Wheelchair transfers from ECV for a larger person?

I see that some of the rides make you transfer to a wheelchair from an ECV.

I have big hips and a standard wheelchair will not work for that.

I can get into the ride vehicles. I don't need a wheelchair ON the ride or a special ride vehicle that holds a wheelchair. But, I need to take the ECV to the ride car.

Are there rides where I have to leave the ECV outside and transfer to one of Disney's small wheelchairs to go in or stand on my own?

I can walk, I can stand for a few minutes, I can get in and out of the rides, but I have a Heel injury and can't stand on it for very long without enormous pain.

For example, leaving the ECV outside for small world would probably be ok and I could wait in line and lean on the bars, but if I have to leave the ECV outside at Pirates, I don't think I can walk that far in line, especially if I am standing in place. Can I take the ECV into Pirates or do I have to transfer to the wheelchair outside?

Hi! I know that there are better answers out there, but I can tell you from experience that there is another entrance to pirates that takes you with a CM out back (behind a gate where it is a straight and shorter path to the ride) where you leave the ECV with a CM and then u walk to the boat. They have the larger sized wheelchairs at some locations, but my mind is fuzzy on those 2 rides. I wish that I could remember more than that. Most rides, you pull up to the ride, and hop into the attraction. Sometimes a moving target is SO hard for me, but in some, they can slow it down a bit (haunted mansion). I am a Pooh sized person, and regular wheelchairs pinch me, so I understand your concern. I just wish that I had a better answer.

Most rides; including IASM, you can take the ECV pretty much all but a few steps from the boat. (at IASM, you go down the exit ramp, but it is marked). The only exception to this that I can think of is POTC, where you exit on a seperate level in a seperate building from where you went in, which is why you can't bring the ECV through the ride queue. Although what the pp said does happen sometimes, we have not always found that to be the case, and they should have a w/c at the entrance to the queue you can use.

thank you so much for all of the advice.

After 35 trips, the ECV suddenly makes the trip all new...and slightly scarey.

Off hand, POTC and Star Tours are the only 2 rides that I ride where I have to transfer to a WC and when we were there over Labor Day weekend, they had one at each of those locations, where they haven't had previously. I was thrilled, because we usually have to wait for a CM to go get one so I can ride.

But my concern is if the wheelchairs for people with larger hips are available. A small wheelchair won't work for me. If need be, I will walk and stand in line, but I will probably only be able to do it if the line is less than a 10 minute wait. Still can't put the weight on my heel for any real length of time.
Worse comes to worse, I will skip the rides. I've been there a lot and plan on going back again. POTC is my favorite though (but I liked it better before Jack was added...I'm nostalgic).

You also have to transfer to a wheelchair at Pooh's ride.

Yes, they have WC for large guests at the rides where you must transfer, but most places you ride your ECV right up to where you get on. My main issue is standing, that is why I use an ECV and I have to transfer to a large WC at some attractions. If one isn't avail, my husband just asks a CM to go get one. I am a VERY large woman and can't use a standard WC.

THAT answers my question!
Thank you!

So another thing is on my mind about the ECV now (will the questions ever end?..I feel like a Disney newbie). I have rented a heavy duty scooter but not the extended battery heavy duty. Is it going to be dying on me every day?

I plan on plugging it in every night. We are only doing DHS one day and MK for the halloween party. The rest will just be some resort touring or DTD, minimal stuff. Walker said that they will include a small size battery pack that can travel with the scooter and I can plug it in anytime. We don't 'commando' tour either. We are pretty leisurely even when I'm walking.

Will this be a problem?
This is a sudden extra expense to begin with. I really didn't want to pay 20% more for the same scooter (they said it's exactly the same) that just has a better battery.

I sent you a PM, but no you won't have a problem with the regular HD ECV. I have always been very happy with Walker and IF you do have a problem call them right away, they will take care of it quickly.
