So our guide called us back yesterday, and we put down the $500. So now we wait for the papers to come, then we do our thing and send them back. At what point can we call and make our reservations? We are planning to stay at SSR (that'll be home) Dec 3-10, in a 1 bedroom. I've read that's a popular DVC time, will they book up?

You can make ressies as soon as DVC has you in their computer system, not sure but you most likely will have to have your closing first I'd think. Dec.3-10 is an EXTREMELY popular time with DVCer's as it is low point season and the holiday decor and festivities are in full swing...1bdrms are not as hard to obtain from what I understand as compared to the other size villas. As long as you aren't trying for one of the smaller resorts like VWL or BCV's or BWV's too since it's one of the more popluar one's you probably won't have too much problem booking...if you can be flexible, you'll have no trouble at this point I'd think...ya never know though, you may even be able to get one of the smaller DVC's too..but if not, I'm sure you'll get one of the larger DVC resorts and there's always the waitlist if you cannot get your first choice. This particular week is where having that 11mos advantage comes into play. Best of luck and Welcome Home!:)

My experience was as follows - I put down my deposit - my guide called me back the following day with my membership number and I made my reservation for May (borrowing from my Dec UY) that afternoon - and a few days later on the advice of the people here I made my Dec reservation too.

I was surprised how easy and accomodating they were considering the deal at that point wasn't closed - and won't be until June

As Kez250 stated, you do not have to wait until you close. I made ressies In Dec for my first trip home in April, I don't close until 3/31.

It will depend on the terms of your purchase.

If the building mentioned in your contract already has people staying in it, you can make a reservation (subject to availability and the booking windows) as soon as DVC gets your deposit.

If the building/unit mentioned in your documents won't be ready for occupancy prior to December 3, you may not be able to use your SSR points. Generally, you cannot use your points for a visit prior to the time the building is actually available for stays. Even if your building is already "in service", it is possible that you may not be allowed to borrow points (to stay before your first allocation of points is in your account) until after closing. That will depend on your use year.

If you received developer points to use prior to the SSR building going into service, you will be allowed to use those points (subject to availability and booking windows) as soon as DVC has your deposit.

Anyway, my advice is to call your guide and ask your question. First reservations can be tricky when you buy points associated with a resort not completely built out Best not to rely on us as we don't have all the specifics. Those who posted may have different situations than you.

Best wishes -

Carol, interesting info., I did not know that! Our use year will be August, but I don't know if that means our bldg will be done then or what....still learning about all this! I will call our guide soon and ask her.

Thanks all! :)

Of course, I still think your guide is the best source, but based on your posts, the only thing that might be an obstacle to making your reservation for December 3 -10 of this year, is the building "ready" date. As long as it will be open prior to your arrival, you should be able to call for your ressie as soon as Disney gets your deposit.

Hope it works out. Early December is our favorite time to visit - we've been back for that time every year since the first time we went in 1998.
