Our son's last week of daycare is next week and I was wondering if it is appropriate to buy a gift for the teacher. Kind of a thank-you gift. Did you do this and if so, what did you buy?

i Loved dd's daycare teacher!! I bought her a giftcard to Target as a good bye/thank you present. Dd is now going into middle school, and Miss Tamra is still one of my favorite teachers that Andi has ever had.

I don't think it's ever wrong to let someone know you appreciate them and that you think they did a great job! My guys never went to daycare or kindy (homeschoolers) but unless there's some secret handbook somewhere that dictates otherwise, I say go for it! It's a nice gesture!:goodvibes

We gave our DD's preschool teachers and aides gift cards and notes expressing how much we appreciated them and all the fun things she had done over the year with them. I think they were touched to get a personal note (but the gift card is a good thing, too. :rotfl:)

Me and my son made my sons teacher a small scrap book, we took pictures of all the crafts he done and he held each one, plus pics through out the year, and we presented it to her the last day, she sat and cried her eyes out of course, I think it meant more to her than something bought.

I am a daycare provider and the best gift I have ever been given was a $30 G.C for the Liquour Store.....the little boy is autistic and the mom wrote a note saying to stock up for the headaches her son gives in the new year.....made me smile, Im not a drinker unless on vacation, but it was defnitely a thoughful gift!

DS2 just moved from the baby room to the toddler room at Daycare in July, so I bought the teachers and other pretoddlers cupcakes w/ little graduation caps on them for a "graduation" Celebration in their room. They were so great and I wanted to show my appreciation, but they couldnt accept "gifts/tips" so I did that.

I think it would be nice, especially something with your DS's photo and/or signature. (I love the scrapbook idea!)

I've made bookmarks with DS's picture and a poem about teachers. (You could give that with a gift card to a bookstore.)

One time, a teacher at his preschool was "graduating" to the big school herself to take a position as a kindergarten teacher. We gave her one of those stuffed animals with the tassel hats (made for seniors to autograph to each other) and had all the kids write their names on it.

And DS had one favorite teacher who always said he reminded her of a certain character in a book. We gave her a nice copy of it with his photo glued to the inside cover, and he signed it.

I definitely think it is appropriate to buy a daycare provider a gift as a "Thank You" for taking good care of your child until he or she became old enough for school. I am already planning to buy my son's teacher (he just started kindergarten today) a pair of Mickey ears from WDW when we go next month. :thumbsup2

We bought my son's teacher a plant (this was first grade, he bougt it for her birthday) and 2 years later she still has it, and tells him about it when she sees him.

I have sent Edible Arrangements to the daycare/preschool with a note expressing my thanks for a job well done.

My daughter had spent three years there and when she moved on to kindergarten I wanted something all her teachers could enjoy.

My youngest DD is in her last year of preschool there and I plan on doing the same thing at the end of the year.

The teachers really really loved it!
