When Can I Book?

I have a booking question.

We have an August use year.

We'll be heading to WDW next summer, using some borrowed points from our August 2013 use year. We'd like to take another trip later in the fall. We'll need to borrow some of our 2014 points for our Fall 2013 trip.

We'd like to book at our home resort for our fall trip. When can I book since I won't technically have any points until August 2013 and I'll be borrowing 2014 points? Can I still book at my 11 month window, or do I need to wait until August to book after I get the rest of my 2013 points?

Your UY doesn't control when you can call, it only determines what points are used for a reservation. For you home resort, you can always call at 11 months in advance of your check-in date. As long as there is availability and you have enough points (using either banked, current and/or borrowed) to cover the reservation, it can be booked.

I'm new to this, but I don't think you can book using borrowed 2014 pounts until after your 2013 UY date kicks in ... i.e. after Aug 2013.

Right now - in your 2012 UY - if/when you try to borrow, it will go against your 2013 UY allotment. So I don't think you can access your 2014 UY allotment until you're into your 2013 UY ...

However, if you have not borrowed all your 2013 UY points, you could book some of your Fall 2013 trip using them and reserve the rest of the time using cash. Then, in Aug 2013, try to re-book the cash dates with borrowed 2014 points ...

But I would call MS - they may be able to do something at their end (i.e. "anticipate" that you'll be able to borrow 2014 UY points after Aug 2013) that the on-line system won't let you do.

Point are used based on when the reservation takes place, not when you reserve it. You can always book 11 month in advance of your check-in date at your home resort regardless of your UY as long as there is availability and you have points available (either banked, current, or by borrowing).

With an August Use Year, your 2013 Use Year runs from 8/1/13 - 7/31/14. You may borrow points from your 2014 Use Year for any trip during those dates and the reservation can be made 11 months prior to travel for your Home Resort.

As explained above, Use Year has nothing to do with when you can make a reservation as that will always be 11 months ahead for your Home Resort. Point may be borrowed from the Use Year following the Use Year of the travel dates.

You should be fine for that fall, 2013 reservation using banked (2012)/current(2013) and borrowed(2014) points. Enjoy!

This is a common misconception with new members. All points are already in your account to use based on the date of stay. There's no waiting for points to load for a use year.
