I'm starting to watch but it seems too early...but I don't want to miss them before they get too high! We can fly out of Toronto or Buffalo (what we usually do). We need a flight Friday March 7 to Orlando, coming back Sunday March 16...

Depends who you want to fly with. Major airlines have their windows for booking open that far already. But, if you are flying with JetBlue or Southwest, then you are going to have to wait at least another month or so.

JetBlue is open through Feb 12. You will proably have to wait at least another month or so. Southwest, on the other hand, is only open until Jan 5th, and opening the next block on July 1st (which will go through part of Feb).

Air transat (the Canadian company), has theirs open already.

We booked our Edmonton to Orlando flights on United a month ago. The prices have climbed steadily ever since. :)

We're on the same cruise. :wave2: Our closest airport is Ottawa, and the best I've seen from there is around $500/person (x4) for indirect flights. We can only get direct flights to/from Orlando from Ottawa a couple of days a week, and they're not the days I want to fly on.

I'm pretty sure I can do considerably better on Jet Blue out of Syracuse. It's a 3.5 hour drive for us, but from there we can fly direct, so overall travel time doesn't change much. My concern is that Jet Blue will release their next block of flights through to mid-March, which would cover our departure date but not the return. If that happens I'll have to decide whether to book the outgoing flights immediately (bit of a risk, since it more-or-less forces us to fly back to Syracuse no matter the price - our car would be there), or wait until the return dates are available to book the round-trip. If the outbound prices are good I'll probably opt for the former and take a chance on the return; our return dates are at least somewhat flexible, but our departure date really is not.

Anyway, just wanted to say that you're not alone. Waiting around makes me nervous, especially for March Break flights. Good luck!

rouge flights YYZ-MCO start Jan 2014 ( YUL in Feb I believe), and current prices are averaging $200CAD/pp one way all in....that's pretty decent for this route.

For those going outta the YYZ area, my bet is this will be the best fare for a while.

If you're willing to take the rouge plunge that is!

I think flights are opening up until March 7 on SouthWest out of Buffalo as of July 22nd. You would just have to wait to book your return flight.

Where did you see those rates? When I did a search for Rouge it was $695 PP!

Hmmm, I suppose it will depend on month/day of week you are looking at. We're going Thursday - Wednesday in January (marathon weekend), which isn't typically peak demand, so that means fares are a bit lower.

Kayak.com is a great search site for airfares (even has an iPad app).

Good luck!

I'm from Ottawa as well and have always flown out of Ottawa. We've flown to Hawaii,Ireland and Orlando especially many times and have never paid more than 370 pp return and usually less. We've been there in Jan,feb.may,Aug.sept,. oct and November. In my experience ,I find the best time for prices is at the 3 to 4 month mark.I check everyday from that point on with expedia and go from there.
Recently ,I talked to a CSR at United and asked why the Expedia price was cheaper than theirs for the same flight, and answered my own question;Expedia buys blocks of seats and sells them at whatever they want to.
Good Luck in your search, but IMO,it's way to early to book, but it doesn't hurt to look.
