When can you book? Pardon my ignorance...

Okay, here's my question. Let's say you have 200 points coming on 12/07. You currently have 0, having used up all this year's alottment. Can you still book a trip for, say, 12/15/07, at the 11 month mark, using the points you will get on 12/1/07? How does that work? Technically you're booking with no points, but you'll have the points to "spend" when the trip comes. I'm assuming you want to book in your home resort (obviously, the question would be 7 months out for a different resort).

I hope one of you patient owners can help me out.

Yes, you book based on the points you WILL have at the time of the reservation. If you wish to go before Dec 2007, you would BORROW points from your Dec 2007 use year.

Thanks! We're seriously looking into purchasing, but Dh and I are both engineers, so we have tons of questions--some of them are real obscure, but it's important to us to think of EVERYTHING!

It absolutely should be important for you to know the ins and outs of DVC prior to purchasing.

It has been a great purchase for many, many people. But there have been some who purchased who didn't understand the program and were disappointed afterwards.

Ask a lot of questions...by the time you buy, you should know as much about DVC as your Guide. I know I did.

Good luck! :)

Hey, I'm married to an engineer, and we took FOUR YEARS to decide! I might add that he now thinks it is the best thing we ever did and wishes we hadn't wasted those four years. SOOOO, my advice is to get those questions out of the way ASAP so you can enjoy the fun and before another price increase! ;)

I'm completely sold, but it's all on DH for now. He's one of those people--you don't "talk" him into everything, you present the facts and walk away and let him draw his own conclusion. It's too big a $ amount to try to nag someone into, anyway. I'm hoping it takes us less than 4 years, though! Luckily, I've found some great resources here on the DIS, with lots of number crunching and cost-benefit analysis. Hey, if that's what floats DH's boat, who am I to question?

Remember there are no dumb questions. We all started someplace and what better place to get the info. than the Dis!!!! So many informed people here I think we could get almost any question answered.

Hey, I think your DH & mine might be related! Even the part about not posting pictures! I want to show off the kids so bad, but DH says no pics of the kids on the internet-ultimately I admit I agree though-why risk it?
Sorry to get off the subject, we're thinking about buying right now too and after looking at it for a few years ourselves, I think we're finally ready to make the leap!

UPDATE

After all his research, calculations, and analysis, DH didn't say "yes"...He said "HECK YES!!!" :cool1:  :teeth: :Pinkbounc

We agreed that it's not a financial investment, but a vacation investment.

Congratulations on your decision to join. I know it has been one of the best things we have done. We have had many, many great vacations, and I'm sure many more to come.

:Pinkbounc CONGRATULATIONS! :Pinkbounc

Congratulations! I think you hit on the key - a vacation investment; not financial. We have no regrets what so ever. :goodvibes
