Hi y'all! I called and made our reservations for POR for our trip, and asked the reservationist to make a note on my reservation for non-smoking, mansion, and mention that it's our Honeymoon (getting married the Monday that we are there! :lovestruc ). Well, she kind of gave me a hard time about the notes stating that they wouldn't be looked at since the rooms are assigned when I check in. I always thought a room asigner placed you in a room a couple days ahead of time. She assured me that they have never assigned rooms until you are standing at checkin. If this is true, and I have gifts of a lifetime deliver a treat for my DHTB, what will they do with it, and how will it make it to the room before we get there? I'm thinking a present for him upon check in is not sounding like a good idea now. Any thoughts on this? Has the policy changed, or am I just remembering wrong? Thanks!

I don't know when they actually assign you a room. I thought it was upon check-in. But what I can tell you is I have had GoaL deliver presents to our room upon arrival. When I checked in the told me I had some items in waiting. And when we got to our room they were there. Well most of them I ordered quite a bit and they had to make 2 trips but we still got everything just fine. Have a Magical trip and Congratulations on the upcoming wedding there's no happier place to start it off.

Until you are checked in the room you were assigned can be given to someone else. I wouldn't arrange for your gift to be there when you arrive because someone else may be enjoying your surprise.

I've always heard the rooms are assigned three days before. Maybe they changed the policy. Could you call the Disney florist and ask them what they think? I think they would (hopefully!) know whether or not to put it in the room on the first night.

Regardless, best wishes on your upcoming wedding! :)

I make deliveries to WDW resorts. I am required to leave them with Guest Services/Check-in. Sometimes, they will tell me that a room has been assigned and they will send a runner to place the item in the guest room. Other times, they will say that the item will be given to the guest upon check-in. I am sure that it is the same for Gifts of a Lifetime. There is really no way to know for sure what will happen. I'm sure it depends on how busy they are and who arrives first needing a room. If they are not fully booked, they probably assign rooms before you get there. If they are fully booked, they assign as people arrive. This gets people into their rooms sooner based on the number of rooms ready.

When we checked into OKW on June 26th the CM brought my reservation up and said "I see you made some requests when you reserved. Non-smoking, top floor & near the Hospitality House". Then he showed me three buildings, one of which he said was "smoking optional". We X'd that one out. Another was ready (11 AM) but was second floor and the third was non-smoking & top floor and near the Miller Rd bus stop but there was a quiet pool right next door. We took that one, but it was not ready till 4 PM. So it seemed to me they are assigned at the desk.

The rooms are assigned 3-5 days before you arrive but are always subject to change when people arrive. There is a very good chance that the room you are assigned will go to someone else. :rolleyes1

*SOME* rooms are pre-blocked. Other rooms are assigned upon check-in.

Just because a room is pre-blocked does not mean that the guest will actually get that room. It's VERY possible that the room will get "re-assigned" to another guest.

DME guest rooms are usually assigned about a half hour prior to you getting to the resort. This is so that the room assigner can attempt to find a clean and available room for when you do arrive.

Thanks guys for your input. I haven't decided about getting a present yet, but at least now I won't expect to have my room assigned ahead of time!

Wow, when are room assignments made? I had always heard 3 days prior to arrival and then after reading this I learn they assign rooms at check-in. We are leaving in 14 days-POR for 3 nights and then a switch to the Poly for 7 nights. I wonder if I could stop by the Poly very early on the morning of our check in and make a particular request? Or would this be too late? I could even go over a few days before while we are at POR. The only room request listed on our reservation is for the Tokelau longhouse, but after looking at Tikiman's site I would love to get into one of those garden view rooms that offer a castle view. Any advice on how to request getting a particular room in our requested longhouse? And any advice on whether I should stop by a few days before our Poly check in date to make in person request? thanks! :cloud9:
