My Mom will be traveling to WDW with us this Oct and she is an amputee (among other major health issues) who just got a new prosthetic and is walking for the first time in a couple years. She can't go far right now but she's sure she'll be in full walking mode by Oct. I told her not to worry about it, there is a LOT of walking to be done and we will make sure she has a wheelchair or scooter so she can save walking for times when the WC can't go with us (or back in the room).

Now here is my dilemma. Her personal WC is pretty beat up and it really doesn't have to come with us. There will be WC's available everywhere we go.

Do I:
1. Rent a WC or scooter for the duration of the trip from an outside company and take it everywhere we go?
2. Just rent a WC or scooter at the parks?
3. Bring her WC for use at the resort and then get a scooter at the parks?

I'm thinking that a WC would be good for use in the room and a scooter needed in the parks. What's the best way to get the best of both worlds?

I've read the sticky up top and it seems that the parks have a limited # of scooters so renting one from an outside source would be needed if we did that. I know it can go on buses, but what about if we rent a car? And how well will it fit in the room? (2 bdrm at SSR).

AAGH! Does any of this make sense? Anyone have to deal with this before? Advice/recommendations please!

It seems to me like option 3 would be your best bet. This is because I imagine that trying to get an ECV in and out of a rental car would be a big pain. Plus, I've never heard of anyone not being able to get an ECV in a park, but you might want to do more research on that. I have no idea what the rooms at SSR are like, but you'll definitely want to request an accessible room. Hope that helps!

my suggestion to you is to rent an ecv from an outside company. In March we rented one for my partner from a company called scooterama. They were so great.. it was there waiting when we arrived and they picked it up after our departure from pop century. The price was great but the best part is we didn't have to wait in lines at each park each day and rent one from wdw. She took it on the busses and the battery lasted all day long with no problem.
good luck to you and your mom
