Wheelchair Rentals & DVC Resort Delivery

And they're generally in pretty bad condition. Not ons you'd want to push around a park all day.

Thank you, Dean.

I had seen this on the WDW website, but was uncertain of the extent of use. I was not sure if the complementary use was limited to the resort grounds or for the full length of stay throughout WDW.

An $8-9.50 per day rental fee seems very reasonable and I appreciate knowing that the wheelchair is both guaranteed and correct in size.

Jim
They do have both sizes but as I stated, no guarantees. It's also possible to pick one up at a different resort than you are staying at. It seems OKW has been the main place we needed them and it was very easy with lots of choices every time. You can take them to the parks, DD, etc; I'm not aware they restrict them. I suppose you could even take them to Universal or Sea World but that could get a little weird.

Laurie, may I ask why you would not recommend Buena Vista? When reviewing photos online, their wheelchair was the only one to have a cushioned seat.

Thanks,
Jim

we booked a scooter rental from them online, and it suddenly stopped working in EPCOT (we had just gotten it that morning - battery was charged). my brother had to push the scooter from FW, while helping my dad walk, all the way back to the BW.
i thought "ah well, things break down, stuff happens, no biggie"....but it was the their unexpected surliness that was disturbing.
when they answered the phone with "hello", i asked if this was BV rentals, and the man responded, "yeah, what do you want?!"
explained that the scooter had stopped working, and he said, "what do you want me to do about it?!" i asked if we could get another, and he said that they were closing (this was about 3pm friday). asked if we could come there and he said, "i'm going home". asked if we could trade it out for one at the surrey bike like location (where BV rentals had others), and he said "no. goodbye" and hung up the phone. i called back, same man answered phone "what?!" and when i said we must have gotten disconnected, he said, "you probably broke something" and hung up - no one picked up when we tried calling back. my brother drove to their location & picked up another the next day - that one was dirty (we cleaned it off), ripped seat, had non-working lights, and various other minor problems....it moved & braked fairly well however, so we just continued with our vacation (it's very difficult to get me out of happy, carefree vacation mode ;)).
apple was the polar opposite - scooters were clean, fully functional, and their CS was more like owners' locker - outstanding :thumbsup2 we needed 2 scooters & the gentleman at apple was wonderful, even calling to see if everything was okay.
especially as these 2 companies have comparable prices, i prefer dealing with pleasant people and a well maintained product :)

We have discussed transportation and my mom will be able to get on and off the buses and monorails. Based on what I have observed, I believe it will be easier for me to fold and lift a wheelchair on rather than dealing with kneeling buses and ramps.

Jim

I'd recommend, on ramped buses, going ahead and loading her in the chair via the ramp, then folding and transferring her to a seat once on board. My Mom stayed in the chair while on board the bus and was strapped in securely...safe for a manual wheelchair, not a scooter, as the point of gravity is lower using a W/C, they don't tip as easy.

I'd also recommend getting a cloth bag and stitching some handle loops on the side of the bag prior to your trip. The new handles will loop over the wheelchair push handles. That way you won't be trying to carry stuff as well as push. Also, if your Mom uses a cane while transferring out of the chair, I'd recommend a folding cane that can fit into that bag.
