When can you borrow 2017 points?

I need to buy more points lol!! But in the meantime, I was wondering when I am able to borrow into 2017. We have an October use year and plan to travel in September of 2016. To take this trip, we are short one single point to stay the week but the points we will be using are in the 2016 use year already(so its borrowing the rest of the 2016 points)but we are short one. When will the system allow us to start borrowing from 2017? Also, I know we have the option to buy a single point....how much is it and can it be done online or do I have to do it over phone with MS? Thanks!!

2017 points can be borrowed for use during your 2016 use year. Since your use year starts Oct 1st those points cannot be used in Sept 2016 (you would still be in your 2015 use year). You can buy up to 24 one time use points for $15 a piece from MS to be used for reservations at 7 months or less. This must be done on the phone not online and can only be used to book a reservation through MS (the points won't show up in your online account). If you are trying to book a home resort reservation (beyond 7 months) you cannot purchase one time use points to do it-you could book 6 days now and if once the seven month window opens if there is availability for the 7th day you could then buy the OTU point and book that additional day (and have MS link the two reservations)

2015 use year - 10/1/15 to 9/30/16
2016 use year - 10/1/16 to 9/30/17
2017 use year - 10/1/17 to 9/30/18

You find what use year your date of stay is in. You can borrow ahead one year. September would be in the 2015 use year, you can borrow 2016.

As others have said, it looks like a September 2016 trip would be in your 2015 use year.

But here's the answer to your original question about when you can borrow from your 2017 use year. Banking can be done as a separate transaction, but borrowing is always done while making a reservation. You can borrow points from your 2017 use year when making a reservation for a trip that will occur in your 2016 use year.

a sept 2016 trip takes place in your 2015 UY.

so you cannot borrow 2017 UY pts for that trip. ever. for stays in your 2015 UY, you can only use banked 2014 UY pts + current 2015 UY pts + borrowed 2016 UY pts.

(and please be careful when traveling at the end of your UY like that as it can be extremely risky if you wind up needing to cancel.)

if your stay was in Oct 2016, it would fall in your 2016 UY - so you could book that stay at your home resort 11 months ahead in Nov 2015...and you could borrow 2017 UY pts at that time (as early as Nov 2015).
