Wheeled Backpacks, Coolers and SUITCASES! Oh My!

The medical supplies could be kept in another location a suitcase is not the only option.

I would hope Disney had "charity" lockers for this....

Welcome back Robin! We saw a few too, but thought they were hauling extra blankets and space heaters! LOL! Glad you avoided injury, ITA, not the right items to have in the parks that week(s),

Pam

why on earth do people need them? I carry everything that I need in my waist bag, and that is only a small $9 one from Sea World (originally to put my specs in when we went on Kraken!) I wouldn't have thought that they would have allowed them in the parks!

I have to keep medical supplies in the Park - I drop them off at First Aid in the morning & access them whenever neccessary. I wouldn't dream of lugging that crap around unless it was something I wouldn't be able to wait for the 5 minutes it take me to get to First Aid. (Which may have been the case in the above referenced situation, I don't know)

Just wanted to let people know that FA is an excellant resource if you have any special medical needs.

That just breaks my heart to hear about the man who fell hard. People these days seem to be more heartless than ever. I'm recovering from a nasty fall in October. I tried to catch myself and ended up snapping a few fingers in two at their bases and dislocating another. I can't imagine something like that happening at Disney (what a way to ruin a vacation). I hope they crack down on these wheelie suitcases before we go in April.

I was just online researching a compact backpack to carry all of our things and wondering what a pain it would probably be to ride with. I would certainly think that these would be a pain.

Well, I will probably get flamed for this, but I was one of the people with a small rolling backpack the week before Christmas this year. With 5 of us, and colder weather, we had sweatshirts, jackets and hats and gloves in ours as well as autograph books and the like. It would be 40's to 50 in the morning, then upper 60's to 70's in the afternoon and then back to the lower 50's or upper 40's at night. We didn't carry in meals or anything like that. We bought all of our meals in the parks. When it got busy or more crowded I usually pushed it in front of me so as not to bother anyone else. I'm sorry I have never heard anything about them not being allowed in the parks, and no one ever said anything to us about it(security, CMs, etc.).

I know that there are some people that are not as considerate as me with stuff in the parks(strollers, suitcases, smoking, stopping right in the middle of the walkway, cell phones, etc.), but we tried to not be an inconvenience to anyone else. And we found lots of opportunities to talk to our kids about what not to do and how not to behave. I guess we'll leave it home next time so as not to cause anyone any trouble.

Just a question DG - why didn't you just put that stuff in a locker? Wasn't it a pain hauling the suitcase on the rides?

No, it wasn't a pain at all. It just sat at my feet. The reason we didn't use a locker is that some are too small for all of our stuff and we had it with us when we needed to put it on or take it off. That way we weren't having to trek all the way across the park we were in a couple extra times each day. If it wasn't colder, and it was nice a couple of days, we didn't take it with us.

I'm REALLY trying hard not to flame you, believe me, but that is the kind of attitude those people who carry those bags have. It might inconvinence them just a teeny tiny bit to obey the park rules and be considerate of other park patrons, so they choose not to. No one else seemed to have a problem with renting two lockers, or taking a quick trip to the car when it got cold, or tying their jacket around their waist - but then others decide they are too good for that, and refuse to.

To me, it's a matter of respect. I have more respect for the rules and for other people than to put my needs always first. Some of the rules I don't like, but I respect them and understand the necessity for them. ESPECIALLY when it truly is a danger, which those bags are.

Just my honest thoughts.

People made do without those wheeled bags just fine before they came around, medical supplies can be kept in the clinic, and lockers are available and truly not that expensive. Besides that, many people leave the parks at various times and can easily grab things they need then.

I can't think of one valid reason why someone should be lugging that much junk with them. I can't imagine trying to navigate through the crowds over the holidays with those things - how obnoxious. I hope Disney makes great efforts to put a stop to this one, adn escort people out of the parks that are wheeling them around.

WOW!! I really don't think that I deserved that. As I stated, I didn't realize that they were against the rules and no one said anything to us about it. We were not just thinking of ourselves first, and having smaller children, trekking from the American Pavilion in WS to the entrance of EPCOT to grab something from a locker is a big deal. The only reason that I posted was to let people know that there are some people that carried other things in them besides picnic lunches and unnecessary stuff.

Guess from now on I'll just read the posts and keep my thoughts and assistance to myself. Sorry for any trouble my little backpack may have caused anyone.

domestic goddess, I read your post and saw that you weren't aware that you couldn't bring a rolling bag. And if no one said anything, why would you think it was a problem? Obviously some people here just read what they wanted to read.

Having to carry a lot of stuff for weather &/or small kids is why a lot of people are reluctant to give up strollers!! The parks are very large and it is much easier to keep things with you. We split things into 2 bags to keep it more managable.

Domestic Goddess. I too dislike the wheeled bags but from your post I see that you are a nice and courteous person and I just wanted to thank you for all that you did to be courteous to those around you. It is all the other people who were not as nice who we should be complaining about. It is just my opinion but if someone does not know they cannot bring it in and WDW staff do nothing to inform you even when you go through a WDW inspection then I am just glad that some people are considerate of others.

I did mean to mention that you did say you didn't understand the rules, and I do believe you and can totally see how that happened - I think alot of people dont look them up themselves, and assume they will be stopped if something is wrong. I apologize, I did intend to mention that wasn't directed towards you - just in general.

But I do think alot of people ignore the rules because it doesnt suit them, and was just speaking in general. But I did word it towards you, and didn't intend to. You obviously come across as a nice person who was offering your own exp, I hope you don't get scared away off from offering your exps again. I am surprised you posted, I would be scared to post the same thing on these boards! =)

I do hold to my belief that the attitude about it being too far to walk, or too expensive to rent a locker, etc is disrespectful to those that trek the park for the sake of others. To me, that's not a valid excuse (once you know the rules, or think about the dangers of dragging it around, and still opt to bring it due to laziness - which I know you didn't do, because you didn't think about those other things prior) Crowd size just has to be taken into account when doing something like that, esp since those ARE dangerous.

I do apologize for some of my wording, I honestly have never flamed anyone on here - it's also so hard to get a sense of emotion in type. =)

I do think Disney will see the problem, esp since there were injuries involved, and will be more verbal in enforcing their policy on this.

I have to agree those suitcases are quite annoying. I have two dd's(4&5) we even stop taking the stroller because it became such a pain. We now give piggy back rides. In our eyes it's an even trade. I hate carrying, lugging, pulling anything. We even have water bottle with a velcro strap. We attach them to our belt loop. Unfortunately Dh is usually the only one with belt loops. Enough said, you get the point.

I complained about this in a different forum here on the Dis Boards back in August! I nearly killed myself on one at the park! I don't understand why anyone would want to drag a clunky thing all over the park.
