When are my AP tickets activated?

I am currently about to buy my first WDW AP's and have a question I know has probably been asked before (sorry). If I buy them today are they good for one year from today or one year from the first day I use them, which will be January 28, 2005? We are planning another trip for early January 2006 and I don't want to have them expire before then. Thank you for your help!

It depends where you buy them. The disney stores will give you a voucher to exchange at guest services.

We bought ours at Character Warehouse at Belz and they were fully activated passes

From there you will get vouchers that you will exchange for AP's when you are ready.

In this case the passes will activate on the first day that you use them. You will have to go to a guest services booth at the first park you go into, and have them activate the passes. The passes will then be good for one year from that date.

If you intend to renew them after the one year is up, your passes will automatically be active from the renewal date.

You get a slight discount if you renew before they expire but then you would still have the original expiration date.

Check the date printed on the back of your AP as soon as you get it. Once awhile a mistake is made and it might expire sooner than expected.

If you have had an AP before be sure you know whether you are renewing (expires a year from the previous pass' expiration) or paying full price (expires a year from when you get it) and know which you want.

If you purchase a AP ticket it will expire one year from the date of purchase. However, if you purchase an AP Certificate (which is what you would get if you bought it at TDS, online or over the phone) it will expire one year from the date that you change it into an actual ticket. Make sure when you buy that you find out whether you have purchased a ticket or a certificate.

If you order a renewal certificate when it is changed into an actual AP ticket it will use the expiration date of your original AP ticket. That is how you receive your renewal discount.
