We are DVC members. We have already booked for a week at SSR for the first week in April. We would like to book two days at Animal Kingdom Lodge (for a regular room) at the end of March. I tried on line, but it keeps bombing out. that is only 9 months away. What's the deal?

you should actually post in DVC section under planning for answers

I don't know why you would post in the DVC forum for questions about regular resorts.

To answer your question, for some reason, it takes Disney forever to release their package pricing and 2008 rates (especially frustrating for those of us who want to book in early 2008). According to the CM I talked to about my January trip (which I have already had to move the dates for because they were already sold out of my room type for one of my nights despite not releasing packages) the 2008 room-only rates should be released sometime this month, but you won't be able to book a package until sometime in August. The best way to get an estimate on cost is simply to add about 10% to the current room rate that you are looking at. They generally come in something close to that. If you have a specific room type in mind, you can book a room-only based on the 2007 rates (although that rate is not guaranteed) and then they will update your cost when the new rates come out and if you want to upgrade to a package just call them in August and they won't hesitate to take more money from you.

I really don't understand why it takes so long to release the 2008 room rates, I mean you would think they could have this figured out so that people booking in January and early February would be able to book a package before their ADR window opens, but if people still come, they have no reason to change now.

Thanks Chasgoose, this is the information I was looking for. We will be booking a room only reservation, so this is helpful.

you realize that AKV will be part of DVC then - so 11 point a night - value to 15 points savannah view sun-thurs - you would need an excellent rate for cash to be a better deal.

now fri/sat at 21 to 30 points - you can probably find a better deal for cash.
