I am confined to a wheelchair and wanted to know if anyone had experience with this restaurant and wheelchair users. It is high on the list of places that my niece wants to eat at but I don't want to be in the way. I guess I would also be interested in any other suggestions for eating for wheelchair users.

Akershus has tables that accommodate Guests traveling in wheelchairs. You can tell them when you check in that day but my BF used to be a server there and says that you can also mention it when you make your ADR and they will note it so you can be seated where you will be comfortable. I am sure it's similar to this at most restaurants on property.

You might also want to check over on the DIS-abilities board...they could probably offer good suggestions. The only places we ever had trouble on property was at the Crystal Palace....it was just really crowded and very little space between tables, even those for wheelchairs and Beaches and Cream...again just a space issue...some places that worked really well with the WC were Spoodles, Rose and Crown, Pepper Market, Concourse Steak House and O'Hana's. I am sure any of them would gladly accomodate you, but the busier character meals may be a little cramped.

I've done Akershus many times before it became a character meal and once for breakfast since then. I've never had any problems there. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants.

We've done Askerhus also with DD in a wheelchair and did not have any problems.
We've done the Crystal Palace many times and have not had any problem with getting a table where her wheelchair fit and was not in the way. She does not come to the buffet with us - DH or I get her food for her. Someone going to and from the buffet in a wheelchair might have a very different opinion than we do.

We always mention the wheelchair when we make our ADR and again when we check in at the restaurant. We have had few problems and CMs were very good about trying to put things the way we needed if we did see a problem.
