Wheelchair taxi question?

I have a quick question about the wheelchair accessible taxis. We have a Garden Grill PPO ADR at Epcot. We will be staying at the Poly and the monorail doesn't start running until 8. I have been seeing mixed reports about an Epcot bus being available. My mom will be on an ECV for our trip. She is waiting on a major foot surgery scheduled for August and can not walk very much/far. Can she put her ECV in an accessible taxi to take to Epcot that morning? Her rental model is not one that folds. It would have to be disassembled and she doesn't really want to try this. Thanks so much for all your help!

You can schedule a taxi in advance. When scheduling, just make sure you mention the ECV and that you will need a taxi that can accommodate it. An appropriate one should be sent.

I use a wheelchair and we just did this back in March when we had to get to AK early for a tour. We called one of the cab companies listed in the folder you get when you check in the night before and made all the arrangements.

Thanks so much! It's nice to hear someone who has done this. My mom is saying she thinks she can go without her ECV that one morning an just take a regular cab, but I am so scared. Her doctor has basically told her one wrong move and she will tear her tendon and have to have that repaired on top of her reconstruction surgery that is scheduled. I just really don't want her to not use her ECV.

Could you use a fold up wheelchair that morning?

I have thought about this as well. We don't have a wheelchair as mom is fine to do what walking she needs at home. She just doesn't need to do Disney walking. I had thought about renting a regular chair when we got to the park just for the morning. She says she will be fine to walk to breakfast at Garden Grill, let us ride Soarin, then we can catch the monorail back to the Poly to get her ECV for the rest of the day. (We have an AP and go often, so the lost park time doesn't bother us. We have FP for a little later).

That's a greater distance than she thinks.
We are pass holders and my mom has been numerous times. She has had this injury for
a year but keeps putting her surgery off (I actually had to go with her to the doctor and force her to schedule it). She promises she walks that far when she goes shopping at our local outdoor mall, etc. and she is fine. If I can't get a taxi for her ECV she is determined to go without it and won't let me cancel the breakfast. I guess I just have to trust her! I tried to talk her out of it, but it was a no go, lol! You can't tell those mothers anything!

If she understands the distance and has walked it many times, and she is a capable adult, I would trust her judgement.

My own experience speaking here, so please don't take this to mean that I think my situation parallels your mother's! Just a little insight as to why she's being stubborn. As a disabled person it can be insanely frustrating when my family decides they know better than I do about the body that I live in and what I can and can't do. I understand the worry and that it comes from a place of caring, but from my point of view I'm being told that I don't know what's best for me and that I shouldn't be permitted to make decisions about my own life because I won't choose correctly. Living with the physical issues is already difficult without being treated like a child.

I hope your trip is magical. Don't be too hard on a stubborn mother!
