When did banking deadlines change from 50%/25%/0% to 100%/0%?

I'm just curious when this changed.

We have been members long enough to remember the old system, and got a little concerned because for the first time we were going to bump into the situation where we're booking after the 50% deadline because we're planning to say at Hilton Head instead of our home resort. Under the old system we would have lost 16 points if we waited until the 7 month point and didn't get the reservation we needed because we called at 8:01 am. With the new system (able to bank 100% until 5 months before end of Use Year - right?) we won't face that problem.

I do not know the exact date. We have been members since 2005 and I know it changed very shortly after we became members.

They were announced in Aug 2007, effective Jan 2008.

The banking deadline is the end of the 8th month following the first day of you use year. For example, the banking deadline for an August use year is the following March 31. You can do it online now, too.

I think it was around 2008 when it was changed from 11/7 months from check-in date vs check-out date. If you were concerned about availability, you called for your first night and called each day to add a night.

There are some here that remember the system previous to that when not all points could be banked, only 50% though it may have changed by the time OKW opened.

I'm confused. I was thinking you had the first eight months of your use year to bank all of your points if you need to. You mean it's more complicated than that?

What you state is the current rule that went effect Jan 2008. Before that time, the rule allowed you to bank up to all of your points by the end of the sixth month of your use year, up to 50% of the points by the end of the ninth month, and 25% by the end of the tenth month (those were cumulative totals, e.g., if you banked 50% of your points by end of 6th month of your use year, you could bank no more thereafter).

I remember the old banking system too. I've rarely had to use it though, we stayed in a constant state of borrowing for many years. I actually banked about half of our 2017 points into 2018 the other day. Did it online and then turned around and made Easter reservations for next year and made sure to use the banked points first in the reservation. Wasn't sure I could get it all done online, but I think I did it correctly.

Oh, ok. Sounds like Disney changed that up for the better. I was actually reconsidering buying in at some point if the previous rule was in effect.

While it was more complicated, I thought the old system a better deal for the members as a whole.

Banking??? What is this banking you speak of? All I know is borrowing :)
Banking is a symptom of Addonitis. When you add on, you get more points than you need right then. So you bank. So next year you go more than you normally would. The following year, you realize you don't have enough points to continue at that pace, so you add on again. Lather Rinse Repeat.

Perhaps, but it really helps us out in this case, where we cannot know whether we will be able to book where we want to stay until after the 6 month point in our Use Year.

In our case, we've already sold our add-on. We're banking because we're taking a year off from our regular visits for a major milestone vacation someplace that Disney doesn't have a DVC resort. :)

I don't think it's a big deal either way, each have the positives and negatives. The advantage under the old system is if you had something happen later in the UY you could potentially bank points because it was a % of the total for all contracts under that master contract. It did make the same UY somewhat more important than it is now.
