When are incentives offered?

DH and I just toured the sales center at SSR last week. Got all the info on prices for BLT, AKV and SSR, with the various discounts of $5-15 dollars off per point. But nothing was mentioned about free one time use 'bonus points' or matching points, or the fact you can buy into AKL on a 100 point contract instead of the 160. Are these not offered to everyone? Are they offered down the line if you turned them down at first?

We truly enjoyed seeing all the models and are considering DVC to see if its worth it to our family. Having met with the salesman now, what should we expect as far as follow-up?

Also, did I read somewhere that if we stay onsite for a vacation, we can apply the amount paid for the room towards the DVC price?

Thanks for any info!

Incentives are always offered, some are just better than others. We had papers drawn up to purchase twice last year at BLT. We got cold feet and backed out. I was afraid that if we did not do it then there would never be aas good a deal, etc. We now are purchasing at AKV(100 pts) I am glad that we backed out the first two times, as I feel much better about it this time than before.
I suggest you take your time, research and think about it for a bit before jumping in. Part of the reason we are doing it now is the 100 pt minimum at AKV. Usually it is 160 points, yes this is a special incentive. I was nervous about spending that much money. I also feel like a 100 point contract will sell easier than a 160 point if I do choose to sell later on.
Read these boards, there is a LOT of great info on here. Also, look at the resale listings, they can be a great deal. I chose to do AKV direct because they are giving me 2009 pts and 2010 so the price is comparable to resale, but every situation is different. Feel free to PM me if you want any more info. Good luck:goodvibes

I have been combing the DVC boards for over a year and I have never heard of an incentive of staying and applying the price you paid to your contract. That would be an awesome incentive and I can say I think I may have heard another Dis'er mention that way back when they use to offer it, but it has not been offered in the past year.

I would flat out ask your Guide if they are offering 2009 or developer's points when purchasing now. Sometimes I think guides try to get you to purchase without giving you all incentives out there.

Good Luck.

Years ago, DVC did allow the price of a hotel stay to be used toward a purchase, but I believe it ended in the late 90's.

As far as incentives, there are sometimes better incentives offered on a cruise, during a special event/webcast, and even for those who purchase in person when at the world. However, as far as I know, those incentives apply to everyone who qualifies for them. If you are onsite and they are offering things to onsite guests, then you should qualify.

Right now, the only incentives are dollars off (and maybe AP's--not sure). I think that when the guides sell DVC, they tell new buyers that they are getting extra set of points when in fact, all they are getting are current UY points.

So, if you buy AKV today in January 2010 with a June UY, you will be given 2009 points. The reason is because we are still in the June 2009 UY. But, the way that it is sold makes it appear that you are getting something extra.

Now, last year, they were also giving matching developer points, on top of current UY points. But, I don't believe those have been offered since June.

I think that the 100 point buy in for AKV (and I believe you can get it for SSR too, but not BLT or VGC) is something relatively new (within the last year) but all guides should be aware of it and why some share that info and not others is anyone's guess.

Incentives are based upon sales volume and objectives. When sales don't meet objectives, incentives increase. They also rotate incentives to increase the wow factor and remove them so they can say that the incentives won't last forever. This causes the fence sitters to commit.

You will also find that incentives vary depending on which DVD group you are buying from. I asked DVD Management about that policy a couple of years ago and I could tell that not all agreed with it, but they have no choice.
