If I am right about this (and I really don't know if I am), to get the BRP rate, I have to book AT LEAST 60 days out. What if the BRP rates aren't out for July before the 60 day mark?

BRP rates have been "stuck" with a mid-april end date for a while now. If they don't release new dates and it brings you into your 60 day window, than you are out of luck on a BRP rate.

It's a catch 22 - you can book now to have a room and than cancel if BRP comes out. This guarantees you a room where you want to stay. The downside is if too many people book what they want hoping for a discount later, the high occupancy rate may cause a lack of discounts.

Sorry, wish I had better news!

No, that's OK - I appreciate the clarification.

I guess what I should do is just wait until the rates come out. :confused3 Wilderness Lodge is my first choice, but I would certainly stay at the Polynesian if the rates were good or Animal Kingdom Lodge.

My wife wants to stay at the Contemporary. Personally, I don't. All the pics of the rooms I've seen, I'd swear I was staying at the studio where they filmed "A Clockwork Orange". Also, I wouldn't want to stay there unless it was in the Tower Building.

Well i talked to an aaa agent today for wilderness lodge rates and for my family of 4 2 adults and kids ages 10 and 6 for july2-8 we got a rate of $3278.73. they are holding it for 7 days while we make up our mind but we have to put a $200.00 deposit before the 7th day.

That MUST include park admission. Otherwise, you're getting screwed. That's over $468 a night. The 2 adults pay the same as 1 adult, and the children are what, an extra $15 a night? That's got to include park tickets.

A $200 deposit is definetly a package, so we would need to know what is included (# of days and type of ticket, dining, etc.) to give you an honest answer

My trip includes tickets to the parks no hopper passes. woods view and the dining package we are going in july 2-8 2006 ages of guest 33-33-10 and 6.

OK, personally - I don't think that's a good deal at all. Of course, I don't go with the dining plan, so I really can't say if that's worth it or not.

But look at it this way:

6 nights at WL, you could get for $277.50 a night = $1,665.

2 adults/2 children 6 day passs with no hopper = $706.

So, you're basically spending about $1,000 on the dining plan for 4 people, which comes out to $250 per person, or $41 per day.

Again, I don't know what or how much is included in the dining plan, but that breakdown should give you an idea if you're getting a good deal.

Not sure if you're specifically looking for July 4, but if you go just a week later, you could save yourself at least $300 off the room.

That's a good analysis, but I think your math might be off by a very small amount, if the OP's numbers included tax. That's only a marginal difference, but may account for the difference between your $41 number you got for dining plan and the $38/$11 numbers (two adults and one junior/one child) which is what I would have expected from your analysis.

AAA is giving you a $120 off rack rate. Right now that is the only discount available for that time.

Not sure if their's included tax. Mine did. Got the numbers right from Disney's website (tax included.)

Again, I know nothing about the Dining Plan, so I can't say for certain if it's a good deal or not.

I've read in different guides that packages can save you money. I've always found, shopping around for the best discounts on rooms and such can save you the most money. Of course, going more than once a year and getting an AP, I always take those discounts off the room.

I think the Dining Plan would generally save you money over paying OOP for what you end up ordering while on the Dining Plan. Many folks use the Dining Plan as a safety valve to keep their costs in control, and relieve them of the stress about how much things cost.

I haven't done research into it, but I keep thinking the Dining Plan would affect me the other way. I'd spend all day worrying what I can and can't order.

When I go solo (like I'm doing next month), it doesn't worry me in the least. I eat most of my meals fast food - Doesn't cost much. I should probably look into it for my family trip in July, as when paying for 3 people., it does get costly for food.

Ack! I hate fast food. I'm sorry that I cannot get the dining plan for my upcoming trip. (It's not available for DVCers until April.)

Is the dining plan available for AP holders who book room only?

I love Disney's fast food. Love the burgers, fries, chicken fingers, turkey legs. I'm lucky - I'm cheap to please.

Well thanks for your advice. The thing is this is my husbands and kids first time going and we usually don't like opening up the door to the room and being right outside. Our kids a girl and boy 10 and 6 do not want to share a bed. We want them to have the best time possible and not worry about money or food to be able to order anything off the menu is the one plus for my husband because he is the type that if he really wants something and the price is to high he will not buy it even though i beg him to. He is really wanting the dining plan. Before i looked into packages i budgeted out about 750 dollars for food. Reguardless we are going and will have a blast i want this to be a great experience for them. Any more feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Dining plan is available as a MYW package add-on for those who book the hotel room's rack rate.

That puts me out then. Having the AP, I don't get the MYW package. Oh well - Burgers and fries for me will remain!!!

You can get dining with a AAA discounted hotel rate if you book through a AAA TA, NOT directly with Disney or an internet Disney TA. The December code discounts also allowed you to combine a discounted hotel room with dining. Those rates were almost as low as the AP rates.

There is a rumor that guests who book an AP discounted room will be allowed to purchase the dining plan. Disney will be allowing guests staying at DVC resort, with points, to purchase the dining plan. No reason why they couldn't extend that to AP holders.
