My family, boyfriend, and his family leave in 2 weeks for Disneyland, and my boyfriend had emergency abdominal surgery this past Saturday night. He is clear to go to Disneyland, but unable to go on any fast rides. He will be in the hospital through this weekend and isn't realeased to go back to work until the beginning of November (he is a paramedic = lots of lifting), so we know he will not be up to walking all day in the parks. We would like to rent a wheelchair from Disneyland so he can sit when he needs to, and don't worry, we won't abuse the shorter line priviledge (but considering that he can't go on any fast rides, we won't have too many horribly long lines to deal with in the first place)!!!

So, I have a few questions about renting wheelchairs:
1. Do we need a doctor's note? His condition isn't obvious unless he lifts his shirt to reveal the 7-8 inch long incision on his stomach. :scared1:
2. How much does it cost per day?
3. Is it possible to take the wheelchair back to the hotel? We are staying at the GCH.

Thank you all in advanced for the information!!! :)

So sorry to hear about your boyfriend's surgery - I hope he is feeling better every day!

You do not need a doctor's note to rent a wheelchair or an ECV. The rental area is located just inside each park where the stroller rentals are. Last I heard, wheelchairs were $10/day with a $20 deposit (refunded when the chair is returned). You can park hop with the wheelchair, but you can't take it beyond the security perimeter, so you wouldn't be able to use it to go to/from the GCH. I think that the hotels have a small supply of chairs that are available for guest use - I would suggest that you call the GCH and ask about that. You can also rent a wheelchair from an off-site company, and that one would be yours to use wherever you want.

As far as getting a Guest Assistance Card - go to City Hall when you arrive and they should be able to give you information on how to access the various attractions with a wheelchair, and a card (if you even need one) that will give you any special access you might need.

Hope that helps - have a good trip!

When I was having back problems over the Summer, we rented an ECV at the park each day. At the end of the day, they loaned us a wheelchair to take me back and forth to the Disneyland Hotel, so it is possible. Just ask at the rental area.
