When Can You Borrow Points & Book Vacation?

We have two trips planned in 2016 with our first year of DVC. We have a September Use Year, and I'm wondering when we can borrow & book a trip for 2017?

We are using our 2015 Use Year points in May, and our 2016 Use Year points in September. Looking to make another trip in May 2017 by borrowing 2017 Use Year Points and then another trip in September of 2017 by borrowing 2018 Use Year Points?

Am I on the right track with how to borrow points from future Use Years? Thanks!

You can book any trip 11 months in advance and borrow points at that time. So with a September UY, a May 2017 trip falls in your 2016 UY...you can borrow 2017 points to use on that trip when you book in June 2016. A September 2017 trip falls in your 2017 UY so you can book that trip at the 11 month mark in October 2016 and borrow 2018 UY points.

When you book doesn't affect borrowing...the actual date of the trip does and what UY it falls. The easiest way for me is to first figure out what UY my travel will happen and then I know I can use banked points from the previous UY, points for the UY of the trip, and borrow from the UY after the trip when I call to book, starting at 11 months from the date of the trip!

Thanks, your explanation is very helpful! I sure like the flexibility that DVC offers, quite happy with your purchase so far...and we haven't even taken our first trip!

You can always use banked points from the previous year and borrow from the future year based on the year of your trip. If you were able to book something multiple years in the future (Disney Cruises) you can bank from the year prior to you trip and borrow from the year after.

OP. get a spreadsheet together that you understand. Lay out your currently banked points, current year's points, and borrowable points; then plan out your trips for which UY they occur within. Also, start planning out your trips for the next 3 years for future planning purposes.
