it will be good walking weather, unless it rains!

Ooooo...

we got us some football fans on this here Skinny Island raft!

WOOT!

I'm more of a college fan as far as fierce fan-ness goes.

But I play fantasy football and love NFL games. Just not as crazy of a fan of just one team as I am when it comes to my Texas boys!

I like the Dallas Cowboys but it's not the same love of a team.

So for instance, when the Saints and Cowboys play, I won't be too hurt (or surprised) if Dallas loses.

Patrick!!!! I love the Skinny Island transmissions! I say do both as well!!!

Just got back from Phoenix this afternoon, so I'll post/PM a weigh in tomorrow. I expect to be a slight bit up, or no change. I ate a *lot* this weekend, but also walked around a fair bit in the 100+ degree heat, so that should even things out a bit.

I believe I'm going to make a mini-TR of my weekend and post it in the 'California and the West' forum in the Disneyland section. It would contain a bit of food porn if anyone is interested. :rotfl: Yeah, I know, that's terrible, but that is a major part of a successful TR if what I've seen on the Dis is any indication! ;)

Lots of big losses this week it seems, congratulations all! :cheer2:

I do want to note that my "loss"* was over two weeks. I certainly didn't lose 6 pounds in the last week!

Plus - I'm not really a football fan. My DH LOVES football and will watch pretty much whatever is on. We generally root for the Vikes and he loves the Steelers. But I'll smack talk with ya about the Vikes vs. the Saints! We want revenge!!! What a way to start the season!

Pretty much skipped dinner. Had a few bites of mac and cheese. Might have some fruit or something later.

This is going to get interesting....football & trash talking! Woo! 2 of my favorite things! And I'm glad to see you won't be crushed when the Cowboys lose......

Yes, an awesome way to start the season...another victory for the Saints.
The dome will be rockin' as usual...and I'm pretty sure on Friday "Favre retires after getting beaten by Saints...says his only reason to come back was that he couldn't stand if he didn't get to play them one more time...."

Also, I'm just glad Drew Brees at least knows if he's going to play again before training camp. And he doesn't change his mind 20 million times.

Okay...I may be getting a little devilish with them...hehehe. WHO DAT? WHO DAT? WHO DAT SAY DEY GONNA STOP TWO DAT!

- Patrick...

P.S. glad y'all are loving the Skinny Island transmissions, pleasure to write them. I'm just hoping whoever gets here next will write them too!

********NOTE: ALL TRASH TALKING IS MEANT TO BE OUT OF FUN, NONE IS INTENDED TO BE HARMFUL IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!********

Don't forget Brees went to high school in Austin.

Just sayin'.

Texas gets some of the credit!

Went to the movies yesterday and finally got my popcorn. Then ran around all night and it was nearly 9pm when we got home, so no dinner. Not the best day, but at least my points were still in line. Looking forward to a better week.

Good morning all! Back to the grind today..ugh. Good day yesterday, did a bunch of yardwork, and my thighs are singing this morning, hopefully my walk will work out the kinks! We also got a swim in, and cooked out at my mom's for dinner. Weird moment last night, was looking in the mirror and had odd wrinkles on my neck. So I start poking and prodding..yup..loose skin. Not the most attractive look right now, am hoping it will tighten up!

Congrats to all the losers!

Patrick- I love the transmissions, and would like to hear about your goings-on as well! :goodvibes: You guys can leave me out of the football talk though, I follow the 'Skins, but I'm not all that hardcore (until they play Dallas!)

Barb- I wish I had that problem with my bras! LOL. So far, my band size has gotten smaller, but no such luck with cup size.

We're going to Hershey Park on the 17th to spend a few days, Piper doesn't know yet, my plan is to wake her up at the usual time and ask if she'd rather go to school or there. My Mom, sis-in-law, and niece are going with us. After Piper's wish trip, we got a "world passport" that includes free admissions to a LOT of amusement parks and such. I'm hoping if the envelopes keep coming we may be able to hit Busch Gardens next month, the passport is only good until March. :goodvibes: I'm thinking while we're in Hershey I may cheat..don't know if I can pass up all that chocolate! If anyone has any tips for the park, let me know! I haven't been there since high school.

Tracking-
Breakfast- Eggbeaters, RF american, and ham on sammie thin.
Lunch- Ham & cheese on sammie thin, salad.
Dinner- Pork tenderloin, apple sauce, mixed veggies.
Snacks- RF oreos, rf choccy ice cream, roast beef & swiss roll ups.
Cals- 1747 (1700-2050)
Exercise- Gardening, water walking.

Sept 6th- Done!

And I'm having to fight off the alligators! Somebody help me get here quick! (lol)

I'm working on joining you there! I hopoe to be helping you with the 'gators soon!

I actually like the Skinny Island transmissions, but I also like hearing about your real-life progress as well. So I vote both!

Ooooo...

we got us some football fans on this here Skinny Island raft!

WOOT!

Yup, add me to the list :thumbsup2 I'm a loooooong-time 49ers fan - Mom grew up in SF, so she passed her love of the team on to me. They've done well during the pre-season and I'm excited for the start of the regular season this weekend! I was really happy to see the Saints win the Super Bowl, but maybe this year the Niners can actually give them some competition.

Of course, living in Austin, we HAVE to like the Longhorns ;)

Barb- I wish I had that problem with my bras! LOL. So far, my band size has gotten smaller, but no such luck with cup size.

I thought the same thing, that cup size hadn't changed at all. Boy was I wrong. If in doubt, go for a fitting. I was shocked at the results.

I don't have any real tips on Hershey - we were in the area in 2007 to visit some friends who live about 5 miles from the park. We only went to the tour/factory thing, not the amusement park. I will say they had something there that was heaven - Reeses PB cups with bananna. I know, I thought they sounded gross too. But DH got some and I tried one. :littleangel: So my only advice is to skip those, because once you eat one you'll want to buy out the store and eat them all.

I think it's so cool that Piper's wish trip extras just keep on coming. That really is an amazing organization and what they do is so special. Busch Gardens is another really great park, so hopefully that one comes for you soon.

Hi Guys!

I am so excited to see the big numbers and small ones and quite frankly...just everyone posting.

The air of success and dedication is contagious!

Hope fully things will get into a rhythm around here now with schedules and routines under way.

It is crazy windy and cold here. Plan on starting the C25K today. Hopefully tonight with Carsyn.

According to my scale I am down a total of 16 pounds from when I started and that should put me over 10 since here.

WW at 10 a.m. so I will use that weigh in like I have been doing to see for sure.

What is your Goal for the rest of the Week?

Mine is to track online everything!!!! I have slacked the last 2 weeks and although done okay - can always do better.

For those hitting goal and maybe a plateau....

Last night I watched on Bravo - Thintervention.

And one thing that struck me between the eyes is the amount of sugar in foods we eat.

The head fitness chick, Jackie, had a mission for everyone to go home and chuck foods they had that had more than 5g of sugar per serving. I am going to try this week to eat only foods that have less than 5g and see what my options are and really see what I might be able to ditch on a regular basis. Fruit obviously has natural sugar but again, added applesauce or canned fruits are so high! 19g in a 4 oz cup of sweetened cinnamon applesauce! :scared1:

Hope that helps.

She also had a guy who admitted eating 2 cookies, to hold 2 cookies in his hand and wearing a calorie counter, run steps until he burned off those cookies. Great visual and after 5 minutes, sweating and swearing, the guy looked at his watch to find out he had not even burned one.

Again, sugar releases chemicals in your brain, like drugs do, that make you crave more and more. The thought is to kick sugars to the curb to help curb your appetite. The doc even said that you would have withdrawls for a few days with headaches etc.

I am a carb addict. No question about it but if I can cut the sugar in my daily routine, and only allow the higher sugar levels a few times a year for holidays, birthdays, vacations etc...#1 I probably will not eat as many as I usually would given the opportunity and again, #2 The daily eating habits I have gained are what led me to this weight. Not Thanksgiving.

Ok - There is all I know! ;) I miss seeing you all here too BTW.

Oh yeah - Bra's - I do know something else.

I was re-fitted at a store called Allure, here in MN. Just 2 weeks ago. They are also in Chicago and who Oprah goes to. (Sheree - they are on Grand in St. Paul.)

I have never had anything like this before.

Been to Bali's. Been to Vicki's. Blah Blah blah.

Always told my band size was getting up there so options were limited. Also, for full figures, they seem to assume you have a ton of b00b mass. Not true. You could stuff a softball on the top of the full cup ones they always tried to fit me in.

So like many here, I avoided it and would just cry trying on bra's.

Then I went to Allure. Best experience ever. The lady spent 45 minutes with just me and after the first measure, she was on the money and now it was just a matter of fit and comfort.

I went from a 44/46 to a 42 and then from a C/D to a DD/E, depending on which one. Going down in band and up in cup made all the difference.

The girls are actually where they are supposed to be and look fan friggin tastic and they had a ton to choose from that were beautiful not just functional. They are also made better, the stretch is not so much it does not fit after 2 wears and my mom and sister went there and have said the same thing. $65 is average cost but those babies are now riding in a Lincoln not a Yugo and I am not adjusting my straps every 2 minutes. My whole shape has changed and I need to go shopping for new clothes because the shirts I have all are huge now.

If anyone wants, I can post the number here and maybe they have other locations or suggestions of quality bra shops in your area.

Good morning everyone!

I’ve taken the day off to burn some PTO days (yup even with the vacation planned in October I need to burn days or I will stop accruing them in January). I was finally able to get a full night sleep last night. And have had a relaxing morning. I’m feeling better, but I’m still having some stomach issues (TMI – everything is going straight through me) so I’m drinking lots and hoping it gets better tomorrow because it will not be fun at work tomorrow.

I didn’t track my food yesterday (once again lots of toast, crackers, etc). I was going to try and hit the gym today, but I think it will be better if I just stay close to home. I’ll probably just try and do some house cleaning and organizing.

Julie – I love being part of the big Large Loser Club (even if it is a fluke). Hopefully once I get back to normal food, I’ll be still in the same range.

Barb – Congratulations on now needing a new wardrobe!!! I had to go and get new undergarments as well and finally went and got measured and fit. Wow, what a difference. I went down in band size, but up in cup size (didn’t realize the cup sizes went up that far) since normal department stores don’t normally stock anything past a DD or DDD. I do have to say that I’m amazed at how much better I look when I’m wearing the right size.

Patrick – I love the stories from Skinny Island! Keep them coming!

Amanda – I’ve never been to Hersey Park, but I’d love to hear all about it. I’d agree that I’d be blowing the diet with all the chocolate as well.

Ok, now getting off my duff and getting this house cleaned and then my office organized!

Talk to you all later!
