When can someone transfer me his points?

I originally posted on the Mousecellaneous board, but now realize I should have put my question here....sorry for the duplicate but I'm looking for someone in the know...

I'm actually looking at having a transfer IN to my account from a person with a different use year than my own. I understand how the transferred points retain their use year and home resort etc., but I don't quite understand the timing. Just for sake of example, let's say that another DVC member has 500 points coming on July 1, 2009 that I want to transfer IN to my account. At what point during 2009 can I make the transfer IN (I have an April use year if that matters)? Do we need to wait until 7-1-09 for the transfer to take place? Important - I want the points coming in on 7-1-09 because I want the ability to bank them to 2011 - I'm not talking about transferring 7-1-08 points that are already sitting in their account now.

For sake of "simplicity" also assume we are both good with the one transfer per year rule.

I spoke with another DVC member who told me they were able to transfer their next year's points prior to the beginning of their use year, but I just spoke with member services and they told me that the earliest I could transfer in this example would be 7-1-09. However it was also apparent that the guy I spoke to at member services perhaps didn't know everything. It took forever to explain the situation and to get an answer and he did not sound that confident.

Any comments greatly appreciated. Also is there a place we can look up these kinds of details - some sort of "points rule book" for DVC members.

Using your example re member transferring having July 1 2009 UY - - those tranferred points would not be bankable to 2011 UY. But those transferred points ARE BANKABLE INTO 2010 Use Year & if so would then be available for you to utilize for a reservation from July 1 2010 through June 30 2011.

Points transferred to you from another member must be from their current Use Year allotment of points so using your example of a member having a
July 2009 Use Year points to transfer to you - - ' technically ' their 2009 Use Year begins on July 1 which is why CM at MS stated what they did

~however~ if I recall correctly, there have been posts on these boards where members have stated that MS has allowed points to be transferred before the first date of the Use Year provided those transferred in points are not utilized for a reservation that occurs prior to the first date of that Use Year - this apparently, was allowed in order to utilize 11 month Home Resort booking window for those transferred in points to give you an idea of why this scenario was probably given a green light by MS.

So it may be possible. And yes you may have been speaking with a CM who did not have experience with this scenario so you may want to call again to discuss with different CM or supervisor.
